New Kid on the Block [closed]
Fri Jul 17, 2015 1:34 am
It was a warm night in Konoha. The streets were bustling with people, and it was hard to see the stars in the night sky because of all the lights, but the atmosphere of a city alive while the summer sun slept was a pleasant one, nonetheless. Jin sat at an outdoor ramen noodle bar. It was a small, humble establishment, but his favorite. The food was great in one's belly, and easy on the pockets. Despite it being the later hours of the night, the warm weather permitted the young man to wear a plain white t-shirt with a breast pocket, and his midnight blue shorts. He was also covered head to toe in band-aids and white bandage wraps.
There were a couple of other people at the noodle bar, including a stray cat, but the stools on either side of the blonde haired Yamanaka were vacant. Hunched over, Jin dug into the extra large bowl before him. "New spin on an old recipe, how do you like it?" the ramen chef enthusiastically asked his loyal customer. Jin looked up at the elderly man and just replied with a thumbs up due to his mouth being jammed full of noodles. The chef let loose a hearty laugh before saying, "Good, good!" and getting back to cooking.
Somewhere nearby, a street performer was blissfully complementing the night with tunes from his or her string instrument. Jin had always wanted to learn how to play. Perhaps one day, when things moved slower and life was simple.

Walking through the village streets in her usual chuunin outfit, which consisted of a black sleeveless shirt over a mesh t-shirt with loose black pants, Risako could be seen toying and fiddling with a rubber ball. To most people, she might have appeared to be missing a few marbles due to how much attention she was putting into repeatedly pressing a finger to the ball. Also, to most people, her repeated actions would seem to be a waste of time. To Risako, the ball was her key to learning the intricacies of fuinjutsu, or rather, the sealing art. She had dropped her previous taijutsu studies in favor of gaining a grasp on fuin. Her toying stopped occasionally to confirm her location within the village, and this latest stop occurred at a ramen shop.
Risako walked in, pocketing the ball, and took a seat at the bar, ordering a bowl. As soon as the chef went to make the food, her attention went straight back to the ball. Seemingly, she ignored everything but her work. Before starting, she concentrated her chakra into her finger, causing a tiny blue glow to emanate from the tip. Then, she touched the ball with her finger, and with the slightest spark of excitement, a big goofy grin spread across her face. Of course, she had yet to actually achieve anything with the seal, but she could at least begin to write the seals on objects.

As Jin continued to mercilessly dig into his bowl, he couldn't help but to think about what awaited him the next day. He was finally going to be placed into a team, and in a few short hours would be meeting the three other people he was going to be spending a lot of time with for the foreseeable future. His sister and auntie threw him somewhat of a surprise party (only the three of them, including Jin, albeit) in celebration of the news, even though Jin didn't think it was that big of a deal. In fact, he wasn't really looking forward to it. The thought of being stuck with a couple of twelve year olds was appalling, even if they were both stronger than him, which would probably be the case. Trying to remain optimistic, Jin reassured himself no matter what the dynamic would turn out to be, he could grow as a person regardless. Some new training partners would also be a welcome change from his inhuman twin sister.
Jin put his chop sticks down onto a napkin, picked the large bowl up in both hands, and brought it to his lips. Tilting his head back, he gulped down the rest of the succulent broth. With a satisfied sigh, he placed the bowl down onto the bar. The chef, who had just placed a fresh bowl of ramen in front a girl sitting near Jin, looked at the Yamanaka and said, "Hah hah! Another round, Jin!?" The Yamanaka tried not to smile and nodded his head yes. The white-clad ramen wizard laughed heartily as he picked up Jin's empty bowl and got to work on the next.
The blonde haired young man turned his attention to the new girl sitting at the bar. If she noticed Jin, she'd probably think he was staring at her wondering what the heck she was doing, fingering the rubber ball. But his next question would dispel that notion. "You going to eat that?" Jin politely asked her, referring to the fresh, steaming bowl of scrumptious noodles sitting in front of her. She seemed very preoccupied with the ball, the young Yamanaka just didn't want the noodles to feel unloved.

In her gleeful stupor, Risako neglected both the bowl of ramen she ordered, and the dude asking her if she was gonna eat it. After a second, she snapped her attention to the guy, and distantly said "Uh, I suppose I am." After that, Risako ate a few noodles, but the ball proved to ultimately be a magnet of her attention. She was mere (metaphorical) inches from unlocking the ability to create and place seals. Nothing, not even a cold, starving death would distract her from this. Before focusing completely back on the ball however, she ate a chunk of meat from the bowl and turned to the guy next to her, saying, "What's your name?" While she waited for an answer she turned her attention to the ball, keeping her left ear open for any response.
As said previously, she learned how to place seals, but now she just needed to actually accomplish the task of placing a seal on the ball. She decided to start with the simplest seal, the mark seal. This seal allows the one who placed it to have a constant knowledge of where the target is. It's also incredibly hard to find one on a target unless you're specialized in seals due to how it disappears. Risako took her finger, and focused her chakra into a point on the ball, where an incredibly unnoticeable blueish white light glowed briefly for a second. Where she had touched the ball, a small black dot shown itself for brief two seconds, before disappearing.
The glee on her face could only be described as child like, as she then tossed the ball over her shoulder to see if it worked. Unknown to Risako, the ball landed at the edge of street, and kept rolling. Risako then tried to focus her chakra to get some sense of its location... and nothing. OK, maybe she hadn't mastered it yet, but she was on her way.

It took a moment for the girl to answer, but when she finally did it was to assert that she was in fact going to eat her meal. Obviously, Jin didn't want to eat her ramen, he was just trying to break the ice... even though it looked really good... The Yamanaka noticed she took a nibble and then got right back to fingering the rubber ball she was infatuated with. She asked what his name was, and right around the same time, the master noodle chef approached to serve Jin his second round. They nodded to each other - Jin in gratitude - the chef to non-verbally say the young man was welcome.
"Jin." he simply answered the intriguing girl. "Nice to meet you, miss..?" he asked, leaving the question open ended so she could fill it with her name. Turning to his bowl, he kept his head at an angle so he could maintain eye contact in case she divulged her name, but at the same time allowing himself to jam noodles into his gullet as if he hadn't eaten in days.
The blonde haired boy's brow furrowed when he witnessed her toss the ball down the street. She hadn't thrown it away like a piece of garbage, but instead like she was expecting something to happen. The stray cat sitting on a stool by the bar leapt after the rolling rubber ball with a meow. Since all of her attention had been centered on the object right from her very entrance it bolstered Jin's suspicion that she was up to something. Maybe it was a bomb disguised as a rubber ball and she had been rigging it with some jutsu this whole time.
"You're not some kind of suicide bomber, are you?" he asked with a mouth full of shrimp ramen, his words barely intelligible.

Risako's mind went a little blank when the ball wasn't tracked by the seal. Of course, the seal was put on the ball, it just didn't have the desired effect. Or really, any visible effect at all for the moment. She then responded to the boy's question, well... unfinished statement. "Risako. Nice to meet you, Jin." Her voice wasn't too enthusiastic, but enough to ward off any notions of unfriendliness. Turning back to her bowl, she took a few more bites of the greasy noodles.
About half way through the bowl, she was accused of being a suicide bomber. It took her a moment to think about why, logically, anyone would be drawn to the assumption that she was going to blow herself, and others to bits. Then she realized, just how absorbed in the ball she had been. Almost fanatically, she worked on trying to fiddle with the ball, and she now realized, that to some, she could be mistaken for someone like that. After a few seconds of silence, she started laughing, and wiping a tear from her eye she said "No, nothing like that, I was just practicing something known as fuin-" her voice was cutoff by a rather sharp cracking sound from down the street, followed by some startled shrieks. The noise wasn't much louder than a firecracker, and was very unlikely to hurt anyone.
Risako lowered her head a bit, only making her look a little more guilty, "Well, I'm not a bomber intentionally anyway." She made a note to herself, to only practice fuinjutsu in safer locations from here on out. Even the easy ones, that apparently result in makeshift rubber ball firecrackers. "Fuinjutsu is hard." Continuing with her ramen, Risako got a bite of beef, which didn't really go too well with the burnt flavor of the broth. Pork would have been a better choice for this bowl, but overall, she thought the meal was good.

The girl was amused by Jin's joke, and it brought a small smile to his face. She went on to dismiss his suspicions, explaining that was just practicing the art of sealing techniques. Jin was not very well versed in Fuinjutsu, but he was aware of it, and it was something he planned on learning in the very near future.
What sounded like a firecracker going off, immediately followed by a shrill meow, could be heard a little further down the street. The steady flow of ramen noodles into Jin's mouth came to a stop as he looked at Risako with an unsure expression. Maybe the harmless looking girl was a bomber indeed. She went on to say the rubber ball explosion hadn't been on purpose, and said that learning sealing techniques was hard. Jin picked up a shrimp with his chopsticks and gobbled it up. Maybe he could learn a thing or two from this girl, but then again, she seemed like she was a beginner herself, and the last thing Jin needed was to blow himself up before he even went on his first real mission.
"So that's what you were doing," Jin started, "I'm pretty keen on learning the art of sealing, too. More specifically, undoing them... Think you could give me some pointers?" While waiting for her response, the blonde haired Yamanaka picked up his bowl and gulped down the remaining broth. He felt slightly embarrassed that he was going to finish a second bowl before his acquaintance had finished her first, but at the same time he was contemplating a third.

Risako shrugged. I mean, sure, she learned how to finally put seals and what not, but she still had no clue as to how they should be undone. "I'll let you know how to unseal them when I find out." Looking at her bowl, she saw she only had about a third of a bowl left. Downing another bite of noodles, she managed to make it one fourth of a bowl. "So, Jin, It's been fun." With that, she stood up from her stool, and patted Jin on the back, slowly sliding the bowl towards his. "I'll see ya around pal." With that she started grinning and stuck her hands in her pockets, and began walking down the street. Before she fully left the scene, she would turn and yell, "I owe you some ryo by the way! Thanks for covering me!"
With that, she turned around started running.
