Why is He in the Hospital? (Kenshin)
Sun Apr 19, 2020 8:08 pm
The morning was bright and dry, as were most. The sunlight poured over the gates that were formed in between two cliffs. The light would enter the window of Shin's bedroom and splash onto the sleeping Kaguya. He would slowly begin to get up, rubbing his eyes and stretching in the comfort of his sheetless mattress. As he sat up, he could feel the weight of his enormous hair pull behind his head. Every morning his hair would be more awake than he was. He grumbled out of bed and into a new pair of clothes.
Shin shared a room with five other people who were also starting to wake up. They were all members of the gang Lost Winds and this was one of the surviving buildings of their former territory. It was a multistoried story with 3 levels. The bottom level was for the younger and weaker members, middle level was just a step up from that and the top level as part of the leaders of the gang.
The Kaguya changed into a white tank top and some loose sweat pants that had his weapon pouches on the belt. Two other members would be changing as well. Saki and Jun. "What's your tasks today?" Shin tiredly asked the other two while braiding his pink hair. Saki groaned, "Patrol with some of the younger ones." Jun chuckled, "That's it? I've got to make sure the new missing ninja don't attack us. I'd rather patrol." Saki smiled and asked Shin the same question. "Oh, I've got to go to the hospital. The new Kazekage has called for my attendance." His cheery attitude shock the other two. "Aren't you nervous?" Saki asked. Shin smiled and shook his head enthusiastically. "I'm excited actually. This might be my chance to join the village and become a REAL shinobi." Jun just shook his head and chuckled once more. "Of course you do. You keep telling us that when we were academy students." Jun was one of the few that was in the same academy course as Shin during the Kumo take over. "And look where believing got me." Shin smiled at Jun wholeheartedly. This made Jun smile as well. "Break a leg." Saki nodded, "We are all rooting for you. Including our coin purses." Shin's goal was to always become a shinobi like his parents but he also needed to finance the gang to keep food on the table.
Shin would take off shortly after and headed towards the Hospital, the meeting place the Kazekage had set up. He wondered if the Kazekage was injured from a fight or if it was just safer to meet in the hospital. Even though the situation was curious, his excitement was even louder.
The boy would walk into the large building. There he would find a smiling receptionist. He would smile in response and greet himself, "Hello, my name is Shin Kenshin. I'm supposed to meet with the Kazekage. Do you know what room he is in?"

Mai would look up and greet the newcomer with a smile of her own, this one looked a lot more normal than all of those other shinobi and that was something she appreciated a lot, like seriously, couldn’t they just be normal people with superpowers? That would be so much better than what they were now. But still… even this one seemed to have his own excentricities if his hair was anything to go by, although that was something she could deal with, so much better to have someone who just looked a bit weird than those emotionless drones or edgy teenagers she had seen around the village… didn’t they realise how ridiculous they looked with that stuff? Ugh. As the man spoke and asked where Kenshin was she would smile a bit brighter, if this man was going to be joining the shinobi force she would be happy, most of them were fine but very few were better than fine, and many were a lot worse.
“Kenshin is in the morgue, he’s basically got it set-up as a little office for himself while the Kazekage’s Tower is being rebuilt. Just follow the black line and it’ll take you to him.” The woman would state politely and with a small smile on her face, before going back to her work.
------------------------------------------------------------------
From within the morgue Kenshin was watching the situation unfold with his Byakugan, this one was stronger than most that sought him out, but seemed to be completely at ease… and that made him smirk. Perhaps this one was also here to join… he hoped so, he needed more skilled shinobi to make up his forces, Ibari, Kai, Lilith and Han were all powerful, and so was he, but the more he had the better.

The receptionist lady seemed to respond well to the Shinobi's energy. “Kenshin is in the morgue, he’s got it set-up as a little office for himself while the Kazekage’s Tower is being rebuilt. Just follow the black line and it’ll take you to him.” She returned to work after telling him where he was. Shin had forgotten that the former Kazekage centre had been destroyed in the battle with Kiri. But Shin still wondered why the Kage would choose to stay in the MORGE of all places in the hospital. The thought of him just chilling in the room with a bunch of dead bodies brought a small tingling up his spine. It felt like someone was watching him. "T-thank you." He would take the black line path down to the morgue as she had instructed him to do.
The path leads down a series of rooms that were almost all empty. He knew, as a local, that the hospital had been hit hard by the multitude of attacks in the past. They were understaffed and underqualified to even be called a hospital. Yet, he knew some people still found it to be a safe place, a haven of sorts, away from all the evil outside its doors. It seemed that lots of people still respected the building as it was a reminder of once was. The Lost Wind never really used the hospital, however. Most of the members lost trust in the system and only trusted the gang itself. It was one of the reasons Shin got adapted to the world of medical ninjutsu, he had to take care of the only family he had.
The room felt eerie from the outside. He had never been to a morgue but he knows that's where dead people go. In his mind, he imagined the room filled with hanging bodies like it was a slaughterhouse and in the centre would be a man just looking at the decomposed bodies. The tingle started up his back once more. He took a deep breath in before knocking on the door.
After getting permission to get in or after waiting a moment outside, Shin would take a peek inside before pushing the door open all the way. He sighed in relief to see that the morgue wasn't what he imagined. Then he looked at the man himself. He was horrifying. The man was only a couple inches taller than him and he looked like a corpse. His skin was white as chalk and mostly bone was showing. Pairing with the terrifying skin tone, he was riddled with scars of his past. His hair was long like Shin's but silver. "Oh wow," were the only first words he could muster. He finally was able to bring his cheerful self back up. "Hey, my name is Shin Kenshin. I'm uh local from Sunakagure. I was raised on the streets of the village. And I..." He would summon more courage and almost shouted. "And I would like to become a shinobi among your ranks!" He clenched his fist in anticipation. He wasn't sure what he was expecting but one tends to assume the worst when in front of someone with such high power.

The Reaper would smirk to himself as he heard the boyish voice whispering to itself in a mixture of shock, awe and horror as the boy watched laid eyes on him, his Byakugan watching as the eyes of the young man took in every detail of his form, something that was only possible due to the fact that he was currently wearing a black tank top, and thus exposing his arms for everyone to see. He had just returned from training and was in the process of cooling down so his usual black overcoat could be seen resting on one of the many unused draining tables. The Ragdoll didn’t particularly care when people stared at him anymore, his body was certainly unusual after-all, if anything it only amused him now… as a Medical Specialist he had seen a great many body types, and his was the only example he could really think of that both looked like this yet was perfectly healthy, and that was all down to his threads and his Miasmic Chakra. The unholy energy was all but attacking his body, but at the same time it was empowering it beyond what any would believe with his current looks… and that was the truly amusing part of it all. He could fix it at any point with a simple use of his Advanced Transformation, but it truthfully mattered very little to him, and if anything it only made people underestimate him, and that was always a good thing.
Kenshin would deactivate his Byakugan and spin around in his chair slowly as the boy began to speak to him, listening as he introduced himself as Shin Kenshin, an amusing coincidence to be sure, and explained that he was a local of Sunagakure that grew up on the streets of the village and now wished to join his shinobi force, although the last part shouted in excitement as he clenched a fist. The declaration earned a lighthearted chuckle from The First Kazekage of The New Sunagakure, the laughter obviously not mocking the boy or being derivative at all, a simple chuckle from an amused man. This one certainly had spirit, and he was obviously rather young in terms of both his looks and his attitude, which was not a bad thing by any means, he simply wasn’t as jaded as the rest of his forces were… not yet anyways.
“Well met Shin, I am Kenshin Uzumaki, former S-ranked Missing-Nin and current Kazekage of Sunagakure. I must say I am glad to hear that you wish to join with my forces, we are always in need of new recruits and I can tell that you are a great deal more skilled than most based on the feel of your chakra alone. But please, take a seat.” The Reaper would say with a pleasant smile on his face, gesturing towards the seat that sat between himself and the man standing in the doorway. If the younger man chose to take a seat Kenshin would offer him a light smile, before starting to speak once more. If the young man chose not to take a seat Kenshin would simply speak regardless.
“Before we go any further why don’t you tell me a bit more about yourself. Why exactly do you wish to join my forces?” The man would then ask, going silent so that he could listen to what the younger one had to say.

Kenshin chuckled at the declaration, but not in a mocking way. Shin could tell the Kage was amused which relieved him greatly. He could feel the weight rapidly come off his back. Perhaps it was his child-like ambitions or maybe it was the strange-looking boy demanding to be put among the ranks of Suna. He hoped that by the end of today that he would be impressed and amused.

I must say I am glad to hear that you wish to join with my forces, we are always in need of new recruits and I can tell that you are a great deal more skilled than most based on the feel of your chakra alone." Shin beamed when he heard that he was open for joining the ranks. It might seem strange to a Missing ninja, like Kenshin, but it had always been his dream to be a village shinobi. So hearing that was like music to his ears. Not only that, but he was impressed by his chakra. He blushed slightly to the compliment. But he composed himself quickly; quickly closing his gaping mouth. Kenshin had invited him to sit, so he did. However, he was far too excited to relax back into his seat. Shin sat down at the very edge of his seat with his hands grasping his knees.
Now that Kenshin had introduced himself, Shin felt more at ease about his character. Sure there was still a lot of questions on the young boy's mind but the Kage seemed a bit more approachable now. He was no longer a stranger, Shin knew that he was missing ninja and was now the Kazekage. His anxiety towards his initial reactions was now gone so he felt more open to sharing his thoughts with him.
“Before we go any further why don’t you tell me a bit more about yourself. Why exactly do you wish to join my forces?” Kenshin would ask the boy. Shin almost forgot to speak before noticing that it had gone silent. "Oh right!" He quickly outburst, clearing his throat. "Ever since I was in the academy back before The Scar and the missing ninjas, I wanted to become a great shinobi. Both my parents were shinobi among Sunakagures forces." The quickly inhaled nervously. "Of course my father was killed during all the chaos and my mother committed suicide but I'm passed that." He realized after he said it that he probably said too much. "Even after the battles of Kiri and Kono, I wanted to become a shinobi. If I didn't have to care for my own, I would've probably gone and fought the invaders myself." He chuckled lightly to himself just thinking about it. "But I'm very qualified as well. I've survived on the streets of Suna for years. I learned techniques from many passerby shinobi. Not only that, but I've begun to hone my clan's technique. The Kaguya Clan's bone stuff." He had found some of the scrolls in his old home's cellar. Its where he learned his Dance of the Camellia Flower and Dance of the Seedling Fern. He had never met anyone else with his abilities except his parents, so all his training with those techniques were done alone.

Kenshin would listen intently as the boy explained his story, his father being killed during the ‘chaos’ and his mother committing suicide, something that ruled out his involvement in their death as he had killed all of the shinobi that remained in Sunagakure and he had mentioned both being shinobi, something that told him they likely passed during Kumo’s reign… which would also explain why the boy didn’t seem to hold any grudge against him for wiping the slate clean. He had been in the village during the joint attack by the forces of Kirigakure and Konohagakure, and even went so far as to say that he would have fought the invaders himself if he hadn’t been caring for ‘his own’, likely other orphans or perhaps even siblings. Overall the boy must have been quite strong to have survived on his own in a village like Sunagakure for years, and apparently he hadn’t been idle in those years, learning techniques from wandering shinobi and Missing-Nin that visited the village, not even getting into the fact that like Ibari this one was a member of the Kaguya clan.
“I see, you have led an interesting yet hard life, but it seems that you have overcome those challenges and come out better for them, something that not everyone can say they have… it’s honestly rather impressive given how young you are.” The Ragdoll would state with a small smile towards the boy, looking towards his desk and extending his left hand out, opening the topmost drawer and retrieving a Sunagakure Headband from within. He would stare down at the symbol etched into the metal for a few moments, before looking towards Shin and losing his smile.
“The Shinobi life is not an easy one, nor is it the most pleasant at times… once you accept this headband you will be expected to follow the orders you are given, even if those orders conflict with your own morals and code of ethics… do you believe that you will be able to follow those orders and do what needs to be done?” The Reaper would then ask, his face blank and as he looked towards the boy. He was not going to sugarcoat things for those that wished to join his forces, he would ensure that they knew exactly what type of work they would be signing up for in the future before they made this oath. There were too many that saw shinobi as shining beacons of justice, and while he didn’t believe this boy was one of them given his past he still needed to be sure that he would be able to follow the orders he was given, to ensure that he would do whatever was necessary to get the job done.

As Shin regaled his summarized life story up until now, Kenshin listened intently and made some opinions on the Kaguya. “I see, you have led an interesting yet hard life, but it seems that you have overcome those challenges and come out better for them, something that not everyone can say they have… it’s honestly rather impressive given how young you are.” Shin flushed again over the compliment, rubbing the back of his head. "Aw shucks." Shin would always get compliments from the younger members of the gang when he told his story because they had never seen anything like that. However, hearing it from the Kage meant a whole other league to him.
Unexpectedly, the Kage would stand up from his chair, smiling, and opened the top drawer and pulled out a shiny Sunagakure headband. His eyes widen on the glorious headwear like a puppy waiting for his master to give him a treat. It was even more beautiful than Shin could've imagined. His dreams of becoming a legit shinobi would finally no longer be fantasy. There was hope in Shin's heart.
Kenshin would quickly lose his smile, snapping Shin out of his daze. “The Shinobi life is not an easy one, nor is it the most pleasant at times… once you accept this headband you will be expected to follow the orders you are given, even if those orders conflict with your own morals and code of ethics… do you believe that you will be able to follow those orders and do what needs to be done?” Shin thought for a moment, hesitating. His morals? What were his morals? Fighting for the village? Or was it fighting to belong? Shin knew that sometimes the tasks would be hard but that he would fight them with a gleam in his eye. What if he had to kill someone that he cared about for the sake of the village. No. This was that one chance he had and he wasn't about to abandon everything for some silly what-ifs.
His smile would change from excitement to pride. "Kazekage sir, I would do whatever it takes to fight for this village. It's my home and I must defend it. I am a weapon at your disposal. It's been my dream for my entire life to become a shinobi. it's the only reason I can still smile even in the hardships." He then laughed lightheartedly, "I also need some income to support my family. Living on the streets isn't the most luxurious of lives." He suddenly realized that the comment could mean that he was insincere about his previous statements. He quickly stumbles to recover, "But! My dream was always to become a shinobi." Shin knew about the unforgiving world and that the shinobi life wouldn't be easy but he also knew there was no life without risk. Besides, Shin felt he could trust Kenshin with his life even though he didn't know him too much. His charisma was sure enough to convince the Kaguya.

Kenshin would listen carefully to what Shin had to say, his face betraying none of the emotions that he felt when he heard the boys words, simply waiting for the boy to say his part before he fell silent. It was then that the ice would break, and a small smirk would form on Kenshin’s face as he extended the Sunagakure Headband towards the boy, the boy had been truthful with every word and those words showed his resolve for all to see.
“Well said, but do keep in mind that I do not expect nor want you to act as a simple mindless tool for me, I wish for all of my shinobi to be able to speak freely, especially if they disagree with a course of action I am taking or orders that they receive. You simply need to be able to put your personal feelings aside when it comes down to it… and do not be ashamed of wishing to become a shinobi for the stable income, no matter who they are, king or pauper... everyone needs to eat.” Kenshin would explain with a small smirk, and he was telling the truth… if he wanted mindless drones he could easily create them, but that was not what he wanted in the slightest.
“Place the headband on and swear your loyalty to me and Sunagakure as a whole.” The Kazekage would then instruct, holding the headband out to his latest shinobi.

Unexpectedly, Kenshin would break his poker face and smirk at the newly formed village shinobi. All the joy rushed back up to Shin's face as he saw his smirk; It was good to see his smirking face again. The Kage held out the headband that had an hourglass symbol on it, the symbol of the village.“Well said, but do keep in mind that I do not expect nor want you to act as a simple mindless tool for me, I wish for all of my shinobi to be able to speak freely, especially if they disagree with a course of action I am taking or orders that they receive..." Shin was relieved that he wasn't going to just be a mindless tool. He didn't want to not speak his mind, as seen that he liked talking and being expressive. All the more reason for him to like his Kage. " You simply need to be able to put your personal feelings aside when it comes down to it… and do not be ashamed of wishing to become a shinobi for the stable income, no matter who they are, king or pauper... everyone needs to eat." Shin laughed, "Yeah, I guess you're right. Thank you!" He was just beaming with pride and glee.
“Place the headband on and swear your loyalty to me and Sunagakure as a whole," Kenshin instructed. Shin didn't hesitant; He quickly placed the headband around his forehead and tied it to the back of his head to keep it secure. Then he would but his right hand on his heart and the left one up in the air, even though he wasn't instructed to. "I, Shin Kenshin, swear to defend you and the village with my life. I will follow commands and grow in power for the sake of the Village. I will take initiative to defeat any foes that dare to harm the village." He would yield after his promise. It might have been excessive but Shin was all for that. Kenshin did say that he didn't want mindless shinobi.
Before Kenshin could say anything else, Shin would rush to the most reflective shelf that held the bodies and examined himself. "Wow, I didn't think I could get any more attractive." He teased and looked at Kenshin through the reflection. "So I'm finally a genin. I don't imagine it'll take long to rank up due to my experience." Shin was confident in his abilities since he had been on the streets for years and had been able to beat up some mighty foes. If he had to guess, he would guess at least Chunin level of power level. He was never able to measure it to any village shinobi. "But don't worry, I won't go too rough in the chunin exams." The chunin exams were something he had always wanted to go to because it was a show of power to the village. Occasionally it was with other villages. Shin assumed that he was going to be starting where every shinobi does since Kenshin hadn't told him yet.

Kenshin would watch as the teen placed the headband on and tied it in place, before placing his right hand above his heart and his left in the air as he swore his loyalty… the words said in the oath making The Reaper resist the urge to smirk in satisfaction. He would release a light chuckle as the man commented on his appearance, before smirking in amusement when he made note of his new rank, although his brows would furrow when the man said he wouldn’t be too rough in any Chunin Exams.
“Shin, I want you to understand something… sometimes this world simply isn’t fair, bad things can and do happen to good and honest people… those that truly don’t deserve any hardships or ill tidings. It’s for that reason that if you were to take part in any Chunin Exams or fights within these walls that I would expect you to fight with your fullest ability… even if it was unfair for your opponent. Sunagakure is a village that respects strength, and unlike some other villages I will not allow the growth of our stronger and more skilled shinobi to be hampered for the sake of those weaker than them… and that isn’t just for the benefit of the strong. In and itself that is a mentality that only sets those weaker shinobi up for failure in the future, as no true enemy would fight with such a handicap… and at least if they lose in a controlled setting they will be able to understand and accept their weakness, then train harder to do something about it.” The Ragdoll would explain with a small understanding smile on his face, as he could indeed see why the man would think such a thing was acceptable… but Kenshin knew first hand that such a mindset never truly helped anyone in a real fight.
“...But, you will not have to worry about that, as you are no simple Genin… that would just be a waste of your skills. So, allow me to be the first to greet you as Shin, Chunin of Sunagakure. Now, I must get back to work, but it was a pleasure to meet you and I am glad to have you as a member of my forces. For now I want you to head towards the Kazekage Tower that is being reconstructed in the heart of the village. You will find an apartment complex to the right of the towers entrance that will provide you with free housing due to you being a shinobi of the village, all you need to do is show the man at the reception area, Ban, your headband and he will handle the rest. These apartments are not what I would call luxurious, but they will provide you with everything you need in a home as well as a decent amount of space, and some privacy." The man would then say with a small smirk, amusement clear on his face as he mentioned his rank, and only growing as he mentioned the free housing to the younger shinobi. Much could be said about Kenshin as a Kage, and there were countless arguments that he would personally make about why he was a poor leader… but none could say that he mistreated those that served under him.
