Task: In honour of the memory of the late Queen Akihana Akari, the various restaurants and kitchens of the City Blessed by the Stars will regularly produced baked goods for the village's children, as Akihana had in the past regularly taken over the palace kitchens to do. Once a tradition upheld solely by the palace, over the years it has taken a hold over much of the city, and those participating will usually hire shinobi to track down ingredients for them or take charge in distributing treats to the city's children. This will frequently take place during one of the village's many festivals, during special events, or on the anniversary of Akihana's coronation.

On yet another hot summer’s day Madara was busy looking out of the window of her bedroom. She wondered what she would do with her time today however all she could manage to come up with was a sigh. She wanted to go outside but it was hot. It was the kind of heat where all she wanted to do was lay flat on the ground and pour water of her face until the evening came. She would likely have done just that if her mother did not come in and have a word with her. Madara fixed her posture when her mother walked in. She made her back sit upright and crossed her legs. She also reached for something nearby but there wasn’t anything to grab. She wanted to make it seem like she was busy with something but she was much too slow to pull that off.

“There you are, I’ve been looking all over for you,” mother said. She then noticed that her daughter’s window was open and that Madara must have come inside through it instead of the front door. “I told you to stop coming back and forth through the window.” She looked like she wanted to chastise her daughter some more but she was in a rush so she decided against it. “There’s a mission that came for you. You’re supposed to go fetch some ingredients for some kind of festival. Here’s a list and do mind that they need those today. Today, Madara.” She stressed. Mother hurried off to do whatever it was that mothers did all day, leaving Madara with a sour look on her face.

Madara hated chores, especially those that made her go outside in the summer and winter. She closed her eyes to try to calm herself but her mind didn’t want to take her to a peaceful place. She wanted to get up and scream in frustration. She finally came to the conclusion that she wasn’t getting out of this chore no matter what she did so she thought, “alright. I’ll do it but I’m not going to enjoy it one bit. And I’m bringing the knot too.”

“The knot” was just that, A knot. It was tied to one of her mom’s old purses and Madara had a habit of undoing the knot and then tying it again. It was a sort of pickpocketing practice. Loosening the knot just enough to slip the bag away was the easiest way she could think of to take someone’s purse. Not that she made a habit out of doing that, yet. She told herself she wouldn’t do that kind of stuff until she got really good at it.

Madara walked to the market where the first of the ingredients could be found. It was some kind of spice that her mother had written down. It was not crowded at all which was convenient because the girl spent most of her time staring down at the knot while trying to open it. Her fingernails were dull and had no sharp edge to catch the knot which only served to make it harder to undo. Sometimes she’d use her teeth to help and other times she just massaged the knot. Unraveling it was not complicated by any means but it did take time. It took patience too which was why she was, as usual, in a poor mood by the time she got to the market. It would have been nice to be able to ignore the heat and focus but that was just impossible for her.

Madara held the shopping list above her head to see if the small amount of shade it provided would be significant at all. It wasn’t. Luckily the shop she needed to go to was indoors. It was heavily shaded too so the relief from the heat was much appreciated. She wandered around the very aromatic store until she found someone who could help her. After handing over the note and some money Madara sat down in a corner and retied the knot once more. Her fingers protested when she went to undo the knot again.

By the time Madara got the spices and her change she decided she’d had enough of the knot for the day. She tied the purse to her waist and carried the spices off to the next store. There was a list of vegetables she was supposed to get next and unlike the spice store she could not get them all in once place. By the end of her shopping trip she had a bag full of goods that she really did not want to carry all the way back home. By the time she was half way to the mission office to drop off the ingredients she had already held the bag in every position imaginable and had resorted to dragging it along the ground every once in a while.

When Madara finally got to the mission office she handed off the bag of goods to the office who was very annoyed that half the vegetables were damaged from being roughly handled. Some of the spices had leaked out too. The only thing that spared her from a stern reprimand was her pitiable look and how covered in sweat the poor girl was.

“Go wash up, the day’s not over yet, not by a long shot. You’ve got another mission this afternoon.”

Madara groaned but she had no choice but to listen. Having a wash did sound like a good idea however, so she enjoyed it while the clean water lasted. She refrained from using all of it despite wanting to since she knew it was probably bad for her skin.

Later on she ended up going home for dinner and she dozed off at the table. A fist slammed on the eating table and Madara was jolted back to reality. She looked around to see that all eyes were on her and that she was drooling a little bit. She quickly wiped it away and looked to see who exactly was talking to her. It was her father and he didn’t look a bit pleased with her.
