There's Always Someone Stronger (P, NK, IO)

Valen would be alone in the training field practicing his sword katas as he moved through the mid morning of the day. The sun was high in the sky and the heat was barreling down on everyone. It was a particularly hot day today, as it could sometimes be when your village was in the bloody damned desert. That was beside the point though, he was here to train and to try and improve himself in combat. Not complain about where people decided to put a ninja village. Valen’s sword would be out of it’s sheathe of course, held within both hands as he moved through his katas to try and get into the mind set he needed to be in. He wanted to be relaxed, and at one with himself. He might even get to that point as well, ‘Hey, wanna go kill those people on the lake?’. Provided a certain sentient sword would shut the hell up. Valen would sigh as the blade invaded his thoughts again, trying to drive him absolutely mad it seemed. ‘No, we will not be going to murder the people on the lake, in my own village. Now shut up.’ He’d respond mentally. This of course would cause a momentary lapse in his katas since his focus turned internal. It couldn’t be helped, he’d just have to restart that particular set.
As he sheathed his sword to begin again he’d hear the voice again ‘Please? I promise, no more after them I swear!’ The sword would say again, the edges of humour on his voice as he was trying desperately to piss Valen the hell off. Our crimson garbed shinobi took a deep breath ‘If you don’t stop I’ll go back to that cavern and put you back. I’m getting strong enough that I don’t NEED you anymore. Now I suggest you shut up and let me focus on my training.’ He’d respond, knowing full well that the sword would probably stay buried for another few hundred years if he did that. The blade would of course shut right the hell on up, disappearing into the confines of Valen’s mind to leave the teenager to focus. This would provide Valen with the peace and quiet he had wanted. So he’d draw his blade and begin his katas once more. Moving his body in increasingly difficult and speedy katas. As he did this he’d divert a bit of focus into his curse mark, working to increase his proficiency in using the powerful seal so that he could utilize it’s power better in combat. Due to his focus on it he’d slow feel the marks spread out from the seal in the bright, yet sickening orange coloured patterns before settling halfway across his body as black magatama marks that were chained together constantly.
