Yohei activates his strongest booster, the peacock spirit blessing, peacock feathers made of wispy energy. Yohei did the handseals for the seal of absorption, he places it on his chest. Yohei did another handseal for the sealing technique and places it on his chest. The last hangsigns he would do is the chakra storage seal placing it on his chest as well. With the placement of seals completed Yohei was happy. He would be eager to test his new found power in combat.

Toneri was dressed in his usual outfit—a white tunic underneath a black cloak made of the finest linen. The golden hilt of the sword's bright roar drained the sun's light on his left hip. His favorite mare had already been saddled; trotting across the yard, he felt the eyes of the people on him. He raised a hand and waved at them with a smile, wide and bright. Keeping up appearances was always crucial with his station as a nobleman of Haven, a Chuunin of Hoshigakure, and heir to the Hyuuga clan. 


He spurred his horse into a trot, moving down the water street, and onwards towards the Water Gardens, full of greenery. The guard rose an arm at the gardens' entrance at Toneri's approach, and his horse's movement suddenly halted.

"Is our trusted Nova hero in there?" Toneri asked upon showing the hard his ID. it was standard procedure in entering the advanced training area.

"I've never known Yohei not to be in." The guard responded and handed Toneri his id back. The Hyuuga Chuunin climbed down from his horse and hitched on a nearby pole. Petting her gently on the head, he summoned a green apple from his pocket and fed it to her. The horse ate it eagerly, down to the stone. Toneri had stopped naming them a while ago; there was no need to get too attached to animals. That made it easier if they were ever shot down underneath his feet.

He walked across the narrow path that was the entrance to the gardens, and before long, the figure of a tall white-haired emerged in the distance.

"Oh, it seems you figured out how Fuinjutsu preplacement works," Toneri noted upon seeing the Yohei casting the hand signs for the seals and then engraving them on his body like fresh tattoos.

"Guess me and Dusk owe Ayato a drink. A cup of milk probably, right before he heads to bed, just as my brothers likes it."

Yohei focused on getting his seals on point and failed to tone the presence that entered the garden. He should have kept his chakra sensory active, he supposed. Assuming he could track him that far. Ten meters behind him, a young man was blond-haired and regal-looking.

Toneri Hyuuga. The Nova recognized. Ayato’s brother had grown since they last met in the yard. If the word around the alehouses was wrong, he has grown to become a real asshole. During an extensive training session that a good chunk of the village had taken part in, Toneri nearly came to blows with two other Chuunin.

“That’s more like it, and I wondered what happened to your humor during my surgery.” The kid smiled and gave easy pleasantries when his siblings watched, but the moment they turned their backs, he would show his true colors.

Despite the fact they were siblings and everything disrespectful to the Kage in the presence of his Nova, it was not an intelligent choice. A better man would have reprimanded Toneri for that conduct or at least noted it. Yohei was not one such.

“And what is this then? Did the Seventh send you to babysit me?” He groaned, a lazy look in his eyes. “Is that why you sound so resentful?”

Oh yes. The one thing that Yohei could do better than fighting. Duel with words. That guy shut all was next level, not that it would ever reach Toneri.

"Not quite. My sweet brother seems to trust you enough to let you walk around independently." He grinned, placing a hand on his sword hilt, casually more resting it than preparing to draw. That should have been obvious to the samurai. "I went by your house yesterday. But you were not there. Saw your dog, though, and your furniture. This minimalistic look never blew my hair back, but suppose you'll be moving to the Nova headquarters soon."

Probably for the best. Yohei's trailer was a shithole, truth be told, narrow and crooked. The years of retirement had not been kind to the man who once won the great tournament of Hoshigakure and earned a place In Tenhiyat's guard. All that glory and courage to end up as a drunkard living in a shithole. Saved by the graces of the Hoshigakure higher ours who gave him a chance

Toneri had watched from the crowd stands as Yohei, a clanless nobody, carved his way through the crowd of competitors, defeating even the future Third Hogokage in the process and the ferocious Yasha Okami. Seeing that geezer getting dusted gave the Hyuuga unparalleled pleasure. He didn't deserve the popularity he got within the circles of Hoshigakure, nor Ayato's admiration, who looked up to him as a father figure.

"I was worried you'd be back in old habits since I haven't heard from you for a while." He pulled a bang of his golden hair back. "Would you be interested in a training session? Kind of eager to test my metal against Hoshi's cowboy." Toneris grip on his sword changed from casual to tense as he waited on a response.

"It's Hoshi's samurai." He corrected sternly. His left hand is in his pocket. So that's why Ayato's brother was here for. The Hyuuga lording had squared up towards him.
Looking for a sparring session, probably trying to one up Yohei, thinking he was no longer the man he used to be. And that would be his fatal mistake.

Deep down, the Nova felt relief; sparring was the spice of training. Yohei had accepted his request and didn't waste any time with words or elaborate speeches about their differences in power. He got right down to business.

Yohei's left hand is inside his pocket, mimicking a gun. It was to put his newfound powers to use, and there was no better place than Toneri's fucking face. That guy thought shinobi life was all jokes and games, but perhaps he'd reconsider when he'd wake up tomorrow with a hole in his skull.

The bullet pierced through Yohei's pocket travels towards Toneri 10 meters away. Since Toneri didn't have the Byakugan active, and with Yohei's hand hidden in the bag, Toneri would only see the bullet after it had taken flight. The target was Toneri's shoulder so that the damage wouldn't be lethal. But hopefully enough to take his sword arm away.

The Golden Hyuuga's face changed from a smile to panic when he noticed the projectile taking flight, aiming at his upper body. It moved at an extremely high speed, so much that he barely had any time to react; perhaps it was time to activate an enhancer for extra speed.

Or a sidestep.

Toneri Hyuuga let go of the hilt of his sword. He pivoted with his right foot on the outside, the rest of his body following behind. The bullet passed by him and to his left. It continued to travel forth, where it would eventually dissipate upon reaching its maximum range.

The circular area in the water gardens was 20 meters in radius, with Toneri at the center and Yohei 10 meters away from him. It was surrounded by greenery, a thick tree wall, 20 meters tall.

"No handseals, the sneaky bastard," Toneri noted to himself about Yohei's earlier attempt to snipe him. Challenge had been accepted, or so it seemed. If there were more of those coming, he couldn't wait to find out. Yohei was not the only one with a quick trigger finger. "I will make a point by beating you in your game," Toneri thought and activated Hyuugas valor. He felt the veins of his right arm bulging, still, at his waist, he extended it quick, and a vacuum palm took flight, kicking up dust from the ground as it traveled towards the samurai, aiming to hit him in the diaphragm and knock the wind out of him.

The sparring had already begun, and no blades had been unsheathed. The battle is at the range, at least for now.

In an exciting turn of events, it seemed that Toneri had underestimated the old dog a bit which appeared to have a hand to play. Toneri could have moved a few meters backward, but that would mean he'd have to drop his vacuum palm so that he wouldn't change his actions. But would de-activate Hyuuga's Valor after firing the projectile.

"Smart." He muttered under his breath. "That's how I would do it too." When someone else uses a technique you know, it's not hard to deconstruct its usage in combat and figure out what it was. When the ground tidal of Earth Shaker hit Toneri, there was no sensation of pain but a feeling of vertigo and then a sensation similar to being submerged underwater. Speed. That was always Toneri's primary combat trait, his reserves matched those of ninjutsu users, but the golden Hyuuga lacked that talent, focusing on Fuinjutsu instead. Perhaps he'd use it today, bound to figure it out by the next sequence.

Mid-air, Toneri would do a flip and then focus chakra on his feet, gluing them on a pillar that once made the rooftop of the Water Gardens. A now-alone reminder of a long-gone era.

The world was upside down for Toneri, who activated his Byakugan 360 view. He watched as Vacuum Palm hit Yohei in the chest, and its power would decrease by a method known among the experienced weaponry users. If Vacuum Palm didn't go through, and that was one big if, then the samurai would receive its secondary effect. A knockback of 10 meters, sending him flying to the air, his feet kicking underneath him, halting any attempts of subsequent strikes and replacing them with a slam on the tree wall.

The wood shattering exploded on the battlefield, as loud as a bomb. The veins flexed underneath the Golden Hyuuga's eyes as he watched the unfolding events. With the technique of the monks from the wolf country, somehow Yohei managed to cast it without handseals, even though it was written in their scrolls such a thing would be an impossibility. He would take note of that in the future.

The samurai now had the Hyuuga's interest more than ever. But when he thought that was the card, Yohei would play against him this round because he would nullify the damage done to him. The samurai showed he had another trick up his sleeve. The Nova never rose to his feet after the crash. Instead, he remained seated and began meditating. Or so show it would appear to the naked eye but not the White of the Byakugan. A lineage as old time.

The Green cloak of chakra that had begun to surround Yohei gave away his nature chakra gathering. Toneri was not a practitioner of the art, as he had little use. However, his older brother did, and Ayato kept no secrets from his family. Especially a household as tight-knit as theirs. He had also heard the principle his brother lived by half a thousand times. If you could do good things for other people, it was your moral responsibility to do those things.

Toneri held no such romantic notions. But he had to focus on the sparring match. For a moment, he thought of going after Yohei while he gathered chakra, but at the same time, he would have to do so while rebuffed. Perhaps stalling was the way to go for now.

"Suffering from back? Comes with old age I suppose"
