Idyll (Maku) Empty Idyll (Maku)

Mon Sep 16, 2019 6:29 pm
After having met Denkiteki and having would could only be loosely defined as conversation, the Kunoichi had helped offered to help her friend with the continuation of his practice until sunset. There were a thousand more things she wanted to say to the taller Hayato but not enough time to say them so instead Akihana had done what she always did. Whenever here was a line of patients waiting to be healed from some form of injury or ailment, she had rolled up her sleeves and offered to help. Not at all willing to exercise her probably rusty chakra on unsuspecting patients, the blonde had instead taken on the nursing and administrative duties of the makeshift clinic, organizing people into groups and noting down symptoms before ushering them to go on towards the doctor they had come to see. the woman received a few odd looks from Den's regulars but for the most part, her presence went unquestioned. It seemed the people here admired Den too much to raise any problems with a colleague he may have hired.

No incident such as that of the angry man before made a repeat. In fact, Akihana's presence calmed the patience somewhat, allowing them to approach the doctor with a clear mind and positive outlook. After the first half an hour, the kunoichi fell into a natural rhythm, dedicating herself to what she did best - looking after others. A few hours passed until the last patient left and then it was time to go home. To Den and Maku's home anyway. Only a few hours in the former space time user's company were enough for Akihana to gauge that he wasn't as helpless as he looked. She wasn't surprised really, he may be blind but he was still Den. Regardless she had taken his hand to guide him home, both to keep up the pretense as well as for her own sake. She needed the comfort and guidance far more than he did.

Maku had been good on his word, she noted as they climbed up the stairs above the restaurant and entered the living room, her golden gaze falling on the couch where a pillow and blanket haphazardly lay. Though the younger brother was nowhere to be found (or rather, nowhere in the apartment, she distinctly heard shouting from the kitchen downstairs), he had indeed made his bed on the sofa, leaving his room to her.

Akihana entered Maku's bedroom on light footsteps, almost expecting someone to jump out and call her an intruder. No one did though, and she entered the area properly, taking in what could kindly be put as a unique system of organization. And of course she refused to describe it any other way. Taking in the mess of tangled clothes which were somehow stored in the desk drawers while various boxes labelled with words like "stuff", "more stuff" and "other stuff" hung from round hangers in the closet, the blonde decided she would tackle that later. Instead, the witch only removed ehr cape, folding it into the smallest square possible and placing it precariously on the edge of Maku's bed, still too afraid to take up more space in the world she found herself occupying.

Next up on her agenda were the dishes from her earlier omelette making. He had ushered her out so fast, neither had done the washing up, a fact she remedied now in the kitchen, running the pans, plates and utensils through hot, soapy water and scrubbing them clean. Her own omelette which had remained uneaten was stored in the fridge for now in hopes that it would eventually be used in something again. The habits of a once financially strained mother weren't easy to shed, and with every second her old personality was coming back, becoming more and more solid as if an apparition morphing into reality.

The thought might have been comforting had she not been a Genjutsu user once proficient in Light release. Reality never lasted long, and was always on the brink of shattering.

Once done with the dishes, it didn't seem right to just stop to the blonde found herself cleaning the whole sink, the tap, the drying racks and then moving on to the counter tops. It was just as she was contemplating scrubbing and cleaning out the pantry and kitchen cabinets that seh heard someone coming up the stairs. Heard, she convinced herself forcefully, not felt the return of a chakra she had no right feeling.

Dinner that night consisted of Maku bringing up food form the restaurant and spending most of the meal being the only one talking, beguiling the two of his adventures of the day. Akihana was secretly grateful, she and Den had never been great conversationalists and they were both amendable to give Maku the attention he demanded by virtue of being in the same room with others. After dinner, Den retreated to his room and Maku to take a shower, leaving her to once again hesitantly enter the living space she had been allotted. The woman was absolutely certain she would not sleep but it seemed rude to not try. Of course, trying in itself lead to more problems than she had initially estimated. She had nothing to change into. Waiting for Maku to return from his shower, she had awkwardly expressed the problem in as few words as possible. Fortunately he seem to understand her without her having the need to be coherent, tossing a few items of clothing her way before calling it a night.

Akihana had been right in estimating she wouldn't be able to sleep. the first night she was even too afraid of the bed, choosing instead to curl up in an armchair that matched no single decorative aspect of the room. Hurdled in Maku's clothes and hearing his snores through the slightly open door of the bedroom, the golden eyed Akari simply stared out into the semi darkness, unsure what to do next. Hours passed, the sky outside her window turning from ink dark to fog grey to deep pink to blazing orange as the sun finally languished its way over the little village. All night long, Akihana had noted that the sounds outside their apartment never truly died, there as always soemthing going on in the streets outside at any given time, but the noise level certainly rose with the rising of the day.

Sternly talking herself out of her chair, the kunoichi slowly crept across the room and to the door where Maku's snores continued. Taking a advantage of the fact that both brothers were asleep, she made her way to the bathroom, only to realize that cone again she was out of some very basic necessities. Akihana also noticed that the room was not exactly in perfect order and the next half hour was spent rectifying that. When she was through, the small bathroom smelled strongly of bleach and floor cleaners and every surface near gleamed. Just as she was walking out after a job well done, Maku appeared at the doorway to his bedroom, a less than pleased expression on his face. Had he been looking for something?

"I'm just off to make breakfast, go wash up," she attempted halfheartedly because good cheer was something the kunoichi refused to fake. Faking something was just like lying and lies didn't lead to anything good. Akihana busied herself in the kitchen, now familiar with the area due to her intense cleaning session yesterday. They had all the ingredients for French toast so that was what she decided on. By the time a stack of perfectly crafted french Toasts were on the table, Den too had awakened and was ready to eat.

The shorter brother left soon after breakfast, and not without much explanation as was his way. Den however explained he was returning to the makeshift clinic, asked if she would be okay by herself in the apartment and then after reassuring her that both brothers were within easy reach, left himself. Finding herself alone in the brothers living space once more, Akihana returned to what she knew best: she cleaned.

She started with the kitchen since it was almost half done anyway, reorganizing the pantry, clearing out cabinets and then restocking them in some form of order. It was clear from the way the ingredients were marked, stored and in some cases, precariously stacked like a Jenga tower that Maku had the run of the kitchen in the home. Though the pace hand't been dirty to begin with, after Akihana's thorough cleaning, it gleamed and glowed in places where the flooring and cabinetry hadn't succumbed to age and neglect. Next she moved on the living area, tackling the main feature of couch and coffee table combo which was now serving as Maku's bed and nightstand. The flooring of the area was scrubbed thorough, then cleaned again and then swept after it had dried, the smell of cleaners once again prominent in the small apartment. The kunoichi had taken on the project not so much with the intention to clean but to disinfect. From what though, even she did not know.

By the time the brothers returned, everything in sight (or within sense in Den's case) had been cleaned, tidied, organised, arranged and beautified. A small group of hanging plants had even made an appearance from the kitchen ceiling, Akihana having collected empty containers and seeds to turn into what would hopefully flourish into proper flowers, herbs and spices over time. Dinner was once again a solemn affair on everyone but Maku's part but this time at least she had been the one to prepare it. The combination of a hearty lamb stew and freshly herbed rice were shared easily around the table and perhaps it was the blonde's imagination but she felt... things beginning to take on a routine.

That night, once again after admitting to herself that sleep was beyond ehr capabilities, Akihana retreated to what was now her room and started on a slit of things she would need from the market. Only realizing after she had concluded the list that anything from the market would require Ryo. That night, seh stayed confined to the armchair once more, tracing the progress of dawn across the ceiling of the room through her open window. Tonight either Maku did not snore or she did not hear him, only the street noises form outside keeping her company as she stared out across the room in a hypnotic, exhausted stance that was unable to change into real sleep. Akihana was jtled out of her chair when she heard movements outside, denoting someone was already up.

That someone ended up being Denkiteki, moving perfectly adeptly around his kitchen in search of a quick bite before heading out early. Akihana too made ehr way tot eh kitchen, passing by a sleeping Maku who - for reasons unknown - had both his feet on the pillow and his head buried somewhere under the blanket at the foot of the couch. In the kitchen, Akihana softly told the older brother of her intention to go to the markets that day and before she had to ask, Denkiteki was giving her some Ryo and a list of things he needed from the market as well. Akihana had no doubt he had given her enough to take are of her own shopping too because that was just who Den was.

Retreating into her room to change, Akihana fully expected to make breakfast for Maku, see him off and then go about her day but by the time she returned to the living area, the former blond was gone, without a word unsurprisingly. The woman merely shook her head, perhaps the first spark of amusement entering her otherwise dull golden eyes. Half an hour later she was changed into the dress she had donned on erh journey here, the thick cape once against protecting her against the cold and eyes of strangers. the village's marketplace did not present for many options which suited the kunoichi just fine. Choosing a few comfortable garments that would blend in with the local's style of chose rather than stand out, she moved towards the apothecaries and medicine stalls, collecting Den's items as well as her own personal shopping.

Her final stop was the wet market and immediately she found herself drawn to the fruits and vegetables. The blonde had enough Ryo to purchase the juicy looking oranges and grapefruits on display but as she contemplated the purchase, another customer came up and started to haggle. Akihana watched for a few minutes as he heavyset woman with a child clinging to each arm told the fruit seller he as ripping people off while the seller loudly defended the honor of his sales and the purity of his wares.

"Excuse me,' she interrupted softly, making both parties turn to look ehr way.the children at their mothers sleeve however paid no mind to any of the grown ups, their own world far more interesting then this one. "Would it be at all possible if I paid the difference and you gave this nice woman the fruits.

The seller looked at Akihana dumbfounded but the woman was quicker to react. "Listen Miss, I don't want your charity. This man is a sorry son-"

'Oh not at all, I am in desperate need of help actually," the blonde politely interjected before the village native could continue. "But can we settle this first?" As she reached out to pass the remainder of the money to the seller who happily packed the fruit, the woman introduced herself as Izuru. Akihana too gave a brief introduction, being as honest as possible and claiming seh was new in town and needed help knowing where everything was. Izuru and herself walked around the market for half an hour more before parting ways.

Having spent the better part of the afternoon outside, Akihana returned to the apartment and almost immediately began dinner preparations. Even so, she was only just in time, turning off the gas stove as she heard footsteps coming up. This time at dinner, she joined in the conversation more, detailing her trip to the market and the new friend she had made. Den revealed he knew the woman though only by name, apparently she semiotics brought a sick relative to him.

And for the third night in a row, no one asked her what she was doing here. How long she intended to stay.

That night when she retreated to her room, Akihana made for the window instead of the chair, knowing that the sights and sounds form the outside would be ehr only companion throughout yet another night where sleep would be impossible.

Despite the busy street outside, the skies above her quiet and vast, clear yet without stars and seeming to go on forever.

And for the first time since she had gotten her bearings, the former medic realized how lonely she truly was in the world.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Tue Sep 17, 2019 4:52 pm
Routine.....it was the death of a good time and the single item that led Men to war.  Well those two things might not be true, but they weren’t far off.  These thoughts crossed Maku’s mind as he considered the couple days that had gone by.  It was nice to not have to cook....one tally in the positive.  It had become his job so not needing to on his off time was pleasant.  His room was now a total disaster thanks to the Kunoichi.....one tally for negative.  Honestly he couldn’t find anything.  She’s actually out socks in a drawer instead of the sock corner.  The woman had no idea how to run a home.  They all acted like this was normal......well that was a tally to both categories.....”Boss whatcha want fer the special this week?”  Sarah barked from the other end of the kitchen.

Just that quick the day returned to something of normal.  Well whatever this new normal was.  The menu had shifted form light and refreshing to strong and hardy.  As the weather changed so did people’s tastes.  His mission was to always keep up, never be the same.  He’d quickly racked up clients, catering, and regulars perhaps because of this.  Though, maybe it was the novelty of a Shinobi theme outside a Shinobi village.  It wasn’t something these people often thought about.  Away from war torn, away from the politics of military powerhouses exerting themselves just because they could.  Whatever it was, it was working and he’d been able to reinvest within the restaurant and by extension the village.

He’d never admit it to Akihana or Denkitki, but the majority of his profits had already been spent and placed into the village.  Random benefactors, and patrons had started to appear.  Fixing up housing, going out to farmers, repairing fighting boats and piers.  He in truth pulled in next to no money.  He had plenty, all still safely in a pile in the corner of the apartment.  Making more, just seemed like a waste.  Still he had a reputation and refused to admit that he had already spent a small fortune on the island in charity.  Though he suspected some villagers had started to catch on, he refused to acknowledge it.

The day moved fairly quickly, and into the night he spent his normal time at dinner with his pseudo family, or whatever the three were starting to become.  After dinner he’d retired back down to the restaurant.  Though, not as Chef, but instead entertained.  His music filled the room, singing song after song and filling a couple of top jars, that always found there way back to those that filled them in one way or another.  The alcohol flowed, the music played, and bellies where filled.  It had not been a village filled with this before, and though a small thing.....these moments made Maku more proud than he’d felt in some time.  He’d done many things, but nothing like this.

His final song was a familiar one, one he often ended on.  The same song he’d played before purpose had died.  Finishing he grabbed one of his mugs and drowned the rest.  The warmth washed over him, and though he didn’t drink like he once had, the habit was hard to totally kick.  Waving and jostling a couple of the patrons he made his way out into the street.  The brisk wind hit him, blowing across his face and waking him up just a bit.  Reaching up he adjusted his mask that sat on top of his head.  His robes covering his torso after their recent alteration.  Putting his hands in his pockets he’d look back towards the window of what was normally his room.  For a second he’d thought he saw Aki peering through the shades but the moment was gone and he wasn’t sure if it was imagined or not.

Shrugging he made his way through the streets.  The moon was up and full, bright orange light flooding across the island barely needing street lights.  Some were taking advantage working later into the evening and night to be prepared as seasons moved.

If someone followed him he’d mostly wander aimlessly, until it was clear he’d made his way to the local book store.  Knocking on the back door he collected his order and over paid for it, letting the owner know that he appreciated the speed of delivery and these were all clearly first editions.  A lie, but coated in so much honey it went down sweet regardless.  Hoisting ip the satchel of books he made his way out of the village, to a little spit of land he’d purchased . It was small but farmable, and that was mostly what it was used for.  Though in the night it had a secondary purpose.

A quick look around, led him to not see anyone else.  Putting down the books, he’d make a quick seal.  He’d feel the fire, the earth, the water, and then the life.  Spreading out form him in 15m in all directions a new garden grew.  The brisk breeze picking up the scent of fresh herb and Spice still on the vine.  Though, no garden looked quite like this.  Each plant seemed to be possessed by the tiniest of flame spirits, causing the area to glow with a supernatural warmth.  It would twinkle even in the moonlight, a thing of beauty, a thing of life.  Reaching down he’d pick a leaf popping it into his mouth before sitting down within the garden.  For several moments he just sat, meditated on what the day had brought, and ushered out the thoughts that he’d been having.

The warm glow of his garden, what he is created, in addition to the harvest moon produced enough light.  Reaching into his bag of new books he withdrew one and opened it.  Letting his eyes dance across the pages, and take in the lore of a different world, forgetting his own for just a moment.  He would think later though, perhaps the worlds weren’t so different.....

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Thu Sep 19, 2019 7:59 pm
After two nights, Akihana understood that her relationship with the concept of sleep had deteriorated even further than when she was properly living. Always a light sleeper and never one to give completely in to rest at the best of times, now the blonde had aided the element of fear to the mix too. After her prolonged state of unconsciousness in Shikkotsu forest, anything resembling her eyelids growing heavy brought to mind the forced slumber of the slugs, jolting her wide awake, her golden eyes tinged with fear.

And it was with this fearful gaze that she looked out of the window when she saw it. It wasn't right, she knew in her heart that it couldn't be right. He was no longer gold haired like hwr and he should not have been so easy to spot but somehow, her eyes had always known what to look for. More than chakra vision and the clarity forded by her bloodline, it was about the stubborn thing inside her that always sought him out no matter what. For a full minute, the kunoichi contemplated forgetting what she had seen. If Maku felt the need to go somewhere late at night, he could do so. He didn't owe anyone a explanation.

And yet even as her mind reasoned this all out, her feet moved of their own accord, heading towards the doorway and then back to the window, her body beginning to tingle with the memory of it it felt like to utilize chakra. Had she been in possession of her full range of faculties, it would have been nothing to leap out the window and follow the lonely straggler who sometimes laughed too hard just to convince himself he was laughing. But she was no longer a ninja and the fear of unlocking her chakra in any active manner was still very present. So instead Akihana made her way to the living room, stopping only to reach for Denkiteki's long black coat to cover her own newly purchased nightshirt. Slipping her feet into practical sandals that had come highly condemned by Izuru, the blonde left the litle apartment via the stairs.

In truth - because it was the one character trait she could never run from - she had wished he was using his famous speed and space time jutsu to travel. That way, by the time she finally reached the street she had seen in him last, there would be nothing left to find. not even a spec of the golden bubble that served as his usual mode of transportation. However it seemed like Maku was in the mood for a leisurely stroll, all too easy to keep track of on his way through the streets, talking jovially to those he met and unknowingly making it easy for her to follow his trail. Along the way, she wondered if he knew, and he was slowing down on purpose, but then discarded the notion. When had Maku ever tried to make things easy for her?

As they two midnight strollers exited the village, it grew quieter, even darker. The fear that was never too far beneath the surface for Akihana these days threatened to bubble up once more, only this time for the person she had been following. The music she had heard from the restaurant earlier, the notes hauntingly familiar. And now this journey? As destructive as the man's jutsu could be to those around him, Akihana was perhaps one of the few people who knew they were far more destructive to the individual who cast them. So when he placed the books on the ground and prepared to activate the seal, the blonde automatically wanted to step out. Forgetting the fact that she was no longer protected by her chakra or any form of refined jutsu, forgetting that she would probably be of little help in any way given her current condition, forgetting for a moment that she was here unannounced and uninvited.

In the end, her slow reaction would keep the blonde hidden. His jutsu speed exceeded her own ability to intervene, allowing it to safely take place, the garden sprouting out some twenty five meters away from her. Unlike his usual techniques that were a glare of color determiner to be seen however, this one glowed gently, something akin to her own techniques o the past. Belatedly, the kunoichi realized his garden was not meant to be catch attention, perhaps simply to serve as a private haven for teh man.

One upon which she was intentionally encroaching.

It wasn't too late still. Either he was unaware of her existence here or doing a remarkable job of pretending to be. With him, it was often hard to tell what was the lie and where was the truth hidden in it. Either way, she could have used to excuse to slink of into the darkness, return to the flat and pretend she had never followed him. It would certainly have been easier.

But when had she ever tried to make things easy for him?

Making no attempts to conceal her presence, the woman walked into the softly glowing garden, the soft flames from the plants reflected in her butterscotch eyes and tinting the edges of her cornsilk hair.

"Anything interesting in there?' she asked softly, her tone automatically apologetic for the conclusion he would draw soon enough. "I couldn't sleep," she added before Maku could ask why she was here. It was, for lack of a better defense, at least the truth.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Thu Sep 19, 2019 9:39 pm
His eyes danced across the pages, flipping the paper faster than one would expect one to actually read. Though, to call it in-depth reading would be a lie. His own tendency to read was more of a skim. Taking a diagonal gaze down the pages, and picking out the key words and phrases to garner as much understanding as possible before flipping the page. His skills in genjutsu, space time, and ninjitsu would have left him to be a prodigy in most villages had he stayed. His execution in all the ninja arts, a weapon of war any Kage would have desired, however his lack of respect for knowledge, a liability when not performed right. It had led to his greatest and most devastating attack, and that had led to an ending.

This same style however had continued, and he’d never learned from it. Before Akihana could even say her apologetic words, he’d already made it some 50 pages in. Reading stories of 3 legendary ninja that eventually would splinter off. Each leading a destiny worth of text books. This is how he would see it, worthy of text books, he tried not to judge the morality he had found in there, just the facts that they had been great things, if not terrible.

At her voice he looked over his shoulder, genuine surprise on his face. “Sleep is for the weak ya know.” He would say with a smile, his blue eyes looking into her own. He’d turn back and continue flipping the pages, simmingly to fast. His eyes would continue to rake over the pages, but now his mind was on two places. “Somewhat interesting I’d say. Three ninja, two men one girl. The girl a healer, blonde.....one man skilled and snake like seemingly immortal, and a finally a Pervy guy who can’t take missions seriously........sound familiar?” Flipping a couple more pages he’d toss it over his shoulder towards her. Should she catch it or look at it, she’s note it was the story of the legendary sannin from a time gone by.

Laying back, he’d fall in the herb garden. Reaching into the bag he’d pull out one of the make out paradise books and start reading it, completely failing to grasp any of the irony from his original statement. He would continue to read for a minute, allowing her a chance to either come site, to stand, or to simply be. In truth he didn’t know what he had to say to her. What was there to say anymore. He knew she still had something deeper, something more to say, though she’d kept it to herself, holding the secret whatever it was.

Reaching over he’d pick a glowing strand of lemon grass and place it in between his lips, savoring the taste and chewing on it as he read. He could feel an awkwardness, but found the best solution was to ignore it completely as if it wasn’t there. Making his way through the “novel” he’d laugh at one of the parts, and felt himself blush a little bit. Honestly, how had he not found this series before. Soon he found himself reading more intently than he had for the history book. Looking up, he saw her still standing, though upside down due to his proximity.

Letting the book hit his chest he made a simple handseal, causing a branch to sprout fork the ground, it then shot off several other branches, and then they sprouted off several more as dense as he could make it. It was crude, but a small bench was crafted from the mokuton he’d been learning to control. Not saying another word he went back to the book. Not even commenting on this new ability he’d picked up. The bench would glow just as the garden did, as though there was an inner fire and warmth to the wood. It formed a couple feet behind his head, so she’d be welcome within the garden of herbs and fire.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Thu Sep 19, 2019 11:06 pm
True to form, no real greeting was exchanged, no formal welcome extended. Though Akihana knew enough to understand that if she was unwelcome, she would be made aware of it. If not by any offensive action than by her current companion simply vanishing in thin air. Showmanship the blonde had learned was an incorrigible part of Maku yet there were times when he wanted to be alone. And as always, she was never quite sure which mood he was in when with her. She liked to console herself however with the notion that he himself did not know it most of the time either.

As he recounted the story of the three ninja from his books, tossing the item her way, Akihana's hands did not raise to catch it. The book was thrown accurately enough but as soon as it entered her orbit, the trajectory slowed, the item all but floating into her slightly raised hands. The kunoichi hadn't used any chakra to alter the momentum behind the book's throw, nor had she put up anything defensive to block it. It was simply as if the item grew gentler as it neared her.

This as not the first item such an incident had happened around her in the last three days, but Akihana couldn't bring herself to consider its implication. Not now.

Receiving the tome, she leafed through the pages. The book itself was not familiar though the stories rang true. The Sannin - as they were described - hailed from her own birthplace - going on to achieve great strength but losing their purpose the more power they acquired. She wondered fit eh book was one of foreshadowing the future. The female sannin may have been golden haired and a healer but that was where the similarities stopped. And she hoped Denkiteki would never have to outgrow his tongue to produce swords like his book version did.

"I don't know," she commented, turning a page and coming across a list of publications by the third Sannin who had been a fairly famous author in his own right. "Maybe when you dye your hair white, I'll be able to see the resemblance more clearly." The hint at a jest surprised even herself. Was she real enough to engage in banter now, however stifled it may be?

Maku had moved on to yet another book by then, one that the kunoichi was definitely familiar with this time. Though she had never read the contents of the mature novel herself, it had been a must have accessory of almost every ANBU shinobi back in Kumo before its downfall by the hands of the one currently enjoying the literature. Akihana was certain that she in fact owned a copy of one of the volumes herself, obtained over the course of her own work with the Kumo Black Ops.

If she had felt like an intruder before, the woman felt more so now that Maku seemed engrossed in his book without a care in the world. She would have been envious if she was able to conjure up such an emotion, but the kunoichi couldn't find it in herself to envy even someone's ability to forget the world for a little while. Presently, there was a pause, and a quick handseal that created a flurry of branches twisting and twining into a rough bench. It took another moment for her to realize its creation was an invitation from Maku to have a seat. With a quiet "thank you", she moved towards the low, warm structure, siting down and then pulling her feet up and off the softly glowing grass. Bringing her knees close to her slender frame, the kunoichi rested her own book on them, her attention only half on the papers and they tales they told.

It felt wrong to disturb him from his reading, yet there wasn't much else right about the world and them at this moment. Shutting the book softly, she placed it beside her before training her golden eyes on Maku. "Den said you couldn't find me." The questions, as always were concealed within the statement because Akihana would never be brave enough to ask them directly.

You looked for me?

Why didn't you try harder?

Why did you try at all?

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Thu Sep 19, 2019 11:55 pm
A soft snort was all the response dying his hair got. While it may be obvious, and logic was easily taken to account for the change in color......Maku refused to say it out loud. A silly thing perhaps, but one had to maintain some semblance of pride, even in moments where pride was all but lost. As for her thanks, he pretended not to hear it. There was no reason to say thanks, what a silly thing to do indeed.

Reading the pages, he couldn’t help but enjoy the moment. A moment, that seemed to last forever and not at all within the world. Something that even space time chakra would never be able to emulate. Her pretense gave a feeling of......familiarity. If he dwelt on it longer perhaps he would find it meant more than that. However, he did not allow such a thought to last that long. Then the moment was broken, by a timid question. A question that could have no idea it had interrupted what he considered to be perfect.

Rolling his head back, he looked up at the kunoichi, or was that even what she was. No, it really wasn’t. She may have been trained, but such a title was lost on her now. Just as he had stopped referring to himself as a Shinobi, and instead only thought of his skills as Shinobi like. No, he wasn’t sure where the three fit into that old life, but it wasn’t as ninja at this point in time. Denkitki was a Doctor now, Akihana a civilian, and Maku.........he wasn’t sure what he was, and he didn’t care to think on it at the risk of becoming melancholy.

Staring at her she didn’t make eye contact, though not for the reason everyone else didn’t. He’d never used that technique on her, nor a reason too. No, it was something else. “Did he?” He would say starting out. His eyes looking at her, considering the implications of what she had said. It was true, he had tried to find her.......as he looked at her the scene shifted slightly.......the warm bed of herbs replaced with tundra and cold........

—————————————————————

“Guess its just you and me again...”. Maku would say to a bundle of clothes piled in a corner of ruins. It remained unmoving, a corpse stiff from the cold. The ground to hard to achieve a proper burial. In front of the former waterfall ninja, a small fire. A skinned rabbit spiked through roasting on the fire. The only real sound the howling of wind whistling through the ruins that surrounded them.

“I think they are all gone.....Denkitki I can’t find him anymore......Ryuu he seems to be gone.......I don’t know if the others are hiding or what but seems our group.....has bitten the dust.” He’d continue to converse with his former friend as though he could answer at any moment. His abilities allowed him to seek out and find those he’d known, but their organization had seemed to fallen apart. The two had never done a good job of making friends, and what little comrades they had where gone. In fact Maku on his own had done a better job.......

Looking out he saw animals slinking through the darkness. The snow and wind proving to set a task of survival of the fittest, his meal cooking bringing in challengers. The ruins lay open, destroyed by whatever jutsu Youka had used when he’d saw fit to destroy it. Just a hollow shell of a place that it could have been. The bloody snow he’d thought back then, reviving some ancient saga he’d read about once. Now like so many things it was just a hollow ruin.....

“Can’t even find her......I tried.....thought about going to Hoshigakure, but what’s the point......”. Pulling out a harmonica he’d picked up before leaving with the body of Youka Tau he’d play, the music keeping the beasts at bay, it knowing what strange creature dwelt within the cave made of civilization gone by. “Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow. To find Den, maybe others too.” His voice would trail off to a sad song............as he threw the rabbit out, and it vanished in a flash of fur and teeth. He wasn’t the predator anymore anyway.....

—————————————————————

The golden hair reformed as the thoughts exited his mind, it had almost been akin to genjutsu. Yet, ones own mind would always hold more power than any external attack. “I guess I looked for you once or twice. Still can’t figure out how I could find you. Den at least I know with his made up hiding hole.” His voice was nonchalant, as if the matter was reasonable, but hardly a thing to get worked up about. He’d turned back, looking and reading once again. How many nights in a frozen tundra had he really tried.........well it didn’t matter anyway. In the end it was when he quit trying she appeared, he doubted it would do much to tell her otherwise.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Mon Sep 23, 2019 1:27 am
“Did he?”

The Akari didn't reply, knowing that his question was anything but. The man across from her had no trouble hearing or understanding what she had said. No, he only reached a conundrum when it came to answering. Something she understood all too well and so would never begrudge him that. She had asked, and now she had to listen to whatever answer he chose to give her. If one's undoing by their own hands was an art form, the two people in the makeshift garden had probably perfected it over their lifetime.

“I guess I looked for you once or twice. Still can’t figure out how I could find you. Den at least I know with his made up hiding hole.”

As always with Maku, the kunoichi wasn't sure if he was revealing the full truth. He could have looked for her once or twice, as he admitted. Or he could have looked for her longer. Conversely, he may not have looked at all and simply told Den he had to appease his brother. Not that she deserved his attention or efforts. Akihana had disillusioned herself of that a long time ago. Nor would there ever be any accusation in her tone when she spoke of it with him or Den. What had happened to her was entirely her own doing.

And the fact that he had been the first person she had coming looking for, almost involuntarily and not in possession of her usual ninja faculties, had nothing to do with anything. No one here owed her anything, least of all an explanation.

The only person who might feasibly have was no longer around to explain himself.

"Den says he tried to progress his eyes to match yours, and it went wrong," she conveyed presently when a long enough silence had lapsed. the awkwardness would perhaps never go away but they could learn to speak through it if not over it. Having had a few days to think over Denkiteki's explanation for what had happens to his eyes, Akihana still found it difficult to believe he had messed up that badly, on both eyes. Even as she spoke of the surgeon, she huddled in his borrowed coat, not so much for warmth as she did for comfort.

Her statement hadn't been a question, but if Maku chose to answer it anyway, the kunoichi would listen. How many times had she seen his bright blue eyes grow dark and stained with blood as he performed feats linked to the works of Gods. She had seen the same thing on Youka, except his powers seem to progress even beyond what his blood brother could do. The purple rings in her husband's eyes were stark in her memory.

Everyone who had seen them judged them to be monsters. And yet Akihana had always been the one who had prayed for the monsters to come home safe.

"He's very popular with his patients, so I suppose some things don't change." The statement rang hollow. Den had changed too, along with them. His youthful face aside, Denkiteki was a different man now. they were all different. Burdened in one way or the either by a life lived for far too long than it was meant to be lived. "This life suits him, he seems happy?"

Another question she shouldn't have asked because once again, it was not as much a statement on Den's predicament than a query into the mindset of the one lying on the softly glowing grass across from her. If he was happy... If he didn't need any disruptions in his life, then she would have to reevaluate the fate of the world.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Mon Sep 23, 2019 10:38 am
For the second time, Maku found himself scoffing. Is that what Den had told her.......”Sounds suspect wouldn’t you say? Den making that big a mistake, without a backup plan.” His voice was sing song, a note of the past entering the conversation. Den and he had talked a lot since their reunion, and the man very seldom made mistakes like that. It was true, he wasn’t a very good leader, the brothers had that in common. Constantly making the mistake of taking over a place to do good. Yet, he doubted very much Denkitki Would make the mistake he’d expressed to the blonde. “I’m sure it was something self righteous, selfless, or philanthropic of him. I doubt very much it was a “mistake”.” He’d finish saying, looking back at his book.

“Mhmmm”. Maku would make the noise in agreement with her as she continued on. Speaking of Aden’s likability. It was true, of the two Den was more popular. He offered healing and a kind word. Though instead of being jealous he’d gotten used to it being this way, and had even found he liked it. Still trying to figure out where he fit into the world, he could use the less eyes from these people for now. They weren’t really an ideal audience anyway. Besides, he hadn’t even determined what kind of show his life was anymore.

It was the final part of her statement that caught his ear. It wasn’t what she said, but how she said it. They’d known each-other for some time, through times that others wouldn’t imagine. It was nothing more than a hunch, but one he felt like he could trust. Was she fishing for information, while being to polite to ask? Perhaps, but likely he felt it was something more. Knowing Aki she was questioning if her being here made everyone else happier or not, and as always she was looking for a way to be selfless. Rolling his eyes, he wasn’t sure if the motion would be caught in the dark, but all the same he made a dramatic effort to sit up, and put the book back in his bag.

Looking at her, eyes straight forward he try to peer into her soul it she didn’t look away. Of all the times since she had re-emerged this was probably the hardest stare he’d given her. He didn’t know why, but the question had almost enraged him, the feeling he hadn’t had in some time, and even know if he looked back he’d never properly be able to explain it.

“None of us are happy. We just are, we are just existing. It’s possible to do something you are very good at, and not be happy. I think that’s where we both are.” His words were short and crisper than the night air. He knew he should stop, run away, sit down and think meditate, but he couldn’t. “Don’t try getting high and mighty Akihanna. Doing something ridiculous like running away because you’d think it would do us a favor.” It was that thought that had done it. That she was trying to save them, or take care of them. They didn’t need it, she needed to think about herself and what she wanted or what would help her. The constant worrying for others had truly gotten on his nerves over the years, but when she worried about him it only was worse.......or he’d she really only meant Den and not him....

Sighing he let his chin drop to his chest. “Look.......I’m sorry..,” an apology......something he’d rarely given her. “You aren’t the same. Something’s off about you. More than when you had a monster, more than most times. Yet you are trying to be the same. It’s odd......but none of us are the same. Den isn’t the same, somethings off with him. The gods know I can’t figure myself out.....none of us are the same, and none of us are “happy” so just don’t go getting any crazy ideas for a second until we can borderline figure it out.” He’d finish a little lamely before letting himself flip back on the ground. A deep sigh and a hard exhale.

He didn’t recognize this world, and he didn’t recognize his own place in it. There was no where to go hide anymore either. Not the snowy village of Yukigakure, the room behind a boulder, the sewers of a palace, not even a little restaurant with people on parade in pajamas. The world had kept moving, and he’d been left in the dust. In a time gone by he’d vanish in this moment, to one of those places to just escape.......this time he contented himself with looking up at the night sky, and the smells of the garden he’d created.

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:05 pm
It hadn't occurred to Akihana that Den might not have been entirely truthful, at least not when he had first told her. It was only days after and given everything else she had seen the doctor do with added meticulousness that the blonde had begun to suspect something else was wrong. Instead of holding it against him though, she had simply tried to justify it. Perhaps he didn't want her to worry? Perhaps it had been something a lot more disturbing than he had lead her to believe.

Perhaps Den just didn't want to share his innermost thoughts with her? Not now anyway. That was a perfectly valid reason for keeping information from her too.

Maku seemed to be in agreement, and the woman didn't know if that mad her feel better or worse. Though in all fairness, she didn't know what made her feel anything these days. The question she had asked, spoken so softly as if hoping it would be missed, was answered moments later when his bright blue gaze pierced hers sharply where she sat.

She knew he was looking at her because she felt it as clearly as if he had reached out to touch her, trapped in his eyes well beyond anything a Genjutsu could do because every time he had looked at her in such a way, she had been unable to look away, unwilling to look away. Those who claimed it was his Sharingan that made him lethal were mistaken, because Akihana had yet to encounter a gaze more powerful than the one being directed her way right now. Her own topaz orbs held his in a hypnotic spell for what felt like an eternity but couldn't have possibly lasted more than a few seconds and when he finally stopped, the Kunoichi found herself shrinking back even before he started to speak.

More than his jarring words, it was the use of her name that formed the first crack of grief on her otherwise porcelain smooth face. She had wanted an answer and here it was, why had she expected ti to be anything else? Happiness had been a long distant dream even before she had disappeared, yet there had been moments out of time she had salvaged. moments with Arata and Arashi, moments with Youka and the eager Genin of Kumogakure, moments spent in silent meditation with Queen Shiera and moments spend existing out of time with Maku. Akihana didn't know how many prayer beads of salvaged moments strung together counted as a rosary of happiness but non of those beads existed any longer.

Why had she thought things would be different for Maku and Den? Or perhaps she had hoped?

"She wasn't a monster," the former medic corrected gently, fresh tears visible on her face in the soft lighting. They had started falling somewhere in the middle of his soliloquy but if asked when, she herself would not be able to point it out. She did know however that someone had to grieve for the fact that they would never be happy again, and that might as well be her. "She was simply trapped in circumstances beyond ehr control, I can sympathize with her now more than ever before."

He was right, the Akari was different. And if she could show him how she was different, Akihana would not have hesitated for a second. The cruelest wounds were the ones never seen because it invalidated the feeling of pain they caused. It would have been so easy to pull aside the coat, show him the scars and marks that dotted the flesh underneath. But she knew it she did, the only thing that would would come to light would be smooth, unblemished skin. Another testament to her being a co conspirator in a lie she never wanted to tell.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to be anymore," she admitted, trying not to choke on her own words as the tears kept cascading down her face and onto the bench, creating dark spots on the warm wooden surface. "For as long as I can remember, I was Arata's mother, now I'm not. My ninja rank changed over the years, my village affiliations did too. Even my name changed with.... him. But I was always a mother. Now I'm...."

Now she was still a mother though, the hardest lesson to learn. Just because she had lost a child didn't mean she had stopped being a mother. It just meant she was now a mother who had failed at the only job that really mattered. "All this time I refused to believe in monsters," she finished, her tear washed eyes raised to his in a confession chilling enough to freeze the soul. "Without knowing that I was the worst one of them all."

Idyll (Maku) Empty Re: Idyll (Maku)

Mon Sep 23, 2019 4:10 pm
She had always looked for the best, she had always wanted to find it and taken in anything less unto herself. People always claimed if you looked hard enough you’d find the bad, but when it came to Aki she put the opposite to the test, and from what Maku had seen with her it really did work both ways. He didn’t dignify her comments about the bijuu with a response. She had been a monster, but that didn’t mean she was bad. Being a monster had been his favorite part of her. Her need to defend a creature that was gone and needn’t defending only drive in the point he’d been attempting to make.

He watched her tears, but his gaze didn’t change. It didn’t soften until he’d already fallen backwards, looking up at the night sky. Her talk of sympathy.......she had more secrets to tell but she’s refused to give them up. His curiosity was up, but not enough to extract the information. Ali’s own brand of lying was a frustrating thing to crack. Having to pull the halve truths and redirections, it wasn’t something he had the energy for on this night. Instead, he knew in time she’d reveal it, even if it meant being patient.

The talk of a Arata was a surprising one. The boys absence had been significant, though now that he thought about it, he realized how little he’d even considered it. He had liked the kid, but he hadn’t even spared a single thought. A new anger boiled up, but this time at himself. A voice in his head appeared, I said you weren’t any different, just as selfish, just the same.......he shook his head at the sound of his inner monologue. How selfish was he not to notice such a simple thing, or had he just not wanted too.

The softness he felt quickly evaporated at her final words as she continued to sob. A gentler soul would hold her, tell her it would be ok. A normal soul would sit up, and ask her more want to see what they could do for her. For his own, the same anger boiled. Rolling his eyes and shaking his head in the ground he scoffed for the third time. Akihana a monster, what a joke. The only people who mourn themselves as monsters lack any of the beast inside them to back it up. She had truly lost hers, and even with the silver fiend she’d failed at being a monster.

Sitting back up he looked at her, not sure what to say. “Are you done?” He’d simply state. The tears didn’t do much for him, and her own self degradation failed to encore sympathy though he knew she didn’t look for it. It made him angry for her to hold herself to standards that didn’t exist, and that she’d clearly already met by denying herself the knowledge that she could.

“I don’t know why happened to him.......I don’t know why you think you are a monster.........I don’t know why you are back..........I don’t......I don’t know a lot of things.” He would say slowly, as he rose up and slung the backpack over his shoulder. “What I do know is.....the world is changing. People are coming back. You don’t have to be a sensory nin to feel it, it’s in the wind.” Walking over He’d grab the book he’d flipped her and pushed it in with the rest.

“This is what I do know......we are back. I think we all maybe lived to long, but here we are. I know I need a purpose to live, I know there is something we are gonna do, and I don’t know if it’s try to live a normal life or what...........but I do know......I’ve waited a long time to do this....”. It would happen quickly, almost so fast it wouldn’t be noticed. His hand would move beneath her chin, pulling her face up, and for the first time he would kiss her. Gently, not like him at all, as if just to test the waters and see how it felt. Then just that quickly he was gone.

It would feel like she just snapped awake in that moment. A sudden thing, possibly leaving her slightly confused. If she looked up properly she would see the garden of herbs and spices, still glowing softly, though the gardener had vanished. She’d also notice that night had long sense passed, and the mid morning was almost over as well. What she had just seen could easily be described as a fleeting dream.

Instead of Maku in the Garden was a happy little skunk, pink ribbon perched on her head. Between her teeth a small note. As Aki seemed to regain her faculties it would hop up on the bench, dropping the note and then running away into town back towards the restaurant. People where pointing confused at the interaction and the sleeping girl on the bench that hadn’t been there when the night had started.

If she opened she would find a sloppily written note.

-Akihanna

Looks like I bored you to sleep. I stayed with you as long as I could, but had to get to work. Swing by and pick up some breakfast when you want it sleepy head.

-MJ

————————————————————

It happened fast, when she had looked him in his eyes. That intense stare, she’d looked so willingly, and he couldn’t resist. Not for the first steps, but the steps to come. His mind rarely stayed in the present, but instead looked at what could be, even if it really couldn’t. The Tsukyomi genjutsu has come fast and hard, before she even noticed. He weaved an illusion so subtle and strong taking control of her weakness to see what had happened.

Or at least, he wanted to. His hand held the handle to break through her mind and take the information. To erase pain, and in the end......he acted out a fantasy within her fantasy. Something his physical body likely would never do. Then, just that easy he put her to sleep. He’d known she needed it, and he’d never let her know that he had been the one. Better to let her imagine it all as a dream, and that she’d finally succumbed to exhaustion.

He’d sat next to her all through the night, he’d made a blanket to keep her warm from mokuton and herbs. She’d not been that safe in some time, and true to his fashion, he was determined to never let her know it had even happened..........yes, it was all a fantasy anyway........let it be remembered that way......

At her first stirrings a gold flash took him back home, before true to a note entrusted to Tricky, he did indeed go back to work, even if Work was far from his mind....
