This is the first mission in "The Sealsmith" and leads to the following:
Word Count Requirement: 1,000
Reward: 9,000 Ryo / 30 AP
Character Requirements: Must have Fuuinjutsu as a specialty
Character Exclusive: -
It was raining today, a fact that annoyed Kana but she was a big girl, she could suck it up and continue on with her mission even if she found herself wearing a rather large rain poncho to keep herself somewhat dry as she traveled through the village to reach the more fancier homes of the rich pricks in the village, she wondered how they would've felt if Kana had arrived wearing a garbage bag instead like she used to back when she still just a little street rat struggling to survive. That had felt like a life time ago, being stuck out in the cold and trying to save whatever she can from the rain while keeping herself warm, it was especially bad during the colder months and if it wasn't for some kind people taking her in from time to time, she probably would've died out in the cold yet here she was now, a chuunin within the village with her own home and a more ryo that she honestly didn't know what to do with so she had given the village most of her earnings, Merlin seemed to know what he was doing and while she wouldn't say she fully trusted the man, she trusted him enough to keep improving the village that she calls home.
Arriving at the noble's house, Kana took a deep breath and concealed any of her disdain for the rich before knocking on the door, the home itself seemed fairly large, 2 stories and probably half the size of her apartment block, meaning it likely had a few rooms just sitting around that saw little to no use yet when the door opened, she had expected some fat man to greet her but instead she was met with a slim and beautiful woman dressed in a fancy kimono. The woman didn't seem to expect Kana either as she looked down in surprise, caught off guard by such a young girl being the one that was sent to help repair the sealing that was supposed to keep her home secure from whoever had managed to break through the seals and into the home to steal some of the woman's belongings, or so she had read about in the mission details, Kana didn't exactly care about a rich person being robbed to care.
"My, you're awfully young..." The woman spoke with a mixture of disbelief and surprise as she stepped aside to allow Kana to enter her home, at least having the decency to not question her ability to perform her job so far but Kana suspected it was only because she wearing the flak jacket, an unofficial badge of office for her rank up toward Chuunin at the very least but maybe in due time she'll be able to wear whatever the anbu wore to really show everyone she isn't one to be fucked with. "My name is Kana, I'll be repairing the damages to the seals done in your home, can you point me to them?" Kana chose to ignore her comment for the time being and instead focus on the mission, if the woman wasn't going to complain about her age directly then Kana saw no need to get into some petty argument for the sake of proving her worth, she was being paid to fix some seals, not get into any fights with some rich bitch. "Oh, right the seals! I hired another shinobi to come and apply them a few months ago because there was some creep stalking me." The woman explained as she lead Kana deeper into the house, the environment was nicely decorated and contained a bunch of random artistic junk Kana didn't really care for, vases, statues and paintings were in random areas of the house alongside small plants.
"I don't think it was that creep that broke in however, I hired a shinobi to get rid of him. Not kill him! Just tell him to get lost." The woman continued to explain and Kana's eyebrow rose at the mention of a shinobi "getting rid" of a stalker, something that the woman noticed as well as she quickly corrected herself before finally opening the door to what seemed to be an office or meeting area, the window had been busted open and a safe that sat on the desk to her right was also broken into and left open, whatever valuables were left in there long since gone. "That stalker wasn't a shinobi, I even asked about it and the kunoichi said it'd take another fuuinjutsu user to break those seals, a particularly good one at that." The woman kept talking as Kana entered the room, looking over the area for where she would place seals if she were trying to keep the area protected, the most obvious was the window itself, the fact that it was shattered meant someone broke the sealing and then broke the window, otherwise the whole purpose of a seal would be useless. Another place of interest was the small safe, a fuinjutsu lock would be ideal right there alongside any additional seals to keep the contents safe and secure, she had been reading up on potential seals to use in the future and a barrier seal would probably work just fine there, same for the window if it was rigged to go off upon first contact with something using a certain amount of force.
"Did the guy tell you what these seals were?" Kana questioned as she looked around the room for any other seals, using her own fuinjutsu breaking to check and reveal any hidden seals, poking random spots with her two glowing fingers and watching for any sign of glowing symbols. "Yes, he said the window was protected by a barrier seal and there were two on the safe, one of them was another barrier seal while the other was a fuinjutsu lock." The woman recalled the fuinjutsu seals the previous shinobi had used to try and protect the woman's house, it was simple but Kana had been brushing up on those fuinjutsu enough that she felt reasonably comfortable in replicating the seals here, she'd merely have to ensure they worked perfectly before she left and besides, she had a unreasonably large amount of chakra to use even without counting her abilities to regenerate her own chakra due to the chakra storage seal if she wanted to apply that to herself, that would naturally result in her seals being stronger than whatever chump had been hired to place the initial seals.
"I should be able to repair it no problem." Kana answered as she looked over the areas, the window would be a simple barrier and as long as nobody tried to punch the empty air while installing the window, it shouldn't activate and mess up any construction but then again, she had hadn't yet perfected her sealing just yet, she had learnt many fuinjutsu but barrier jutsu was low on her list of things to learn but she was certain she could get it done for the job, it was strange to learn while doing but Kana had been practicing and getting the bare basics down, it wasn't like she was just picking up a brand new jutsu from a hat and deciding to learn it on the job, if anything this was more akin to bringing a prototype out for it's first real test run. Letting out a small sigh, Kana reached into her vest's many pockets and brought forth a simple paintbrush she had picked up long ago, initially she bought it only for writing stuff down when she needed to but with the addition of fuinjutsu, the paintbrush was seeing more and more use to the point that she made sure the paint within was topped up and ready to be used before she left the house on the off chance she may need to use it.
"Are these the only seals?" Kana asked as she allowed her chakra to flow into the tips of her index and middle finger, letting it glow a soft blue as she poked around the room to try and find any additional seals that she may have missed, it would be good if she had a copy to work from. "Yes, I had the shinobi place barrier seals on every window to the house, alongside a fuinjutsu lock on both the front and back door but none of them are broken." The woman answered quickly as Kana let the chakra in her hands dissipate, no longer needing to blindly check for the seals, it'd be slightly annoying to have to go check her work against someone else's but all fuinjutsu was the same, she just needed to ensure her brush strokes were in the correct order and fashion while allowing her chakra to flow from herself into her paint as she worked, it was a method used primarily by those who were learning fuinjutsu to really understand how to direct the chakra into the proper patterns and flow, after that was just allowing her chakra to be molded into a type of ink and the recreating the patterns without the aid of the brush while controlling the flow of chakra, enough to power it properly, too much and the ink would spill and ruin itself, too little and the ink could come out patchy, ruining the fuinjutsu itself.
"Good, I'll check them to make sure I'm applying the right seal and the right power, don't want to give you the weaker version of the seals after all." Kana said with a simple nod to herself as she began to walk toward the nearest window out in the living room, the place was fancy and the couch was soft as Kana sat on it and brought out a blank scroll and placed it before onto a nearby table, nudging the plant that had been placed there off to the side to give the proper space to work with. "What are you doing?" The woman questioned as she watched Kana, who ignored her for the time being as she once more allowed chakra to flow into her index and middle finger, bathing them in a soft blue glow that she brought toward the window, watching as the surface came to light with a blue glow highlighting the seals that were hidden underneath, another thing that was on Kana's list to learn, a list that was never truly ending but would only continue to further her already impressive power. "I'm revealing the hidden seals so I can copy them down properly. I won't make a mess." Kana answered as she studied the way the chakra ink flowed throughout the window, weaving and sliding in delicate strokes to create spiraling swirling arrays that weaved together to create a simple shield, an interesting design but one that was going to be a pain in the ass to copy properly.
Letting out a sigh, Kana considered where the best part of the seal she should start with before deciding to start with the very top and just follow the line as best she could, moving with a calm precision that most people probably didn't expect from her if they didn't know she was also a medic. As hot headed and short tempered as Kana could be at times, she knew when it was time to shut the fuck up to work and how to remain calm no matter the situation, her natural skill with chakra control and large chakra reserves really only made sense for her to take advantage of what she was given, so fuinjutsu and medical jutsu became her forte, sensory related jutsu had been a bit more tricky to pin down but she figured it out and while she lacked a bit in the offense department, Gunshin was there to cover her and she had her own tricks to stay alive and wear someone down in a war of attrition if the need ever arose.
"Call me if you need anything darling, I got business to handle, I'll be in my personal office upstairs." The woman eventually declared as she began to make her way up the stairs, content to let Kana work in peace while she handled her own affairs, Kana only giving a simple nod as she traced the spiraling array, letting the paint brush flow in simple circles while slowly overlapping her previous spirals that had dried by the time she had returned to it, it was probably a good sign, she wasn't an expert artist by any means but she imagined wet paint meeting wet paint wouldn't end up doing so well for maintaining her current flow and work. The pattern continued as she continued to guide the line into the shape of a shield composed of various lines overlapping each other until she finally connected the line back to the very beginning and she leaned back to get a better look at the seal, her eyes moving back and forth between the seal she had created and the one that the previous shinobi had created, it seemed about right at first glance but then she noticed the slightest error, a bit of the paint had spilt down from the original design, a part where she paused and hesitated on where the line should've went next.
Growling to herself, Kana picked another empty spot on the blank scroll and began to draw once more, she wouldn't make the same mistake twice and she once more allowed the paint to flow as she began to trace the pattern once more, her movements more confident and precise, she wouldn't fuck it up again. At least weaving the line over previous lines in spirals to create the vague shape of a shield was proving itself to be soothing that her previous annoyance over fucking up as soon forgotten as she allowed her mind to became calm more while working with her new found confidence, know where she had fucked up last time would only prove to aid her, it was how she had survived as a street rat and how she had ended up becoming as good as a kunoichi as she had now, throwing herself at a problem until she found a way to make it work through sheer determination was her specialty.
Once more Kana finished the seal and leaned back to look at the original seal and the copy that she had created to spot any differences that may result in the seal failing to do it's job as it was supposed, she eyed the two for a few minutes and seemed pleased with her work, she was sure she had gotten it right this time but just to ensure she wouldn't fuck it up she once more created another trace of the seal, really letting her hand get used to guiding the line through and around itself to form the shield, the result once more looking to be a close enough copy that she couldn't spot any difference and should in theory work well when it came time to apply the seal herself onto the window frame. Nodding to herself, Kana moved toward the back door with the scroll in hand, ready to copy the seal for the fuinjutsu lock, something that should be a whole lot easier to recreate since she had seen some more weaker version labeled as lower tiers from E to C, something that dictate mostly by molding and guiding the chakra in a different way rather than changing the design of the fuinjutsu lock if she had recalled her brief look over the jutsu correctly, still it wouldn't hurt to brush up her skill at creating the seal before trying to apply it, it wouldn't do to fuck it up and leave a job half finished.
"Alright, let's do this." Kana muttered to herself as she once more allowed her chakra to gather at her fingers and she revealed the design for the fuinjutsu lock, a simple array that was circular in nature without the weaving and spirals to create a shield, yet as Kana worked away and finished the small circular seal, she noticed something was wrong almost instantly, it was subtle enough that she didn't notice at first but comparing the two revealed that her own seal was larger in design, not by a large margin but enough that it was apparent when put up against the original. Sighing to herself, Kana once more began to recreate the design with her ink, allowing her hand and brush to flow freely with the only real adjustment being the correction in letting the spiral expand outward a bit more than she had originally allowed herself to design the thing until Kana was once more faced with a replica of the design she could compare against the original, this time she didn't find any real flaw in her work and just like before, Kana recreated the design on another spare spot to really ensure she knew what she was doing when it came time to apply the seal and secure the safe from any future robberies.
Pleased with her efforts, Kana put away her materials, she had done the hand seals before enough times to know how she should be molding the chakra but it was going to be her first time really trying to use her jutsu in an actual job, which was still something she wasn't exactly pleased to do and wouldn't make a habit out of doing it but her fuinjutsu was focused on supporting her and Gunshin in a more combat oriented setting, not the setting up a defense anywhere and she was honestly lucky that she was already learning these particular jutsu before she got here, she dreaded to imagine what would've happened if she had to admit she wouldn't be able to perform the job due to her inability to create a new set of defensive seals, that would've just be very embarrassing.
Taking a deep breath, Kana figured the easiest option to work with would be the fuinjutsu lock, the design was simple and fresh on her mind still so moving toward the strange office or meeting point once more, Kana ensured the safe was shut before beginning to gather her chakra and start performing the hand seals needed to guide and mold her chakra properly, Dog, Ox, Dragon and Tiger, such a simple and small set of hand seals for something that could be so much more complex but Kana wasn't going to complain as she reached out to touch the safe with her chakra infused finger and allowing the chakra to rush onto the safe, guiding the chakra as one would using a brush just as she practiced and as her chakra faded and the seal was left on the safe, Kana let out a sigh of relief when she tried to open the safe only for the thing to refuse to even budge an inch despite the fact that Kana didn't actually lock the thing properly.
"Now the harder one." Kana muttered to herself, this one was more tricky and probably should've been the one Kana started with if she was being honest with herself, having the complex design fresh on her mind would've been a lot more helpful than a simple circular design of the fuinjutsu lock she had applied but it was too late already. Once more gathering her chakra, she started performing the hand seals to mold her chakra properly, Bird, Monkey and Serpent even less seals than the lock but as far as Kana knew, one didn't need any additional hand seals to perform higher ranked Fuinjutsu locked and instead one just needed to know how to guide the chakra in such a way to avoid overpowering the seal and causing the "chakra ink" to become runny, something that was a bit beyond Kana's current skill level. Regardless, her current skill level was more than enough to guide the barrier seal into completion as she placed her palm against the safe, feeling her chakra fade away as she poured the gathered chakra into the seal to ensure it was strong, a bit stronger than the previous seal was anyways but how much stronger she couldn't say for sure.
The process for the window frame was done just as easily, Kana performed the hand seals a bit quicker and allowed the seal to form a bit faster but beyond that it was the same process as applying the seal onto the safe and she knew she did it right when she tried throwing a kunai through the open window only to watch the kunai fall to the ground harmless with the barrier activating properly and stopping it before it could fly through the window and into the woman's fence. "I think I finished up, I'll be heading out now." Kana called up to the woman who was presumably still busy writing away in her office, the faint shout that sounded like agreement was proof enough that she was too busy and Kana took it as enough of a sign that she could probably get back and report the mission a success, stepping outside Kana was a bit surprised to notice the rain had apparently stopped while she was working, instead the sun was now peaking out from the dark clouds and a soft breeze met her as she began to make her way back to the mission center to finish up her paper work and finally claim her pay.
