Homecoming Empty Homecoming

Komon’s black hair would sway to side as the infamous winds of tornado country blew through the warzone, sending the scent of death in all directions for miles to come. The battle had drawn to a close a couple hours ago. The enemy had fought hard, but eventually they broke… Komon himself sat alone on a pile of rubble outside of the daimyo’s palace, his eyes set not on the raising flag of kumogakure but on the dozens of slowly decaying bodies scattered across the battleground.

Glancing along the horizon he saw many of them, none of them carrying much impact. He hadn’t known them, and he considered himself lucky to not be one of them. Sam had been a more than capable opponent and that battle could have ended in an infinite amount of ways. But other than that he really didn’t feel anything from the sight. Even when his eyes settled on the boy he had been interacting with beforehand, his limp body hanging from a pillar of stone, he felt little more than faint disappointment.

“So this is War”

The Hyuuga was slightly surprised by his seeming lack of any kind of response to the situation… Surely he should be sorrowful, or mad. Or prideful in his victory… But he just felt empty at the moment. Looking down to his blood covered hands he’d wonder how he turned into this. There was a point in time where he would have turned his nose at even the thought of killing. He had only ever wanted to be strong so that he could protect his brother but as time went on he was realizing it was becoming harder and harder to do that while maintaining his morality.

He’d let out an audible sigh as he lowered his hands back onto his knee and shifted his gaze to the now blooming sun, the rays coming down to shine light on blood soaked battle ground. “How did I get like this” the Hyuuga boy would mutter. Remembering the child who had wanted nothing more than to be strong, and comparing him to the man who had just launched a sword through a stranger’s chest without a second thought startled him to say the least, and for a good reason.

He thought back to his first kills, the two twins from his second chuunin exam. Most people only have a first kill, but Komon wasn’t so lucky… Youka had indulged him in a nightmare, a course that had scarred him. Five kills, two twins, a little girl, An unwilling human puppet bound in barbed wire, and a toddler who had been the puppeteer. With that killcount on his hands, maybe it was impossible to be morally right… Maybe he was the villain in this story. Looking at the battlefield in front of him it certainly seemed that way.

Maybe Hitori had been right, maybe this war was going to turn him into something he never wanted to become. He had ignored the boy, thinking he had known better… He was so confident that he was right, that he could handle the toll. But as the days went on the weight on his shoulders would grow exponentially. Every territory he conquered submitted more and more innocent people to youka’s malicious rule.
“This is wrong” He’d think to himself as he picked himself up off of the rubble and onto his feet “...But I don’t care?” The thought confused him, for a while.. But he soon came to the simple realization that he cared about his and his brothers life more than these strangers. It was a dark realization but the only possible explanation as to why he had gone so far for this Maku figure. As much as he’d love to ponder his own life choices, He had a mission to do, and was needed back in Kumogakure as soon as possible. It seemed he would never rest as this war raged on, and that when one battle ended he’d be called immediately to another. At least this time he’d have a familiar face alongside him.

His head would swivel to find the leaving party, he wasn’t the only one going home. There were dozens of injured shinobi that needed more medical attention then the medical shinobi on site could provide. In fact this battlefield would be sending about 29 men back to the village gates to heal their wounded. Very few of them able to Walk, and since Komon was already supposed to be heading in that general direction he had offered to assist them, as his birds could carry the weight of several grown men.

Some time would pass before the group gathered and they made their way out of the ransacked palace and onto the dirt road back to kumogakure. As their feet moved in unison Komon would think about the telepathic message Senshi had sent him earlier that day. A beast larger than the one the four of them had slain sounded ridiculously strong and dangerous, and this time… There would be only two of them as opposed to the four from before. Hopefully Senshi had been doing a bit more training since they had last left. They were going to need the skill of a Jounin to pull this off if the beast lived up to its rumors.

He wondered if he’d have any time to rest before the two of them set out for this thing. Senshi had mentioned another Hyuuga in the village and he was hoping to teach the boy a few things if he got the chance. The only other Hyuuga he had ever met was Yugure, and that kid seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth, It would nice to meet another member of his clan. Although there was really no use in worrying about it now, he’d have no way of knowing until he reached the gates. And he had a long journey ahead of him before he reached that destination.
