On this day, Carrion volunteered to shadow a particularly regal Queensman of his own volition. Initially stoic, the man's poise and graceful expressions faltered after Carrion introduced himself. "Sir. Carrion Canopic, at chore service. " The man recoiled from the sound of Carrion's ventilator's hisses and metallic vibrato, holding his nose as if he had discovered a particularly unpleasant smell. He apologised profusely, attempting to abscond from the academy student's presence, "I'm really sorry, but no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to come up with a more concise and less curt introduction. This Queensman knew of Grandfather's Gift; it showed in his disconcertion. While neither of the men was offended, they admitted they were at an impasse.
With its rich history and unique blend of monarchy and shinobi culture, Haven has its own local authorities known as Queensmen. These esteemed individuals have been the city's guardians and advisors long before it became a shinobi village. Their enduring commitment to the city's well-being provides a sense of reassurance and security. Spending a day with a Queensman was an honour, and it showcased their intimate knowledge of the village, further reinforcing this feeling.
"Grandfather's Gift is a rather rare disease. You understand my contrition?"
"It's not as easily communicable as you believe, given its posterity, sir."
The conversation between the two was spoken at a healthy distance, as Carrion had been taught. They spoke of a disease propagating within the afflicted, known as the Gifted. The Queensman amended, "Canopic is the family name you are all given." Carrion's reply was affirmative,"Yes. We are 'gifted' in the way we do not perish from that which would ravage the nation. " The information was not common knowledge, but the Canopic would be exterminated if an outbreak occurred.
Spending a day with a Queensman of Hoshigakure revealed the depth of their commitment to the city and its people. Their profound historical knowledge, strategic thinking, and unwavering community engagement exemplify the qualities that make them revered figures. Treating them with respect and courtesy is not just a matter of protocol but a recognition of their invaluable role in the city's past, present, and future. They have played a crucial role in assimilating the shinobi, and their continued presence ensures peace and prosperity. Throughout the day, the Queensman emphasised the importance of being well-acquainted with one's surroundings to detect any anomalies promptly. Carrion considered asking him questions but thought better of bothering the man with his own curiosities. Happy to imbibe all information that the Queensman proffered, Carrion understood this to be a learning experience.
Despite the challenges presented by the shinobi's previous presence in Haven, the citizens appeared reassured by the Queensman's current presence. Carrion learnt that the Queensmen patrolled regularly through the vast Haven village. It was within their administrative jurisdiction that they could pass judgment liberally. The queensman did not wield this privilege lightly, and restraint was one of their more admirable qualities. Carrion concluded the day with the Queensman by showing the necessary etiquette, "You've my respect, Sir. Thank you for your service. "After a short pause, he reflected on how to go the extra mile for a man who did so much for so many, "And have a good evening."
