The gennin exam
Sakana Meijin had taken his sensei’s words to heart he took 5 days’ rest but then practiced for two days straight mastering his techniques. He woke up this morning excited knowing today was ‘the day,’ the day where he finally becomes a ninja. He was so excited he talked to Kaigo for an hour about the exam before he left the house. When he got to class he took his seat in the front of the room to wait for the exam proctor. He was sure he was ready. Sakana Meijin was going to become a hidden cloud ninja at last.

"Alright, Shoujirou, you're up first," Akihana called out as the first genin stepepd up to the mark, piratically buzzing to go. At the count of three, the newly minted genin let out a stream of fire that was neat in form and didn't hinder his breathing, but it also didn't make it two feet past his thin frame. He was supposed to reach the target ten feet apposite but his range clearly needed improvement. Akihana made a note on her clipboard before congratulating him on a good attempt and encouraging him to try again.
"Shanti, you're up next," the blonde called out, watching the girl walk unsteadily up to the mark. Akihana had been trying to guide the girl gently into accepting her fire chakra and from the looks of the small Genin, she still had a lot of work to do. Akihana wasn't expecting much as the child drew breath, only to be surprised at the short blast that erupted from Shanti's mouth, leaving the child gagging where she stood. Putting her clipboard away, Akihana rushed to the girl's side.
"Shanti, calm down, don't flail," the blonde instructed, trying to stop the Genin's thrashing, the more she coughed and choked, the worse it would be. Calming the child down, Akihana applied basic medical ninjutsu to heal her clogged throat before helping her up on her feet.
"That was good, Shanti," the medic stated kindly. "But you were focusing on power. You were supposed to make it go far, not go big. For your fire to be effective, it needs to reach its mark, there's no point in a huge blast that fizzles out before making it halfway and ends up hurting you."
To demonstrate, Akihana stood where the girl previously had, looking at the target set out. "Alright guys, I'm going to try and hit the target in two ways, and your work for today is to go home and figure out which is more effective. Remember, there are no wrong answers." With that, the kunoichi first drew in a quick breath, expelling it out in a thin line of flame that dashed across the ten feet to land dead center on the target, leaving a small char mark where it had made contact. A small round of applause broke out from some of the students but it was quickly silenced as she attempted the same feat in a second way.
The blast of fire that erupted from Akihana landed around the target rather than on it, catching the thing on fire from the ages and slowly burning inwards. In a few seconds, the ring of fire had shrunk to circle the first mark left on the board.
"As you can see, both ways managed to hit the target, but differently. It's your job to go home and figure out which way is your way before attempting this again, okay?" The students murmured at being dismissed in such a way but listened regardless. Wishing them a quick farewell, the kunoichi made her way inside the building once more collecting her papers for the genin exams she had to proctor that day. Oddly enough, only one student was attempting the exam.
When she entered, teh student was already there. "Good morning," she greeted the boy kindly. "Sakana right? Well, looks like you're the only one today. Please step up and demonstrate the clone and transformation technique. Also list one non Coimbatore use for each of them. You may take as much time as you need to get ready." The blonde smiled at the young man, making him feel as comfortable as she could.

Re: Sakana's gennin exam

Sakana looked at this woman. He really didn’t know what to think of her. But he knows if he doesn’t stop and focus on his task that he won’t become a gennin. Everything he worked so hard for would be worthless. He closed his eyes and pushed out the million thoughts that confused him. He was thinking about his life and what would happen if failed. The thought was terrifying to him. He would be too ashamed to try again. Sakana would go work at Kaigo’s restaurant, being a delivery boy that would never amount to everything but he wanted to fulfil his dream. Sakana also remembered all of his time thinking about this day but in all the scenarios, he thought of, none of them ever started like this. He was almost there he could feel himself getting focused.
Once his mind was clear he opened his eyes. Sakana now tried to remember what the female instructor said. He remembered, first he had to do clone jutsu. He had done this jutsu over one thousand times in practice for this day. One thousand times without error that was. If he ever messed up he started over, and he messed up, a few times. But there was no messing up this time this was his moment. He visualized his clone in his mind. He started the hand signs, “Tiger” he said aloud to show his confidence. “Boar” he was getting more and more confidant as his went on. “Ox” he was so close now one more, this is literally fifty percent of his exam. He made that last final hand sign, the dog hand sign. After that was completed he shouted “Clone Jutsu.” Did he do it? Did it work? Did he totally flop? Time seemed slowed for him. He didn’t want to turn his head but he knew he had to. So he looked next to him and was amazed at what he saw. Everything was exactly in detail with his own body. This was the best clone he had ever made. He was proud of himself. But he knew his task was not over. He still had to do the transformation jutsu.
This whole experience was bringing back his memories of learning these jutsu, all those emotions were rushing back into him. Somehow he felt stronger. Remembering all those times he messed up the jutsu, how he practiced it over and over till there was no visible flaws. Through his training Sakana realized something very important. He can practice for as long as he wants but he will never achieve his goal until his mentality changed. He changed his mentality to make himself think he will never fail. Failure is not an option. He now thought as every move as flawless, and if it wasn’t no one would be able to tell. Sakana looked at his exam proctor. He smiled, hoping he was doing well. He got into a ready stance as he does every single time before a jutsu. He visualized the hand signs in his head for the transformation jutsu. It was Dog, Boar and Ram. Sakana struggled to move. He was starting to freeze. No… He couldn’t freeze he had to keep going. “Dog,” he shouted making the hand sign. “Boar,” he became more confident very second. He knew his exam was almost over. So, he put all his power into this. “Ram,” he did it. He turned into his instructor. He looked exactly like her from the color of her hair to the shape of her shoes. He perfectly captured all her physical features and even her body type. He jumped in the air and shouted “I did it!” He turned back into himself as he hit the ground. Sakana thought the mission was over. Did he pass? Oh, wait he remember his exam proctor asked him to answer a question as well. One non combative use for each jutsu.
Sakana walked up to his instructor. “Hello Miss.” He couldn’t tell what she was thinking. But he knew he just had to speak a few more sentences and this exam would finally be over. He would finally be a gennin. He thought about the question she asked him. Sakana didn’t know if his answer would please her but it is the truth. “A non Combative use for the clone jutsu would be getting out of a conversation you don’t really want to be involved in.” One down, one more to go. “And… A non Combative use for the clone jutsu would be tricking enemies into giving up important information, this combined with the voice mimicry technique I hope to learn soon would lead to the perfect disguise.” There he said it, this exam was over. He took a step back from his exam proctor and awaited her response.

"Very well done," she praised when he finished. "I am delighted to inform you that you pass with flying colors." Reaching for a brand new Kumogalure headband, the blonde handed it to the young man with a bright smile."
"I have every confidence that you will make Kumogakure and the Raikage proud. You may collect your new uniform from the front desk and get all the details regarding your missions from the mission counter. I wish you luck."
