Gaining Experience With a Spar

Gonk had placed a flyer at the Military Training facility inviting someone to spar with him. He now stood in the spectral arena impatiently waiting for someone to arrive. Gonk had been training and doing missions a lot recently and wanted to put his skill to the test. A spar with another ninja would help further his skill and give him more experience. It was lightly raining at the moment, creating many small puddles around the arena. The relatively warmer weather was a nice break from the unusually cold December they were having. Gonk decided to warm up with a few stretches and a light jog around the arena. Once his opponent arrives he will call out to them, “So, have you come to accept my duel?” Assuming they have, they will square off and begin the fight.

Travin was looking to get some training in walking into the Military Training Facility. Thinking that he needed to get his body in better shape seeing how a lot of shinobi was much faster and stronger than he was. He had his normal gear on consisting of his black combat boots and pants, with his black tank top tucked into. His weapon pouch on his back belt loop full of his kunai, shuriken, and other normal objects he carried with him. He didn’t leave anything out know that he would have to get used to training with them on, as it would only make completing missions with them better. Walking by one of the many bords in the training facility where people often offered classes or special training a flyer caught his eye. Picking up the flyer it was an invitation to spar with another genin. Thinking that this could probably be better than solo training and doing a bunch of push-ups and sit-ups Travin went for it. Taking the flyer with him he headed to the designated section mentioned in the flyer.

Travin stood at the top of the stairs looking down into the arena where a Hoshigakie stood. Figuring that he was the one that left the flyer Travin started to walk down the stairs thinking to himself. That it had to be hard for that clan to blend in with the blue skin and shark features. Once he made it down into the arena he noted that it had been slightly raining most of the day and the outside arena was quite wet leaving puddles everywhere, and making things a little slippery in the mud. He also noted that it was still a little misty but not bad enough to hinder vision in any way, as well as being warmer than what the past few weeks had been with the snow and whatnot.

“So, have you come to accept my duel?” the Hoshigaki yelled across the arena. Since he was on the other side of the 100-meter long arena 50 meters wide. Travin waited till he was around the 20-meter distance before replying.

“Yes, I thought it would be good practice and training. My name is Travin Rentei” he would tell the Hoshigaki.

The boy who showed up to duel looked around the same age as Gonk but a little bit taller. He introduced himself as Travin Rentei, to which Gonk replied with “Gonk Hoshigaki, you ready to start?” Gonk then drew a wooden training katana he had in place of his real sword and took a defensive stance. He started walking in a circle around the arena, moving slightly diagonally, so he was slowly getting closer to the center. Gonk didn’t know anything about the guy, so he decided to try and gleam a bit of information with an attack. In one swift motion, Gonk reached into his ninja pouch and threw his five shuriken at his opponent. The shuriken were in a sort of pentagon formation, the top one making a beeline for his head, and the others trajectory were roughly around his limbs. If Travin failed to dodge, he would get a shuriken in the head, and be hit in all of his limbs. Gonk hoped to learn Travin’s speed and fighting style from his response. As soon as the shuriken were out of his hand, Gonk started running towards his opponent, trying to close the distance between them while Travin would be busy dodging.

The other boy introduced himself as Gonk Hoshigaki. Travin thought it was a weird name but it could be a clan name he hadn’t really met too many Hoshigaki, and he had heard weirder clan names before. He then drew a wooden Katana and started to walk around in a circle getting ever closer at a speed of 5. Travin figured he was taking it slow to get a feel for how this duel was going to go. However, the moment that Gonk took his first step Travin was making hand signs. Ram, Monkey, Hare, Ram, Monkey at a speed of 35 Travin would be finished just before Gonk turned and threw his Shuriken, as Gonks Shuriken would leave his hands flying at a speed of 10 Travin would sidestep to the right reaching for a kunai of his own, as Travin sidestepped a forest would erupt from the ground. Covering half of a 40-meter circle centered on Travin in massive trees. The biggest sprouting up, right between Gonk and Travins current position. The forest wouldn’t grow but appear as if it was always there and cut Gonks vision of Travin off.

Travin knowing that it was only genjutsu would throw his kunai at the max speed of 64 aiming to hit Gonk in the shoulder. If Gonk didn’t stop when the forest came into being he would be against the tree unable to see the kunai coming through it, and placing him 10 meters away from Travin. Who would keep his guard up and start making the hand signs for his next jutsu incase Gonk came up with something clever.

As soon as the trees sprouted from the ground Gonk leapt up and back, wary of their purpose. He then saw a kunai fly right through one and straight at him. Using his speed of 77, Gonk was able to bring up his wooden sword and deflect the knife to his right.
“Where did these trees come from and how did the kunai pass through them? It must be genjutsu.” So Gonk performed genjutsu release, and sure enough, the trees disappeared. Gonk then lept towards Travin with his full 77 speed and swung his blade at Travin with the same 77 speed. Gonk held back with the power of his strike to make sure he only bruised the shinobi. HIs blade was in an upwards arc aiming at Travin’s chest. To get there, it would have to go through Travin’s hands. To dodge, Travin would have to stop his hand seals or come up with something pretty creative.

Travin watched as Gonk lept back when the trees in his genjutsu appeared. Being able to see that gonk was in the air and that the kunai he had thrown was now aiming for his right thigh instead of his right shoulder. With Travin’s vision unhindered by the trees since he was not the one in the genjutsu. He was able to clearly see Gonk leap up and back off the ground. Rookie move travin thought to himself as he quickly pulled to more kunai and threw them at Gonk as he hit the peak of his jump. The Kunai would be moving at a speed of 64 and had a sharpness of 50. He aimed the kunai to hit at the same time one in Gonk’s lefts shoulder and the other in his right thigh. Gonks wooden sword would be down at his right side due to using it to deflect the 1 first kunai, and being in the air wouldn’t’ be able to dodge the second kunai. Travin also knew that it would be very difficult for him to get a jutsu off with more than a single hand sign, and they only jutsu that Travin knew the substitution jutsu wouldn’t work either since there was nothing for gonk to swap with mid-air.

Travin kept his eyes on Gonk to see if he was going to be able to avoid the other kunai. If he did he was better than Travin gave him credit for, but as is Travin was pretty sure the fight would be over with this move, and prepared to yell for the medic nearby to heal Gonks wound.

As Gonk leapt through the air, he saw Travin whip out two kunai, and hurl them at him, one traveling at his right thigh, and one heading for his left shoulder. Gonk realized he would only be able to block one, so he moved his sword to knock one to the side and let the other one strike him in the shoulder, wincing a bit as it bounced off his scales. It left a small scratch, but didn’t break the surface. Gonk smiled as he landed 15 meters away from Travin and performed the hand seals for Great Vortex Technique. Gonk then spewed a huge amount of water from his mouth, which started spiraling and barreled towards Travin. Gonk held back, so the power of the jutsu was only 25, but the speed was still 60. The vortex had a diameter of 25 meters, so combining range, speed and size, it would be extremely hard for Travin to avoid. If he is caught in the jutsu, he will be tossed around inside until the jutsu becomes out of range, depositing him onto the ground. Gonk would then call for the medical ninja to treat him, because while the jutsu was not lethal, it would have banged him up quite a bit. As soon as Gonk finished the hand seals for his first jutsu, he performed four out of the five hand seals required for water dragon bullet.

Travin saw as his kunai almost harmlessly bounced off of Gonks skin. Dam shark people must have a natural armor of some sort. He thought to himself as gonk landed on the ground, and started to make hand seals. Dam, not good Travin thought to himself knowing that he was way too close to dodge ninjutsu with his current speed level. Using only his left hand Travin made the Ram hand seal before blasting to the right a solid 10m at a speed of 135 through the use of the body flicker jutsu. Travin would just barely dodge the Great Vortex Technique that Gonk used.

Pointing two fingers on his right hand at Gonk. “Ok, so let’s gets real I’ll stop holding back” Travin would tell Gonk, as he used his Ephemeral genjutsu on Gonk when he pointed at him. With a power of 65, the genjutsu placed on Gonk would change nothing of their surrounding everything would remain exactly the way it was before the genjutsu. The only exception is that now the battle was taking place inside of Gonks head while both Gonk and Travin would be paralyzed in the real world. “Show me what you can do” Travin would add.

As Gonk feared, Travin was barely able to dodge the giant vortex of water coming at him.
“Damn I thought that would have got him,” Gonk thought, annoyed, as he saw Travin flicker away, and then reappear 10 meters away. He then pointed his finger at Gonk and yelled that he was done holding back, to which Gonk responded “Fine then dodge this!” Gonk quickly threw five kunai at Travin, which flew out of his hand at 119 speed. The kunai were in a straight line, half a foot apart from each other. Right as the kunai left his hands, Gonk formed the last hand seal for water dragon bullet, and spewed water from his mouth, which took the shape of a huge dragon. Gonk then made the dragon shoot towards Travin’s current position at 62 speed and a reduced 25 power. Gonk was able to fully control the dragon, so it followed wherever Travin went. If the jutsu hit Travin, Gonk would call the medic over to see if he was okay.
“I wonder why Travin pointed at me earlier?” Gonk pondered as he thought back to earlier. “Could it have been some kind of jutsu.” Gonk looked around, but nothing had changed from before, so he shrugged it off as meaningless.

By the time that Gonk thought he threw the kunai, it was too late and he was already inside of the genjutsu world. Both their bodies would be standing there looking at each other while inside of their minds the real battle would be taking place. Inside of the genjutsu Gonk threw his kunai but Travin mimicked him and threw Kunais of his own on the projection of Gonks Kunai. It would be so perfect that the points of each kunai would hit against each other. While at the same time Travins eye would glow Blue as he activated his Seigan. “These eyes let me see the future Gonk” He would yell over at Gonk as he made the same hand signs that Gonk made except he made them just a few fractions of a second sooner than gonk did. Both would spew water from their mouths Travin just a split second faster. Forming the water dragons with both firing them at each other at the same time on the same path forcing them to collide into each other.

Unless Gonk changed something in response Travin would look over at Gonk once the water fell back to the ground. “Give up Gonk you can’t win, I have done seen it.”
