No Nonsense Training [Training][IO]
Tue May 17, 2022 6:37 am
It was Saturn's first visit to the Advanced Training Facility. Up until recently, he had not even heard of the place. It was just the other day when he had received a letter with a stipend 12,000 ryo with the message 'Get Stronger' written on it and on the back of this very letter, written in a minuscule font, were the coordinates of this particular training facility. Looking around him as he passed various sections of the compound - bearing witness to various moving targets and obstacle courses, and advanced machinery that seemed to fulfil highly specialized objectives, he wandered about until he found an area that was completely void of any equipment.
Saturn had done a little bit of reading, and he was investigating the various methods that he could employ to augment his Mind Body Switch Technique. It was his signature technique, and the trademark skill of the Yamanaka clan of whom the young man was not even aware. Just the other day, Saturn transferred his mind into the body of a vulture to retrieve a stolen purse from its nest. The extremely vivid senses of the vulture - visions of rays of light beyond the ultraviolet spectrum, coupled with the influx of hormonal influences, had startled Saturn to the point where he almost scavenged his own immobilised body with the instincts of his new host. After conquering that particular fatal urge, Saturn proceeded to encounter a twenty foot python and struggled to control and contort the body of the vulture to engage in combat. Instead, he aborted the body in the nick of time and was saved from being the Python's dinner by mere seconds.
Saturn's hypothesis following the events of that day was that he should focus on the sensory specialty. His theory was that his understanding of the sensory pathways would assist him in grasping the various different mutations of reality perceived by the animal and human hosts he would possess with his technique. Knowledge and a firm grasp on the sensory alterations that he would experience with the use of this technique should allow him to better control the bodies that he was yet to possess. Perhaps he needed a mentor...

Yagi Raiten'nō was training inside Kumogakure’s Advanced training Facility today, given permission to practice his techniques and show his growth with the other villagers of the hidden village…he was there to see the capabilities of the present warriors…it would give the Raijin a timetable in which to prepare the new era of Raiten'nō shinobi. As a nobleman he was given a bit of preferential treatment and, but he still chose an open room on the bottom floor of the facility. It was so that he could come and go as he pleased while also making sure that he could help out with those that needed a hand…all of which he would look at with a discerning eye.
Today he was dressed in traditional training gear; which was more or less a form fitting suit that he could move around easily in. Right now he was observing and practicing with ranged targets and kunai. He was showing he was at least adept enough to disable an opponent by hitting areas that would be weak or by outright landing a lethal blow to whatever training dummy that was in front of him. He was in his element and he was not even using much force as it were. Muscle memory and coupled with teachings learned at the Raiten'nō compound. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a familiar face…Saturn. He turned to look at the ostrich fighter himself and waved at him.
“Well, not much luck out in the fields eh? What brings you around here my friend? Anything that I might be able to help out with?” Yagi asked as he was walking towards his friend.

"Raitenn'o! Hey!" Yagi's triplet of well thought of questions was initially met with a simple greeting and a blank stare from a man visibly distracted by his own thoughts. He had a habit of calling people by their last names although he was never sure about his own. Saturn was the type of shinobi to always have a plan before taking action, regardless of the task at hand. This inherently made it harder for Saturn to wrap his mind around training the Sensory specialty. He had to think about his senses instead of thinking about a course of action and this had left his mind in a sort of buffering state. "Oh, nah. My training today can't be done in the fields." Saturn proclaimed, "I heard there's something about this place that makes shinobi progress faster when they train here. After all, we're all trying to strengthen ourselves besides our compatriots, are we not?" He smirked, talking slowly while quoting Yagi's toast from an earlier encounter - slightly mocking his choice of words but now also maintaining a warm smile that communicates that it's all in good fun. His expression further reinstated the fact because he was clearly not joking about strengthening himself.
Saturn wore his usual gear - a white hoodie, a knit cap and pants with the same starry pattern on them, and today he wore cowboy boots with spurs on the back. Saturn held his arms out in front of him - 90 degrees to the left away from his friend - and formed the shape of a heart with his fingers to form the unique signature hand seal of the Yamanaka clan. "Say, Raiten'no-san, would you happen to know a thing of two about Sensory jutsu? I'm working on a technique that could be improved, but I haven't the faintest idea.."

Hearing that the training that needed to be done this day was not to be done in the fields, made Yagi smile as he made note of the lax training gear that Saturn wore. He was beginning to think that it was most likely just his own clan that chose to dress the way that they did to keep up appearances rather than to actually mean something. Saturn then responded further as he asked about the training facility. Yagi was a little more familiar with this so he was more than happy to oblige the inquiry. “This place is designed so that the maximum amount of chakra in the air remains constant and that one can absorb the chakra in various ways. This will make us all stronger in the long run and it will eventually lead us to becoming the leading village that will oversee the others with our superiority and unity.” He said as he stretched for a moment as he could tell that Saturn was itching to ask a question. Finally he was able to ask, and he gave a chuckle as he was inquired about maybe being able to teach sensory techniques. Yagi nodded as he stood up straight. “Close your eyes, begin feeling through the chakra in your body, the objective of sensory chakra is to reveal what may be hidden to you. There are a set of stones on the second floor behind a thicker wall than what is around here on the first floor. You must reach out and try to try to observe one of the stones, once you do tell me which one you saw, if you are correct then congratulations, you have unlocked and taken your first step into using sensory as a main point in your chakra usage.” He said with a smile as he already reached out with his chakra to see the rock, the shape and waited for Saturn to do his part.

Saturn squinted his eyes and raised his brow trying to follow along. He was by no means dim-witted - yet he was not exactly a genius either. He buffered for a moment trying to comprehend the information that he was just given. He was not book smart, but he had a knack for learning things practically. In his racing mind, he was a step behind Yagi as he explained the concept - as he was trying to deduce implications of the facts presented to him word by word on the go.
Is there suppressive force that diminishes the power of shinobi training in this facility?
Does saturation of chakra in the air act as a stressor on a shinobi's own chakra system to train him akin to resistance training used to train muscles by lifting weights?
Does that perhaps mean everyone in here has equal power if we're measuring only by the potency of the chakra available to them?
Does that mean that, the power of all shinobi in Kumogakure would some day be equalized if they all used the facility?
Is that optimal?
He pondered in his mind, his finger on his lip and his brows slanted as his gaze darted upwards and to the left. If he had been drinking, he would have almost certainly opened his mouth to press Yagi for more information on the inner workings of the facility that they were in, to get an answer for each and every one of his little questions. Instead, the sober shinobi chose to be cautious in his use of his friend's time.
“Close your eyes...... There are a set of stones on the second floor ... tell me which one you saw ......”
Almost immediately, Saturn closed his own eyes and followed Yagi's words along, searching for his cue, a way forward from within. A stone? How am I supposed to find a stone? Maybe I could possess a fly and make my way up there.. but Yagi would know I'm cheating when I collapse.. He strained in his mind, looking inwards and out with his eyes closed. His train of thought had already begun to deviate, although he wilfully brought it back every time. He wondered if there was a space in the world for shinobi who were born blind or had their sight taken away.
Perhaps scratching the surface, Saturn peered into the flow of chakra in his body and around him. The facility did seem to have an abnormal flow of chakra, with a constant rate that until he recognized, he was not able to detect due to the lack of variance. Or so it seemed after he made his interpretation of the information Yagi had told him. As he traversed within, in an abrupt yet subtle shift, his perception exited his own body and now he was perceiving the world around him purely in his mind using trace information from the chakra around him. Or so it seemed to him. Yet, he followed his instincts, guiding his perception directly upwards, through the wall above him as though it was a membrane that allowed his senses to selectively permeate by osmosis. Above, he peered behind a thick cement wall to see three stones arranged in a triangular formation - one was cylindrical, the other conical, and the third rectangular. Were these visions real, or a manifestation of his own imagination? Wait.. whose imagination....?
After a long and dragged out contemplation, Saturn snapped out of his trance. Looking a little dazed, he raised his brow at Yagi, it was the same solemn stare from the night at the bar and yet it was more warm and friendly now that the fellow Kumon had gotten to know Saturn a little bit more. He had visibly let his train of thought deviate from the task at hand, and the random chaos of the thoughts running in his mind had led him astray.
"Say, Yagi-san. Do you think Kumogakure would survive a zombie apocalypse?"

Did he give too hard of an objective? Yagi was always told his empathy or rather his social awareness was not all that it was supposed to be and at this point as he watched the man in front of him think about his words for a moment he thought he very well might have short circuited something that was valuable to anyone…their brain. However, as Yagi looked with his own senses he was able to pick up on a subtle change in Saturn’s chakra and how it spread out. Without a doubt he was able to read the objects within that room, but then it all came crashing down as Saturn snapped back into his own body and he opened his eyes like a train was just about to hit him. However, his next question was in fact a train and it hit Yagi as if it were going full speed. He fell backwards onto the floor, having lost his footing for a moment, but he still sprung back up and shook his head before laughing in earnest. “Wha….what the hell kind of…Saturn my friend…no the undead would be kept at bay by my family or even the Yagami clan. Zombies are…well they are not a threat to us here.” He said as he blinked a couple of times and then with a sigh he would point up where the wall at the sealed room was. “So which rock did you see, the chakra that is infused within them allows us to see them clearly. So tell me Saturn, which one did you see?” He waited for an answer as he was feeling the area out for anything else that he might be able to use to train Saturn if need be.

Amazing! How light on his feet.. Saturn looked overly astonished as Yagi sprung back up as swiftly as he fell backwards. Ya-Yamagi..? He chuckled, placing the edge of his balled fist on his lips to suppress his laughter, thinking that the name sounded kind of funny. Between the Yagami clan and The Haetlik, it would appear that even after all the time that he has spent growing up in Kumogakure, Saturn had a long way to go before he was up to speed on all the Kumon gossip. The blonde Genin's eyes followed his new mentor's finger up towards the point on the ceiling. He scratched his beard, yet today there was really no beard or stubble on his clean shaven face, and fixed his gaze further ahead, towards where moments earlier he had indeed thought that he had sensed the 'rock' in question. The position on the ceiling that Yagi pointed out was indeed the same area that Saturn with his closed eyes had previously ventured into, relying purely on his instinct. "That's it! Right there.. I wasn't sure if I was tripping but.."
With his light blue eyes fixed on the spot, Saturn took a few short steps until his approximation of the sealed room and its rocks were positioned directly overhead. He closed his eyes again, this time with an even more focused, deliberate and ferocious vigor. On his second try, he was more skilful in his approach. He took a long breath and exhaled sharply from his mouth, blowing the air out of his lungs until they were all but empty. His perception had already transcended once again into the environment around him. His head tilted upwards on its own but his eyes remained shut. Above him, just as he had suspected, he sensed the same structure. It was not three separate rocks as he had previously perceived, but a single piece of rock with three sections. The sections were arranged in a triangular shape, with one tip being decidedly conical in three dimensions and triangular in two. At the base of the triangular structure, were the other two sections side by side - one was a square and a rectangle, the other a circle and a cylinder.
Saturn grinned proudly as he opened his eyes, grabbing a stray stick from the floor before walking back over to Yagi. In front of them - between himself and the Jounin - was a small rectangular pit of gravel and white sand, the kind used in Zen gardens. Saturn was more pictorial in his thinking, and he found it easier to show Yagi his vision visually rather than to try and articulate it into words. Crouching down, he extended his arm with the stick and etched his vision into the sand. "It went something like.." He drew a triangle, and then a circle and a square, both touching the triangle's base. Holding the stick, he grinned wide from ear to ear and looked up at the Raitenno, fairly confident about his conclusion.

Watching Saturn work was fairly easy, the young man was easy to just introduce to a theory and watch him practice. Now Yagi was not calling him dumb per say, but he was, at this moment surprised with how easily that worked out and he grinned as Saturn drew out the formation in the sand and explained what he was apple to sense. “That is good that you learn quickly, and I am happy that I was able to show you those basics. Continue to practice and soon no ostrich will stand a chance against you.” He said with a chuckle. “Is there anything that I can show you while I have time, or are you just looking to learn how to unlock the route to sensory?” He asked as he waited for Saturn to speak up, perhaps he had some other things he needed taught…just hopefully not from a book.

For a brief moment as he etched the final edges of his diagram into the sand, Saturn was immersed in bliss. He felt the calm high that came with the rush of serotonin into his blood following his sense of achievement, and nothing else mattered. As he fixed his cold blue eyes into the pit of white sand, the lines that he had drawn seemed to multiply. From Saturn's awareness, the edges of his depiction seemed to rotate and fold. They would overlap each other in his blurred vision. Distinctly, the image of a familiar circumscribed triangle stood out to him as a repeating pattern in his disorientation. How did all these squares make a circle?! He thought to himself and then snapped out of his daze into the middle of Yagi's sentence. Looking up at the Jounin from his crouched position, Saturn softly squinted his eyes for a split second - reading into Yagi's surprisal at his quick uptake of the sensory route. But he did not take it personally. Although he possessed a competitive spirit, his humility far overshadowed his pride. It occurred to him that he could only have learned as fast as he did because his talented friend had taught him even faster. Remarkable! His instructions were perfect. How did he know exactly what to say? Immediately after Yagi said the word 'ostrich', Saturn would drop the stick, get up on his feet and point a finger gun at an imaginary target in front of him as though he was taking aim at an exceptionally tall adversary.
"Thank you, Yagi-san. You instructed me perfectly. You must be really good! I'm not your first student, am I?" Saturn cocked his finger gun and squinted one eye. "Those fiends are no joke! When I was wrestling with the one I told you about, there weren't many openings." Saturn couldn't throw hands for shit, he was pinned to the ground ducking into pockets of space on the sides of the marauder's neck playing peek-a-boo. "It got me thinking.. What if.. there was a jutsu that you could fire using only your finger, just like this?" He clicked his finger, "It would be like a ranged weapon with a shooting tube to launch some kind of projectile, ........but made with your fist. And then you could aim with your finger, like this. And then - bang!" He glanced at Yagi to see if he was on board before continuing, "Fire a projectile, like a concentrated beam of chakra. No hand seals required."
