Have you ever felt, you were deeply overqualified for something? Sure, it's part of the job so you do what you have to do, and yet there is a part of you....a big part that looks down from your minds eye on the scenario, and it can't help but say..."Why are we doing this? Does anyone have a brain, has the world gone mad?" Though your brain is screaming this at you, and it is nearly impossible to get it to stop however, you continue doing the very thing that you know is not worth doing, or that you already know how to do. Why? Maybe its a sense of duty and loyalty, you have to do it because that's what one does. Others, it is even more simple, a paycheck. Money can make one do almost anything. All fair, and yet there is another reason. You are doing it because you simply could not come up with a reason quick enough, that you didn't need to do it. This was Asahi Yagami's exact train of thought, so much so he was just barely listening as the gate guard stood at the front of the hall giving lectures. So droll.
In his rush to the top it turned out that Asahi had skipped a couple steps. One of which being the shinobi academy, though he had thankfully been given a free pass on that one. His training and demonstrations during the Sake fest lending to that. His time as a samurai he felt had trained him much better than what he saw from the children, and he knew deep down he would have never paid attention to any of that anyway. The second task he had not ever been officially instructed on, was that of how to perform gate duty. Though it was unlikely he would land such a job at this juncture in his career, it was still one that they felt he should have the basic understanding of. This is where he would have argued and gotten out of it, but....he'd been put in his place by cold hard logic. His job was mostly economic and civil industry and development. The guards often let visitors through that registered, and this could include merchants and businesses, who also had said documentation. Should he not know exactly what to look for and what that documentation entailed? The answer was of course, yes....to his great annoyance.
So, at the ungodly early hour of 9 in the morning he found himself in one of the guard houses listening to a lecture on the documents and how to fill them out. Mostly it was a simple process. Meet the person, question the person, fill out the documents, let the person in, if they do bad things kick the person out. Simple, clear concise. So why was it taking 2 hours to go through all of that. He could have completed this lecture in half the time and already been off to second breakfast. Alas it was not meant to be it would seem.
Finally the lecture had concluded and they were allowed to head off for a patrol. He had convinced the woman he was shadowing to grab one of the horses so they could do a simple patrol around the village on horse back. It would be a longer patrol than most of the other people he had been sitting in class with, but it would also seek to meet all the hours he needed to complete in one sitting. With the amount of paperwork that was already starting to pile up back in his office, this had quickly become the more important thing. They rode and chatted awhile, the subject of the simple patrolling he was supposed to know only occupying a very short amount of time. Soon they communed over the village, how long she had lived there, and her own thoughts on what needed improved. Asahi took notes, and allowed his natural charisma to be his default stance. It couldn't hurt to get to know more people within the village, and gain their ideas as well. He couldn't say he saw this job as his entire future life, but.....it wasn't so bad for what he could see. So riding, just before dusk began they raced, Princess Ivy Bluemoon breathing heavy and head held proudly up at her win, she signed his form, and one more duty was removed from his plate.
