It wasn't a glamourous look truth be told, with a heavy duty apron, gloves, and mask that fogged up and obscured most of his vision. In better circumstances Shiki would not be caught dead in such attire, alas times were tough right now. His tab at this restaurant in particular had become just a bit too high. His options were quite limited in that regard, either become known as a non-tab payer and be banned from every restaurant and bar across the island, or just do some more manual labour.
A hard choice it had been, but in the end Shiki was won over with knowledge that this restaurant in particular was in danger of being closed down.
Which was why they were now rolling around on the floor, wrestling a stray racoon that had been let inside. This was perhaps the least dignifying day of the man's long life, or at the very least it was certainly up there.
The raccoon, surprisingly agile and quite vicious for its size, had found its way into the kitchen through a window left open for ventilation. Now, the raccoon chittered angrily, its claws scratching at the tiled floor as it tried to evade Shiki's grasp. "Just hold still, will you?" Shiki muttered under his breath, his voice muffled by the mask. He lunged again, managing to grab the raccoon by its midsection. The raccoon, however, had other plans. With a wriggle and a twist, it slipped from his grasp, darting across the floor towards a stack of pots and pans.
With a sigh, Shiki scrambled after it, making a diving catch of the beast before it could cause more mayhem.
One animal dealt with, only a few more to go, but at least he did his part right?

community service would continue, and with it the most mundane of tasks. His latest mission had him yearning to once again dive deep into the earth and return to his roots. His initial time had always been spent mining and assisting in the various expeditions to pull wealth and resource from the earth. Now however, he was banished to dealing with silliness. The sale at an old women’s estate had been one thing, but now cleaning up an old run down restaurant prior to a health inspectors arrival? Honestly it seemed like a waste of his abilities, but what could one do.
Arriving just in time to see a man playing tag with a raccoon, he’d guffaw. The creature had nearly gotten the better of him, but with a diving bit of acrobatic recovery the man turned the encounter around. “Nice catch.” He’d say simply, getting himself to work. No doubt the other one knew he wouldn’t be alone, and given the nature of the work, and his own annoyance at doing it….more introduction seemed unnecessary at best. Thus he mostly ignored the other guy and went about his own tasks. Raccoons in the kitchen, rats in the pantry, and squirrels in the attic.
It seemed doubtful the place could ever pass an inspection if these where the overt aspects that one could observe. It belayed to a deeper cleanliness problem if things had gotten this bad. Still, the actual success wasn’t the mission, animal control was. Looking through what had been left for him, the larger man opted for a more dignified approach than belly crawling after beasts, besides he wasn’t sure if he could pull off such a move and actually get back up. He’d spend some time taking inventory of what had been left for them in the main dining area.
Moving into the pantry he’d take up scraps of food that had been passed up for serving, though it wasn’t easy to tell. Cutting off pieces of stale cakes, and moldy vegetables he’d return to the eating area and move about organizing traps. Sorting them from largest to smallest, and considering which bits of bait would be best for each beast he’d begin placing the items in the traps. The larger traps he reserved for the sweets and stale cakes, these would be most useful for the raccoons the greedy bastards. The large cages were awkward but easy enough to place the bait deep inside so that it would snap shut once they entered.
The smaller traps he lined with vegetables and what ever else he could find, for that was for the squirrels. These traps he set up first, and he thought the skittishness of the squirrels would require the most time for them to venture out. He placed some in the attic, some outside, and small space that the little beasts were likely to traverse through. Once done he placed the raccoon traps in similier intervals though mostly paying attention to the outside trash area, as they were most likely to attempt robbery in that place.
Finally, it was the rats. Likely the most difficult to get rid of. Mostly because of how quickly they bred, not getting them all would surely result in more, and the chances that it would come back on him. He set out the sticky rat traps, and other more violent ones. He also walked about sealing off some of the holes he could find that they were surely using to enter the restaurant. It took much of the day, but when he was done, it felt like a job well completed.
Leaving the place for several hours he’d return and take care of whatever had been caught. Overall, the efforts of the two men were successful. To make certain however, before he left for the night he left Wiggly-Woo to patrol the area. The snake would undoubtedly finish off any other pesky vermin that they had missed. Content with getting his pet in the morning, Takeshiyama left, feeling a job well done even if it had not been a job worth doing. Heading to Darkseid he was determined to finally get those pancakes he’d tried to order days before.
