Jun's Solo Training Thread. (p)
Sun Jul 05, 2015 2:50 pm
Jun had the biggest goofiest, weirdest smile on his face. He'd lived a very strange life if you wanted to know his opinion. He's been a farmer, an adventurer, an awards winning writer, and now at the age of sixty a genin. Not only that but he was assigned to the same squad as his Grand daughter! Now what are the chances of that! He was so happy when he learned that he and his grand daughter would be spending so much time with each other. Of course the arrangement wouldn't be permanent, he was so much older than the rest of his squad that he'd be moved somewhere else soon enough, but for the moment he was glad that he'd get to spend time with her. He guessed he really now knew what Li Meant when he said that he'd be in charge of protecting the next generation. He'd literally be protecting his daughter's daughter. He knew that she'd be extremely emberassed if he doted on her in front of their other squad mate, so he kept their relationship quite. Still he couldn't help but blush with pride as he saw her becoming a powerful young lady. Not everyone gets to see their Grand children grow up in such a way so he was proud he would get the change.
She was actually the first ninja in their entire faimly. Up until her they had been a long line of farmers. Nothing special about them other than that. He thought that maybe this was the universe giving their family a shot at greatness. He also wondered if that was the reason he beame a ninja himself. He saw his granddaughter doing it, and he wanted to become closer to her before he died. She'd seemed to resent the life on a farm, so she was often standoffish to her folks, and family. It just sounded like so much fun. when she'd come into the house and talk for hours about how they were performing magic, and all of the classic crazy ninja stuff. Jun had been all around the world and still he'd never given being a ninja a shot. It was certainly on his bucket list... so why not? There was never a better time than the right now and here. So he set out to follow in the foot steps of his granddaughter. A path that is seldom taken by the elder man.
Currently He, his granddaughter, and their squad mate Sebastian were hopping trough the sea of trees. The warm afternoon sun was hidden behind a series of dark grey clouds, which intern were hidden behind a darker series of emerald leaf covered trees. They were on a mission to investigating a group of bandits who were dragging themselves around the moist jungle. They weren't sent to engage the bandits or anything dangerous like that. They were just kids after all. Well two of the squad mates were at least. Plus this was only their first mission. Something too crazy wasn't in the bag for them.
Despite his age he was able to easily keep up with the rest of his squad. Despite his age, which isn't terribly old. Despite his age he was a very active man during his early life, and still was. He tended to a farm after all. so even if his squad mates were spry little kids, he was an adult who had a long history of manual labor to keep himself in the game with. Besides if he fell behind they'd never let him live it down, so he had his pride on the line. He'd rather drop dead from exhaustion than let his pride suffer even a point of damage.
He and his squad sailed through the forest. Up ahead his squads Jounin led the charge. A twenty year old man with pale skin, and bright spiky pink hair. It felt strange for Jun to treat this man as his superior. Or rather adress him as such. He was after all three times his age. This was going to have to be one of those pill he'd have to learn how to swallow early. The kage was a teenager, and the kage before him was even younger. He could only imagine how skilled ninja felt about calling children their superior. Jun had a hard time with it and he wasn't even a fraction of the strength that they were. So if he was a powerless genin then he'd have to find a way to live with it. Perhaps he'd just rise to become one of the most powerful ninja in his village! Then he wouldn't have to answer to anyone! yeah! That at least would give him something to strive for. Right now this who ninja project was just about keeping himself fit and active. He supposed that if he had an actual goal in mind that'd help motivate himself to work even harder at it.
The four ninja jumped from tree branch to tree branch. Their sandals smacking aginst the moist tree branches as they propelled them selves forward. Jun had taken plenty of notes on recon before they went on this mission. The key was to always remain, quite, mobile, and aware. Recon was no good if the enemy spotted you before you could spy them. As such the crew remained silent as they approached the reported position of their target's camp. He wondered what the sort of mind set a ninja was suppose to be in when they were doing something like this. What were they looking for? What were they looking out for? Personally Jun was so busy looking out for branches, and making sure that his feet hit the right branches that he couldn't really be bothered looking for anything concerning the bandits. Maybe if he had the mission would have gone slightly better. Because it seemed that he wasn't the only one who was too busy with their movements to worry about the dangers that lurked around the branches.
Indeed as fate would have it, it was Jun's very own Grand daughter who fell prey to the sinister traps that had been scattered around the forest. It all happen quicker than Jun could even recall. He saw his treasure make a jump for a new tree branch and launch herself forward through the air. Jun couldn't really explain or put into words what he saw next, only that her body and her right leg went in two different directions from there. Without even the time to react jun could only gasp as a fresh spray of blood sprayed cross his chest and face, momentarily blinding him. All he could hear was a single shriek followed by the breaking and snapping of tree limbs, and branches.
"Everyone stop!" Their Jounin shouted, as he dove through the branches to catch Jun's grand daughter before she fell to her death. As he descended through the sky his arm caught a razor wire and received a deep stratch through his shoulder. It bled but it wasn't major. Even as he snatched her from her free fall her leg bled profusely, and needed immediate attention. "Sebastian, Jun keep look out!" He was young, but his words were sure, and commanding.
Jun cleared the blood from his eyes, and unsheathed a kunai. Those bastards were going to pay! Hurting someone so dear to him? It was unforgivable. He held the kunai in his hand so fiercely that his knuckles began to turn white, from his fierce grip. Around them in the canopy nurselings came through the foliage. He could hear whispering, snickering, and other such ghostly noise that would indicate to a pretty that their predator had arrived on the site. Jun bit his tongue and tried to remain calm. He and sebastian were established between their invisible attackers, and their wounded comrade. Jun certainly hadn't expected this when he woke up this morning. If he had he would have prepared a few notes on combat, or at least defensive maneuvering. For now it seemed that he could only stall for time and hope for his Jounin to finish healing up his grand daughter so they could escape.
There was a loud russeling from their right, over to where Sebastian was currently standing a long katana already in his hands. Sebastian's head jerked to his right from where the noise came from. "Oh I've got you now." He chuckled charging forwards towards the source of the sound.
"No wait!" Jun shouted holding out his hands as if to clutch Sebastian mid charge. He was heading into a trap and all Jun could do was shout in hopes that his cries would reach the boy's ear in time.
They did not. Sebastain made the leap, and as jun had suspected lept into a web of wire. He was however not hit as bad as Jun's own grand daughter. Rather than be cut by the wire he managed to break the wire away from the tree branches it was secured to. He tumbled through the wiring and down through the branches below him. He got himself wrapped up in a bundle of wiring. Not dead and hardly injured, but still out of commission. As he was now just a big yarn ball made of razor wire, and tree branches.
Jun sat frozen in his position what was he could do? For all he knew this entire section of the forest was completely covered in razor wire. Too fine for the naked eye to spot in this lighting. All of his team members were down, and all he could do was stand here in impotent terror as the awaited for the bandits to kill him. In all of his life, with all of his experience Jun had never been in a life of death situation. Now on his very first mission he was met with opposition like this. Was this what it was like being a ninja? He'd never suspected anything like this. He'd thought it would be all fire ball magic, and guard duty. Actual blood, actual death... the death of his daughter's daughter. Sweet Anne. His eyes trailed down to the injured wreck that was his Anne. She was sat up aginst a tree as their Jounin attended to her leg. What was left of it. Her leg was somewhere on the forest floor. What was left of her left was being attend too. She was still concious though. Still alive. She looked up at him from several stories below. Her eyes were big, filled with tears, and absolutely begging for him to help. He felt his heart break. His Anne. His sweet Anne. The next generation of his family was going to be struck down here on this day if he didn't do something.
He felt a burning in his eyes. Like salt was being poured into his eyes by the gallons. He could only bite back tears of pain. Even as the tears filled hies eyes the world seemed to grow more vivid. Like everything was coming into focus. Everything including the wire. He could see them now. Spread all around the trees like some physcotic spider web. He could see them glenting with the moisture of the rain fall. So clearly now. Not only that but he could see them. Two men, skittering around the bushes of the canopy. Seeking for a time to strike. Manuvering to get the drop on jun, and take care of the rest of them. Jun could see so clearly now. He wondered if he hadn't reached some sense of Nirvana. Or that aderadline rush that parents get when their children were in trouble. No this felt stronger than those stories. This must be what happens when grand parents protect their grandchildren.
With his new eyes he could spy the wires all around him. The wires and the tension put on him. With a flick of his wrist and hardly any effort on his part he flung his kunai to his left, severing a tightly wound wire that wrapped around a tree. With it's tension released the wire unspooled at a rapid speed. Unfurowwing and slicing into the necks of both of the bandits as they tried to creep into position. They were both cut down in an instant and Jun felt immediate relief. They were down, and his squad was safe. For the moment that was. Everone was injured, some way more than others. He cut Sebastan down and read to his squad leader, hopefully fast enough to get Anne to a hospital, before anything Major happened.
