Permission to heal (Training)

It had been less than a week since Togirama Hyuuga had passed the Genin exam and become an official active ninja of Sunagakure and he had yet to be assigned to an official genin team but the young Hyuuga had taken full advantage of the new rank of Genin and signed up to volunteer at the hospital. As an academy student he had not been allowed to volunteer at the hospital but active Genin with an interest in medicine and healing were allowed and infact encouraged to volunteer at the hospital. Togi currently only knew a single very basic medical jutsu but by volunteering at the hospital he hoped to learn more so that he could really help those in need.
 
Togi had woke up early like he would have done when he still attended the academy and dressed in his usual light grey robes, Togi then sat down to a light breakfast though he only picked at the food feeling somewhat apprehensive about his first day at the hospital. It was much the same way that Togi had felt when it was the first day at the academy, Togi knew from experience that he would be judged because of his blindness and there would be many that would think that because he was blind he could not become a medical ninja. Togi would have to fight against these preconceptions it would likely be an up hill struggle but one Togi was determined to achieve.
 
Deciding that taking weapons to a hospital was innapropiate but as a newly qualified genin he should likely keep his ninja equipment on hand at all times Togi unfurled a piece of parchment and with swift fluid strokes Togi drew out a couple of seals. The Young Hyuuga then pressed his palm to the page causing his gear to be sealed away leaving only a slightly glowing symbol. Togi then rolled up the scroll and tucked it away in the inside of his robes. Togi then left his small building closing the door behind him making his way across the streets of Suna in the relative cool heat that only occured in the early mornings and nights in Suna.
 
Reaching the large stone building that served as the village's hospital Togi hesitated just outside the entrance as he let his chakra senses wash over the building, there were already a lot of chakra signatures inside of the building of various strengths. Some of these signatures were quiete strong obviously experienced ninja while others were incredibly weak. Togi wondered if theses signatures belonged to those who were very sick or injured.
 
Steeling his nerves Togi slowly headed inside and headed to what seemed like a reception desk that currently had a moderate sized chakra signature sat behind it. " Excuse me, I am Genin Togirama Hyuuga and I am here for arranged voluntary hospital service" Togi exclaimed politely.
 
"Ah yes we were expecting you Togirama if you would just like to take a seat one of the nurses who you will be shadowing will be out shortly..." A feminine voice replied as she waved towards a nearby group of chairs.
 
"Thank you very much..." Togi replied with a slight bow before taking a seat as instructed.
 
Folding his hands in his lap Togi then deactivated his chakra sight while he waited in order to conserve chakra for the day ahead. It was therefore the sound of footsteps that alerted Togi to someones presence rather than an approaching chakra signature. "Togirama Hyuuga?" A young sounding female voice questioned. "Yes that is me" Togi replied as he brought his hands together forming the tiger seal and quickly pulsing his chakra to reactivate his chakra senses.
 
"I nurse Seya..." a young girl with a chakra signature roughly as strong as Togi's own greeted "You will be working with me today..." The girl declared.
 
"A pleasure to meet you senpai I shall endeavour to help you in what ever way I can" the young Hyuuga declared earnestly.
 
"Good we shall be starting you off in minor injuries Ibelieve from your application that you have already learnt the basics of the basic medical jutsu, is that correct?" the nurse questioned.
 
"Yes Senpai though I have not had many oppertunities to perform it as of yet other than on myself" the young Hyuuga replied.
 
"Well you should have plenty of oppertunities to practice today the majority of the injuries you will see today will be minor cuts and bruises recieved by accident prone civilians or over eager academy  students and genin. Now if you please Togi-san if you will follow me..." the nurse declared as she led the young Hyuuga down a corridor. At the end of the corridor was a desk with another nurse, a number of curtained off sections and a waiting area with patients sitting on chairs.
 
"Ok the first patient is Hatara Muzone" the nurse declared raising her voice when she came to the patients name. A middle aged civilian stood up and made his way forwards cradling an arm that was wrapped in blood stained bandages. "Togi-san, Hatara-san this way please..." the nurse declared as she indicated to one of the curtained off areas.
 
Togi followed the injured man in to the cubicle who at one point stumbled. Togi automatically grabbed a hold of the man and helped him to a seat.
 
"Ok Togi-san, Hatara-san suffered deep lacerations while working in his carpentry stop if you could please perform the basic medical jutsu to stem the bleeding" the nurse instructed.
 
"Yes senpai..." Togi replied resisting the urge to gulp not wanting to show fear or hesitation infront of the patient. Togi then brought his hands together and carefully formed the Boar then Rat and finally the Snake hand seal. A soft glow of light blueish green chakra then began to leak out of the young Hyuuga’s hand and he quickly moved it over the man's wound so that the medical chakra washed over and began to seep in to the wound speeding up the healing process. Togi kept the chakra flow up for a good five minutes and slowly the man's wound began to seal up and close. "Thank you young man" the civilian declared once he wound had closed. Togi offered a polite smile and a nod in response. "You are most welcome" Togi replied dipping his head. The nurse then dismissed the patient and called in the next. Once again the patient had a superficial wound which Togi was asked to treat with his medical chakra. Performing the hand seals Togi formed medical chakra once again and allowed it to wash over the wound, Togi kept the flow going until the wound completely sealed up. The patient was then dismissed and the next called in and for the third time Togi was asked to treat the wound with medical chakra. This process repeated over and over again until a Genin was brought in with a broken arm.
 
"Now this Genin has a broken arm from a taijutsu spar, the break is a clean one and easily treated but healing a broken bone is a little different than healing a cut" the nurse explained. "To do this you need to focus your chakra to hold the bone in place before infusing your chakra in to the bone to activate the healing process.." the nurse instructed "Now please observe and I shall begin the process and then I would like for you to take over..." the nurse added.
 
Togi then paid incredibly close attention as the nurse performed her hand seals, the performance of the seals was swift and precise but Togi did not notice any particular difference in the way he performed his own seals. What Togi found particularly interesting however was how the nurse manipulated her chakra once it had entered the patient’s body. She first caused her chakra to change form becoming stiff and ridged in order to hold the pieces of bone in place and then the rest of her chakra she allowed to flow in like normal medical chakra though denser than when Togi had been treating cuts and lacerations.
 
”I believe I see how you are doing it…” Togi exclaimed and he really did see more so infact more so than an ordinary sighted person would. Togi then began to perform the handseals for the medical jutsu and quickly began to form medical chakra. ”Togi-san you may take over at your discretion…” the nurse then declared. Togi then reached out with chakra and directed it in to the Genin’s arm. With an intense about of focus and concentration Togi set about strengthening and straightening his chakra so that it acted as though it was solid and held the pieces of bone in place. This was perhaps the most complicated chakra manipulation that Togi had ever done to date though that ofcourse made sense considering that if Togi managed to master this jutsu it would be the highest rank jutsu the newly promoted genin would have in his repertoire.
 
”The bones are secure…” Togi exclaimed with a furrowed brow once he felt that his chakra was hard enough to hold the bone pieces in place and positioned correctly. The nurse nodded and released her jutsu and suddenly holding the bones where they were came a lot harder for the young Genin. Togi grimaced slightly but the young Genin forced himself to maintain the jutsu as he began directing and concentrating the flow of chakra in to the bone. The act of holding the bone in place and maintaining the flow of chakra was rather draining for Togi aswell as being mentally draining. Togi however kept the flow up as the bone slowly knit itself back together and kept it that way until the bone was back to being in one complete piece.
 
Sighing with relief Togi let the jutsu drop and took a step back.  ”Very good Togi-san but I think you should take a break now…” the nurse exclaimed. ”Thankyou sempai I think that I will…” Togi replied somewhat weakly before slumping down in to a nearby chair. ”I’ll just take a short break, I will only need a moment…” Togi declared before he quickly nodded off just where he was.
 
A short while later Togi stirred in his chair to find the sound of the nurse working nearby. Raising his hands up Togi quickly formed the Tiger seal and reactivated his chakra senses to find that the chakra signature of the nurse was just escorting out another patient. Getting to his feet Togi rolled his neck to loosen up the cramp that had formed from sleeping in such an awkward position and then turned to greet the nurse as she made her way back.
 
”Welcome back Togi-san you did very well with that broken bone though you need to work on the amount of chakra that you use, if you use that amount of chakra for too many procedures you could have ended up in chakra exhaustion…” the nurse exclaimed. Togi took on a thoughtful look as he considered this he had not realised he had been wasting chakra when performing the procedure though he was well aware of how much effort it took. ”I’d like to give it another go… “Togi exclaimed after a moment of thought.
 
”Well we have another patient on the list with a mild fracture, it should be much easier to fix than the first patient but should still be good practice” the nurse replied. Togi smiled and took a deep breath as he prepared himself while the patient was shown in. Togi focused on the patient with his chakra senses focussing in on the patient’s arms. With his senses activated Togi could see how the flow of chakra through the ninja’s arm was disrupted by the fracture. Running through the by now familiar hand seals Togi activated the medical jutsu once again. As the bone was only fractured and not broken it took Togi a lot less effort to hold the bone in place as he began to channel medical chakra in to the bone. Concentrating the medical chakra in to the bony structure still took a lot of effort but while doing this Togi was able to focus on the patients arm with his chakra senses and what he saw was that a lot of his chakra was leaking in to the flesh , skin and muscle of the bone and not where it was needed. This seemed to be why the first time Togi had performed the technique he had wasted a lot of chakra. ’I need to control the flow of chakra more and not just let it flow and diffuse out to wherever it wants to go…’ Togi thought to himself as he furrowed his brow in concentration. With renewed effort Togi focussed on redirecting the lose chakra back to where it was needed. Slowly and with some effort Togi achieved this and the fractured bone reformed itself.
 
”It’s done…” Togi declared with a satisfied smile as he took a step back ”your arm should be as good as new…” Togi then declared. ”Good job Togi-san and I see you are not as tired this time well done.” the nurse declared before showing the patient out.

With the fracture taken care of Togi fell back in to the routine that he had established earlier that morning, the nurse would call a patient in who was suffering from a minor injury, she would explain what happened and how they would treat the wound then she would get Togi to start producing the medical chakra and direct it over the wound to encourage the healing process. This continued for a couple of patients and Togi was rapidly feeling more confident with the use of medical chakra and he had begun to feel that he was actually making a difference in peoples lives no matter how small it was and that was filling the young ninja with a sense of pride.

Togi's routine however was just about to be disturbed as the mostly quietly atmosphere of the hospital was shattered by a loud booming voice. "Gah bloody stupid furnace... Stupid bloody thing!" a gruff masculine voice echoed down the corridor accompanied by the loud uneven stomping of bouts against the smooth hospital floor.

Instinctively Togi reached out with his chakra senses to see who was making all the commotion and straight away Togi detected a moderately sized chakra signature slowly making its way down the passageway. This person possessed some very dense chakra but what immediately caught Togi's attention was that the chakra on the surface on one entire side was incredibly erratic and in these erratic areas the chakra was fading and disappearing at an alarming rate. The young Hyuuga also noticed that one area that was particularly disrupted was the area that was around what would likely be his right eye. 'Could this be an injury that could cause blindness...' Togi thought while taking a nervous gulp and suppressing a shudder. 

"I think the person coming in is in need urgent need of help, I can sense massive damage to his chakra network and an injury to his eye..." Togi exclaimed in a somewhat soft voice surprising the nurse and earning a slightly confused look. "I am able to sense chakra from a long distance..." Togi exclaimed though he took on a puzzled look as he did so. 'I had presumed she must of been informed about my ability to sense chakra otherwise I am greatly surprised that she would have allowed a blind ninja to treat patients...' Togi thought to himself before a thought suddenly struck him. 'She knows I'm blind doesn't she... I know I don't move like the average blind person but I have been told on many occasions that it's rather disconcerting that I don't look at anything...' Togi thought to himself. "Oh right your a Hyuuga..." the nurse meanwhile declared as if that explained everything.

Togi's senses suddenly became aware that chakra signature was weakening as though the man was about to stumble and fall, make a snap decision the young Hyuuga burst out of the cubicle and raced towards the man. Togi had yet to realise by just how much his speed had increased recently with all the training he had been putting himself through but he managed to sprint across the waiting area leap over a chair and get to the man's side all before he fell down. Togi though soon found he had a problem while he speed might have been increasing significantly his strength had not kept up and when the man slumped although Togi caught him the young Hyuuga struggled to support the large man's weight. Fortunately for Togi the nurse was not far behind and between the two of them they were able to manauever the patient back to the cubicle and lay him down on to a bed.


The man was a mess and a lot worse than all the other patients that Togi had treated today, though Togi saw him as a mess of disrupted, chaotic and fading chakra what the nurse saw was a lot different.  Half of the man's body was red raw and covered in some serious burns that were perhaps third degree burns, on top of this there were a number of jagged pieces of metal that pierced the man's skin at random points a few of which were buried in the side of the man's face with one even piercing his eye.


"Togi-san I am going to need your help I won't be able to treat him alone and I don't know when one of the doctors will get here..." the nurse whispered as she slammed her hand on to a small seal that was placed on the wall and channelled her chakra in to it. Togi was not sure what this seal was for but he guessed or perhaps hoped that it was for summoning assistance.

"What do you need me to do?"  Togi questioned with a very serious tone though his senses remained focussed on the man and the massive damage to his chakra system. Togi doubted that with his current skill at medical jutsu he would be able to help the man but if he was just assisting the nurse hopefully the young woman would know what to do and he would be able to help in some small way.

"The patient has suffered severe and wide spread third degree burns, he needs to be treated quickly or he will be at serious risk..." The nurse began "I am not able to treat the entire right side of his body at once nor do I have the chakra to fully heal the damage that he has sustained. We are therefore going to have to work as a team Togi-san, I shall keep the vital organs alive with the mystic palm technique and I want you to focus on healing the man's skin to seal up the exposed flesh so that he has a chance of healing..." the nurse instructed. 

Togi gulped slightly nervous at just how serious the situation was becoming, when he had signed up to volunteer at the hospital he had not in his wildest dreams expected to be dealing with life and death situations so soon.

Togi however had little time to reflect on the situation as there was a life at stake and the nurse had already begun her jutsu. Wanting to know how the nurse was going to treat such a serious injury and eager to learn Togi intensely focussed his chakra senses as she performed her jutsu. Togi noted with great interest how the woman began with what seemed like an Ox hand seal though there were subtle differences which Togi automatically wondered if they were done on purpose. The next hand seal was one that Togi knew very well, it was the Tiger seal one that Togi routinely used to control the movement of his chakra and Togi noted that this was exactly what the nurse was using it for though instead of directing the movement of her own internal chakra she was directing the movement of medical chakra that was passed out of the body. Togi noted that unlike the medical chakra that was produced by his basic medical jutsu this chakra seemed far denser and far more potent. Togi watched as the medical chakra surged in to the heart, lungs  and other vital organs energising them and keeping them alive. Though Togi could have stood there studying the interaction of the medical chakra with the organs for hours but he had his own part to play. 

Bringing his hands together Togi quickly performed a short string of hand seal forming Boar then Rat then Snake as he moulded his chakra. The young Genin then began to emit a light green medical chakra from the palm of his hands. Moving his hands over the patients burnt body, Togi then let the chakra flow in to the burnt skin though the the patients body seemed to be like a bone dry desert and the amount of medical chakra that Togi was putting out seemed the equivalent of the amount of water released from a pipette. Togi kept the flow up for a good long while though the amount of healing that was actually occurring seemed minimal at best. 

Letting his focus wander slightly Togi checked on the amount of chakra the nurse was putting out and it was considerably more than he was doing, the vital organs still seemed perfectly healthy despite the state of the rest of the patients body. Togi then allowed his senses to wander to the nurse herself and Togi was alarmed to find that strength of the woman's chakra signature had dropped since the last time that he had focussed on her. Togi began to worry just how long she would be able to keep up the mystic palm technique and what would happen if the jutsu failed and Togi had yet to seal up the skin with his own jutsu.

After some careful thought Togi quickly came to the realisation that the his basic medical jutsu would not be enough to seal up the man's burns. The young Hyuuga instinctively knew that if he was going to help this man then he would have to take a big risk. Letting his gentle flow of medical chakra cease Togi took a deep breath and then brought his hands together. Concentrating on what the nurse had done with her chakra carefully manipulated his hands until he formed the modified Ox hand seal that the nurses had used. As far as hand seals was concerned that was the hard one and Togi quickly followed it up with a Tiger hand seal with relative ease. As soon as Togi had completed the hand seals he suddenly felt a pull on his chakra as his chakra began transform in to medical chakra and seek escape. It took a great amount of concentration and willpower to wrestle back control of his chakra and not just let it seep out in to the atmosphere and dissipate which would have been a complete waste of chakra. 

Gritting his teeth Togi pushed with all his might in order to concentrate his chakra just below the palms of his hands, strangely the action of forcing his chakra to do so almost made the rest of his chakra in his body feel like it was hitting up but it seemed to be working. Ignoring the discomfort that he was currently feeling throughout his entire body the young Hyuuga slowly released the hold of his own chakra letting the concentrated medical chakra flow out and wash over the patient's badly burnt leg. Unlike the chakra that was released from the basic medical jutsu the chakra from the mystic palm technique instantly seemed to have an effect. From Togi's point of view the medical chakra was instantly mixing with the patients own chakra at the peripheries before the once disturbed and chaotic chakra returned to a stable form. To a normally sighted person this appeared as the bright red burnt flesh fading back to a much more healthy looking colour as medical chakra washed over it before new skin slowly began to regrow. 

Togi gave a slightly tired but satisfied smile as he noticed that he was finally making a difference, what he did not notice however was that the nurse was giving him a nervous look. The mystic Palm technique was a very advanced technique that was beyond most Genin and dangerous for them to use due to the risk of chakra exhaustion. The nurse had not expected Togi to copy the jutsu that she had used and had expected even less for the young Hyuuga to be able to successfully perform the jutsu. Now that Togi seemed to be performing the just she did not have the will to stop him for she knew that she could not keep her own jutsu up much longer and if it failed the patient would likely go in to shock possibly leading to cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure.

Togi meanwhile was slowly moving his jutsu up from the patient's lower, up the leg, across the torso and slowly towards the patient's face. As he went the red flesh beneath his hand slowly faded back to normal colour before fresh skin popped up sealing off the wound. From Togi's point of view this whole procedure seemed to take an eternity but eventually all the skin on the man's arm, leg and chest had been regrown. At this point however Togi's jutsu abruptly cut out and he gasped in surprise. Togi quickly brought his hands back together but was interrupted by the nurse's voice.

"It's ok Togi-san you have done enough, he is now stable enough that I can safely stop supporting his organs" the nurse declared as she too stopped her jutsu and took a break before she exhausted herself.

Taking a short break Togi slowed and controlled his breathing in a sort of semi meditative state in an effort to regain some energy and regenerate some of the chakra he had spent on healing the man's wounds. This had been without a doubt the most chakra Togi had ever spent in such a short amount of time and unbeknown to the young Hyuuga as he had channeled such a large amount of chakra his eyes had changed. The usual lifeless and dull cloudy grey orbs had become jet black and as dark as the read of night. Now that Togi was no longer channeling chakra his eyes were slowly returning back to normal and fading back to their usual grey though they were still currently a few shades darker than normal.

Togi meanwhile had started to wonder where all the doctors were, surely it was not normal for one nurse to be looking after so many patients was it? And surely the seal that the nurse had chanelled chakra through was meant to summon aid so where were they?

Togi's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of the patient stirring. Togi could not 'see' what was going on as he currently had deactivated his chakra senses inorder to conserve and allow his body to regenerate chakra but Togi could definitely hear the tell tell signs of the man waking up.

Since he had collapsed the man had been unconscious which was actually a blessing in disguise as it made him easier to treat but now that much of the damage had been repaired he seemed to be returning to the waking world.

"Eurghhh bloody furnace Damm near took my face off..." the man groaned as he returned to consciousness.

"Try not to move you still have a number of wounds that we have yet to treat..." the nurse cut in. Togi however could not help his curiosity about what had happened after seeing the severity of the wounds and quietly asked a question. "Excuse me sir but could you tell us what happens?" the young Hyuuga asked politely.

"Yeah sure thing young man..." the man grunted out. "I was workin' in me forge, workin' on a few special weapons when me bloody furnace up and exploded on me!" the man revealed. "Bloody thing blew up in my face it did, there were Damm flames everywhere. Could smell me own flesh burning... smelt strangely like pork you know... I smelt delicious if I do say myself..." the man declared with a laugh before the laugh rapidly turned in to a grown of pain as the laughing jiggled about a number of the pieces of shrapnel that were still sticking out of his body. 'Who knew furnaces could be so dangerous I would have thought a jutsu had done this...' Togi thought to himself before starting to worry as the man began to groan in pain.

"Ok hold still we need to finish your treatment..." the nurse cut in once again as she lightly placed her hand on the man's chest and held him down.

Hearing that treatment was about to start up again Togi brought has hands back together forming the Tiger hand seal and pulsed his chakra restoring his chakra vision.

"Ok were going to need to remove the pieces of shrapnel before we can finishing healing the skin do what we are going to do is one by one remove the pieces of metal and then heal the wound" the nurse explained. "Togi-san I am low on chakra so I am going to need you to do this..." the nurse then whispered to the young Hyuuga causing Togi to gulp slightly in apprehension.

"Now I'm going to use an anaesthetic jutsu so he doesn't feel any pain while we remove the shrapnel" the nurse than added. "Togi-san I will teach you how to perform this jutsu later..."

Although the nurse had promised to teach him the jutsu later Togi decided to observe her closely as she performed the jutsu now. The more he knew about medical jutsu and the sooner he knew it the better as far as Togi was concerned. Focusing close on the nurse Togi studied every movement that she made and how she manipulated her chakra and stored that information away for later use. The jutsu seemed to be fairly straightforward and consisted of only three hand seals. Hare followed by Ox followed by Monkey. What Togi found interesting however was how the woman's chakra responded to these seals. The chakra seemed to transform in to to small flames that danced on the woman's fingertips. Togi however could easily tell that this was not a fire based ninjutsu and though the chakra had a flame like appearances it was not fire nor did it likely have any heat to it.

What came next also surprised the young Hyuuga as the nurse suddenly jabbed her hand in to the man's chest burying the chakra flames in to the man's chest. Togi's chakra sight however could see exactly what was going on, chakra was being injected directly from the woman's fingertips where it then raced down towards the man's spine and from there the chakra spread out along the man's nervous system like a spark of electricity following the wires in a circuit. In response the man seemed to instantly sigh in relief as his body relaxed somewhat.

"Ok Togi-san we are ready for you, you may begin..." the nurse declared cutting short the young Hyuuga's studying of the anaesthetic jutsu. Taking a deep breath Togi brought his hands together and formed the Ox hand seal followed by the Tiger hand seal as he moulded his chakra. Unlike last time when he had felt a sudden tug upon his chakra this time Togi felt absolutely nothing and nothing at all seemed to be happening either. 'What did I do wrong? Why is it not working?'' Togi thought to himself as he wracked his brain.  Trying again Togi formed the Ox and Tiger hand seals and once again nothing happened. 'Was it just luck that I was able to perform it the first time?' Togi thought to himself with a small amount of concern.

"Modified Ox..." the nurse whispered seeing the trouble that the young was having with the hand seals for the mystic palm technique. Once that said Togi could have slapped him self in the forehead, it had not been that long ago since he had observed the nurse use the hand seals and he had watched her like a hawk, how could he have possibly already forgotten that it was not the ordinary Ox hand seal. Concentrating Togi struggled to remember every single detail of how that hand seal had been different and how both the nurses chakra had acted when she used it aswell as how his own chakra had acted when he had mimicked her. 'Ok I think I can picture the Ox hand seal perfectly and I know what to do with the tiger hand seal...' Togi thought to himself as he carefully lined up his fingers and channeled his chakra. 

Togi once again felt a powerful tug upon his chakra as his chakra attempted to get away from him and escape in to the atmosphere, Togi however resisted and fought to keep the chakra at the palm of his hand. With the medical chakra pooling in one hand Togi sensed the nurse give him a subtle nod. Taking a deep breath Togi then reached out with his other hand then using just his thumb and index finger Togi took a hold of a piece of shrapnel in the man's leg. Without even realising it Togi then held his breath in anticipation as he pulled in one swift motion and plucked the jagged piece of metal out if the man's leg. The man however did not even flinch in the slightest as though he didn't feel a thing which after all was the reason the nurse was currently performing the anaesthetic jutsu.

With the piece of shrapnel gone a gaping wound was left in the nan's leg which rapidly began to ooze with blood. Fortunately Togi could not see this gruesome sight but Togi's chakra senses could detect the disruption in the man's chakra caused by the wound. Togi however did not leave the wound untreated for long and quickly moved his chakra filled hand over the wound before slowly and carefully releasing his hold upon some of the chakra. The medical chakra then instantly rushed in to the wound and mixed with the man's own chakra causing the wound to quickly heal up and seal over. Confidence bolstered by this success Togi dropped the piece of removed shrapnel on a nearby table before moving on to the next piece. Togi once again carefully grasped a piece of shrapnel and pulled it free, quickly moving his other hand over wound Togi again allowed his chakra to wash over the wound encouraging it to completely heal backup. Togi continued in this way removing the pieces of shrapnel one by one until the patients legs and torso were free of shrapnel and there was a small pile of metal pieces on the table. This left only three pieces of shrapnel in the man's body, two of these were in his face while the third was piercing the man's eye. By this point Togi was once again feeling the physical and mental fatigue of keeping the chakra flow up for so long.

Togi felt a little nervous about touching the pieces of shrapnel that were close to or actually piercing the eye... while the burnt skin and pierced flesh had been fairly straightforward to mend, the eye however was a much more complicated structure and one mistake while healing the eye could cause it to heal wrong which could cause blindness and if there was one thing that Togi did not want to do was cause blindness in another person. Togi though hesitant was just about to reach for one of the remaining pieces of shrapnel when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Good job son but I can take it from here. Why don't you take a break you look exhausted" A deep masculine voice declared. It seemed that one of the doctors had finally answered the nurses call. Sighing with relief Togi released the hold of his jutsu and let the chakra flow to his hand come to a natural stop. "All yours doctor-sama" Togi declared taking a step back. 

Instead of taking a break or a rest as the doctor suggested Togi instead focussed on the man and what he was about to do wanting to see how the man performed his jutsu. The man quickly formed the modified Ox and Tiger seal a lot quicker than either the nurse or Togi had done. Togi focused in with his chakra senses studying down to the finest detail how the doctor was manipulating his chakra taking note of the differences between how he and how the doctor had performed the jutsu. Togi then watched as the doctor began to channel his chakra in to the shrapnel wound BEFORE he pulled the shrapnel free aswell as during and after resulting in a wound that sealed up much more quickly. It was in this way that the doctor seemed to maintain the structure of the eye as he pulled the shrapnel free so that when he did heal it everything was in the correct place.

After watching the doctor perform the jutsu Togi thought he had a better idea of how the jutsu could be used to heal delicate structures though he was not so sure if he was ready to do it himself yet.

"Come on Togi-san you've earned a break..." A tired sounding nurse declared once the patient had been fully healed and sent to a room for monitoring. Togi had to admit the prospect of a break or even a nap sounded pretty good right about now. Healing that last patient had been incredibly draining though the young Hyuuga was pleased that he had not only made a difference in another persons life but he had also learnt an important new skill that could be incredibly useful in the future.


Togi however merely nodded in response, it was not something he did often given that he was blind and it was therefore something he himself could not usually see but he was currently feeling so low on energy that he could not muster the effort to speak a single word more than he had to. The nurse did not seem to care however and silently lead him down a couple of corridors before coming to a plain nondescript door. The nurse then placed her hand upon a hidden seal... Well hidden to most, to someone like Togi who could see chakra the seal was positively glowing... The lock then clicked open and with a gentle push the door swung open.


The room beyond was what appeared to be a simple staff room filled with chairs, a simple table and a small kitchen area to the side. The woman waved her hand to indicate that Togi should take a seat before she shuffled over to the kitchen area and began to boil some water.


Togi obediently complied and made his way over to one of the chairs, the chair itself was old and not in the best of condition but with the way that Togi was currently feeling it felt like heaven to slump down in to it. The young Hyuuga then turned to the nurse and gave her a questioning look... well as questioning look as he could manage considering his eyes always looked somewhat blank.


"You've expended a lot of chakra today, we need to get some food inside you so you can start to replenish your chakra reserves..." the nurse explained as she pulled out two plastic cups of instant ramen. "Ahh..." Togi replied barely going as far as to form a word. The nurse then finished making the ramen and placed it down in front of the young Hyuuga. Togi offered the young woman a smile in response though he waited for the ramen to cool before tucking in.


After he had tucked in to the ramen, quickly polishing it off with slightly less then his usual refined dinner etiquette Togi sat back and relaxed. Having some food inside his stomach had indeed made Togi feel a lot better so much so that his brain felt energised enough to go over all the information he had learnt that day. 


"Seya-san do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions about the jutsu that you used today?" Togi asked softly after a while of silence.


"Ofcourse you can Togi-san what did you want to know? Oh and that reminds me..." the young woman replied as she went to a cupboard and retrieved a small set of scrolls. "These scrolls contain a few of the common jutsu used in the hospital..." the nurse declared as she laid them out infront of the boy. 


"Oh wow Thankyou Seya-san these will most likely answer most of the questions that I had but I was going to ask you about the anaesthetic jutsu as it was the only one that I didn't get a chance to try..." the young Hyuuga declared as he picked up one of the scrolls to investigate intrigued by the fact that they were giving off a faint chakra glow. 


"Ah yes the chakra Anaesthetic jutsu, you should have that scroll somewhere... it's a straightforward but invaluable jutsu that uses the Hare, Ox and monkey hand seal the young nurse declared." the nurse declared. 


"I noticed that you pooled your chakra at your finger tips and then injected it in to the body and then your chakra seemed to move to the nerves..." Togi exclaimed as he thought back to what he had observed when he saw the jutsu performed.


"Well observed..." the nurse exclaimed in surprise "Yes the aim of the jutsu is to coat the nerves and block off the pain receptors." the nurse replied.


"Ah I see so we are using out chakra to block the nerve impulses that transmit the sensation of pain to the brain..." Togi declared taking on a thoughtful look. Togi then reached forwards and picked up one of the scrolls and was surprised to find that the scrolls had been written in chakra laced ink that was visible to his senses. It took only a little bit of shuffling of papers and Togi soon had the jutsu scroll for the chakra anaesthetic open on his lap. Togi automatically quickly began to read through the scroll and hardly noticed that he had subconsciously begun to run through the hand seals. Hare, Ox, Monkey the young Hyuuga's hand to began to repeatedly form though without any chakra being applied.


Realising that nurse Seya had not attempted to stop him from practicing the jutsu in the staff room Togi shrugged his shoulders and performed the hand seals once again though this time he moulded and applied his chakra. Once the hand seals were complete Togi held out his right hand and sure enough tiny little chakra flames had formed on the tip of his fingers. The strange thing was however that instead of five uniformly sized and almost identical flames like the nurse had formed Togi had one large flame on his index finger, a slightly smaller flame on his middle finger and positively tiny ones on the rest. 


'Hmmm that's not right I must need to evenly distribute the chakra to each of my fingers it currently seems to be building up in larger amount in my more dominant fingers...' Togi thought to himself after seeing his performance of the jutsu. Frowning slightly Togi let the jutsu drop and fingertip flames quickly faded away. Forming the required hand seas once again Togi tried for the second time, this time when the flames appeared they seemed of a more uniformed size though they were not identical. Satisfied that it that it was good enough for now Togi kept the jutsu active and just sat their focussing on the chakra flames with his senses in an effort to learn as much about them as possible and how they behaved.


Togi sat there studying the flames for so long he hardly noticed when the nurse left the room and he was in the staff room all on his own. When Togi finally came out of his transfixed state the young Hyuuga decided it was time to test out the jutsu but that he was completely alone there was only one possible test subject and that was himself...


Cautiously reaching out Togi very carefully placed the tips of his fingers upon the top of his thighs and allowed the chakra from the flames to flow in to his leg. At first the chakra seemed to want to go everywhere and spread out but after focussing with his mind Togi was able to direct the chakra to his nerves. Togi then directed the chakra to coat the length of the nerve, this action felt very different to when he had lined the edge of a bone with a basic medical jutsu in order to secure it in place and infact Togi did not even attempt to the chakra solid or ridged in the slightest. Keeping the jutsu active Togi reached out and poked the lower part of his leg with his other hand. Much to Togi's disappointment when he did this he felt the poke mostly just as normal. There might have been a slight numbing sensation but Togi had felt more from just sitting in one location for some time.


Deactivating the jutsu Togi took a moment to think. From what he had observed he was doing the jutsu correctly but it was not having the desired effect. Thinking back to what he knew about how nerves worked he considered what he could be doing wrong. Nerves send messages through the body by transmitting electrochemical signals and in order for these messages to reach the brain the message had to pass a number of nerves synapses. If he could just use his chakra to block the signal from getting across the synapses then perhaps he would be able to block the feeling of pain.


Trying once again Togi quickly formed the three hand seals and channelled his chakra. This time it was much easier to control the flow of chakra so that when the flames appeared upon his finger they were all roughly the same size. 'So far so good...' Togi thought to himself as he once again reached out and lightly placed his finger tips upon his leg. This time instead of spreading out his chakra across the entire nerve attempted to accumulate it at the synapses. Togi then slowly reached out with his other hand and poked his leg. To his pleasant surprise he did not feel anything. Pleased with this Togi poked his leg once again though this time a bit harder.


"Yazzah!" Togi cried when he still didn't feel a thing excited by his success before quickly realising that he was still in the hospital and shouting was not appropriate. 


A few moments later a head poked it's way through the door. "Ah Togi-san are you still here?" the receptionist exclaimed. "Nurse Seya wanted me to tell you that she has finished her shift and she hopes to work with you again some time" the receptionist informed the new Genin. "Oh Thankyou..." Togi then replied quietly. "She also told me that you should keep hold of the scrolls and she'd like to see what you've learnt the next time you see her" the receptionist added "Well I'll let you pack away your things" the receptionist then declared before leaving the room. 


Togi smiled to himself rather pleased with the haul that he had just obtained before he carefully began to roll up the scrolls. With all the scrolls secured Togi then made sure all the ramen cups had been thrown away and all the cutlery washed. Once the staff room was in what Togi considered a respectable state the young ninja quietly slipped out the room before heading back down the corridor he had come down earlier. As he passed the reception Togi waved good bye. "Do come again soon dear..." he heard the receptionist call after him.

"Don't worry I will be sure to..." Togi called back meaning every word of it. He was finally feeling like he was making a difference and he had also learnt a hell of a lot today though he hoped to get some time to study the jutsu scrolls that he had borrowed before he came back to volounteer once again.
