Seikatsu had settled into his new home quite comfortably. Although he hadn't been there long, he already felt a significant shift in his life and the quality of living he was about to embark on. It was intriguing to him how much he had grown in such a short period. He couldn't help but wonder how different his life might have been if he had been part of a real village from the very beginning. The thought of an alternate life, filled with different experiences and opportunities, crossed his mind often.
As he prepared himself for the day ahead, Seikatsu stepped out of his new home and carefully locked the door behind him. Today was an important day; he was heading towards the academy with a sense of determination and anticipation. Today, he planned to take what they called the Genin Exams, a crucial step in his journey as a shinobi. The morning air was crisp and invigorating, filling him with a sense of purpose and excitement.
Walking through the village, Seikatsu noticed the bustling activity around him—shopkeepers setting up their stalls, children laughing and playing, and other shinobi going about their duties. The sense of community and belonging was palpable, something he had yearned for and was now starting to experience. His mind wandered back to his training, recalling the countless hours of practice and the wisdom imparted by his teacher. All of it had led to this moment, and he was determined to prove himself.
Arriving at the academy, Seikatsu took a deep breath and steeled himself. The building loomed large, yet it also held the promise of new beginnings and opportunities. He could hear the faint sounds of other students preparing, a mix of nervous chatter and focused silence. With each step, his resolve strengthened. Today was the day he would take the Genin Exams and begin the next chapter of his life, a chapter filled with challenges, growth, and the pursuit of his dreams.
”I wonder - do people usually move this quickly through the academy or does it take some time? I feel as though I am ready to move on to bigger and better things. Ultimately becoming a fully-fledged ninja for Tsukigakure and gaining as much power as I can.”
Seikatsu found that he had recently started talking to himself—a habit he should probably get a handle on. Keeping his thoughts to himself might turn out to be a wise decision someday, even though it had become quite ingrained. As he pushed the front door open, he strolled down the hallway to his usual room, making sure to open the door before walking through it. This was a precaution he now took after the embarrassing incident the other day when, exhausted from his early morning training, he had walked straight into the closed door. The memory of the amused reactions from his classmates, who had already arrived, still made him smile… slightly.
The way Seikatsu planned to approach the Genin Exam was likely a bit unconventional. He had heard from the instructors that there would eventually be a class-wide exam, but he felt he couldn't wait for that to happen. While patience was certainly a virtue, it was not one Seikatsu had yet mastered. He was eager to prove himself and didn't want to wait for an indeterminate future date. As he entered the classroom, he followed his usual routine of nodding to the instructor before sitting down. However, today was different—he raised his hand. This was highly unusual for Seikatsu, who typically avoided speaking in front of the class. His classmates, accustomed to his quiet demeanor, glanced at him with curiosity. The decision to raise his hand was a bold move, signaling his determination and readiness to take on the challenge of the Genin Exam without further delay.
”Go ahead Seikatsu, what is it?”
As the instructor asked, he too was curious as to what the young man was going to say or ask. His eyes intently looking out towards the boy, his curiosity piqued. You could almost see his ears wiggle as he heard what the young ninja-to-be was asking. He had merely been in this class for days, not even weeks and he wanted to do what? His eyebrows raised as his eyes widened with interest. Should he allow the boy to attempt what he was asking? Did he even know the qualifications of what it was that he needed to do to pass? There was only one way to find out - the instructor nodded his head in an agreeable motion.
”Thank you, sir.” These were all the words Seikatsu needed to hear. With newfound resolve, he stood up from his desk and walked to the front and center of the classroom, where the instructor had directed him. As he positioned himself and faced his classmates, a wave of nervousness washed over him. His heart raced, but a few deep breaths helped him regain his composure. He awaited the next instructions from the teacher, trying to maintain his focus. As he looked out towards the class, he noticed their eyes were fixed on him, curiosity and anticipation evident on their faces. They all seemed genuinely interested in what was about to unfold, adding a layer of pressure that Seikatsu was determined to rise above.
”I see… you aren’t actually aware of what needs to be done to pass the genin exam…” A slight chuckle escaped the mouth of the instructor before he regained his composure. ”Well then, what you need to do is to perform two basic techniques that every ninja must know in order to graduate - the transformation technique and the clone jutsu. These are staples amongst shin…”
Right in the middle of the instructor's little monologue, Seikatsu began to perform the hand seals for the transformation technique. A cloud of smoke briefly appeared as the young student had transformed himself into the teacher. The technique was performed so flawlessly that side by side… you could tell no difference. ”You mean like this?”
Seikatsu was being facetious when he asked the question. Before waiting for the instructor's response, he quickly made the appropriate seals for the Clone Jutsu, creating a perfect copy of the teacher. The mouths of the other students dropped open in shock, and the teacher stood speechless. Seikatsu almost felt like picking the instructor's jaw off the floor but decided against it, thinking his sarcastic response had been enough.
As the moments passed, Seikatsu dispelled the clone and released the transformation he had performed. He had grown tired of being as short as the instructor and didn't like the sensation. The impressive display left the class in awe, and Seikatsu couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction at their reactions. He reveled in the moment, enjoying the mixture of surprise and admiration from his peers. It was a small victory, but it reinforced his confidence and determination to excel in his ninja training.
”So, do I pass?”
Seikatsu was ready to get on with his day. If so, he didn’t have time to waste away in the classroom. The instructor was finally able to get the shock out of his system and let the boy know that yes, he had passed the exam and that from today forward he would encounter things that he couldn’t imagine - the grind to prepare yourself never stops. You can become as strong as you wish to be was the ultimate message to Seikatsu, something that the newly formed genin actually appreciated. With that done, the instructor passed a Tsukigakure headband to Seikatsu - a symbol that he was now a shinobi of the moon village.
”Good luck.”
