The Nova Exams: Fu vs Enishi

The day had finally come. Today was the beginning of the Nova Tournament, an opportunity for the most battle hardened and strategic shinobi to engage in fierce, competitive battle in front of their entire village. Although the contestants each had their own reason for participating, the end goal was common- to obtain a white cloak and to be forever immortalized by ascending into the ranks Hoshigakure’s most prestigious group of shinobi, the Nova corp.

The tournament bracket was now set, and the matchups finalized. For the first round, each contestant would simultaneously engage in one-on-one combat across multiple arenas- the winners advancing to the next round. Fu’s match would take place in arena number five, against Chuunin, Enishi Kurosawa, also known as, “The Wraith”. Considering Fu’s short tenure in Hoshigakure, she was not familiar with Enishi, but that didn’t matter much to her. Following the recently attempted attack on the village, she had vowed to herself that she would train harder and fight with every ounce of strength in her body to prove to herself, and her village, what she was capable of- regardless of who her opponent was. Now that the time had come, this was Fu’s chance to show her new village that she belonged there and was not just an outsider. She was also eager to prove to Ayato that his decision to let her join his village, would not be in vain. Regardless of the outcome, she was determined to put on a show.

Crowds of villagers and shinobi alike were now beginning to descend upon the five different arenas with eagerness and glee, in anticipation to see the best of the best compete. In the stands on the Eastern side of the arena, beyond the 15M wall that divided the combat zone from the audience, an anomaly would occur. A large brown bear, walking on his hind legs like a human, would begin making his way through the rambunctious crowd to take a seat nearest the arena’s East entrance. The bear placed a small electric radio on the wall and then took a seat, causing the bench underneath him to groan with agony from the immense weight now being exerted onto it. The scene would cause the crowd to quiet as they all staired in disbelief at the woodland monster who was now raising his right paw, and with a single, long claw, would press the play button on the radio.


Music erupted from the radio, flooding the stadium, and causing the crowd to near the edges of their seats in anticipation of what was to come. The scorching Sun hung high above the East side of the arena, and below Archie, was a pitch-dark tunnel that represented the entrance of the final contestant. A few moments passed after the music started and then a figure would break through the threshold of the dark tunnel and into the scarce light that struggled to penetrate the forest’ canopy.

Fu passed through the 10 meters of forest that surrounded the perimeter of the arena and as she broke through the tree line, the Sun’s light would illuminate her. A girl emerged, standing at 157cm tall with short, light blue colored hair and a sun kissed, tan complexion. She was wearing tight, black leggings and a purple, Hoshigakure colored cloak over a black, fitted top that concealed her arsenal of weapons and items. Fu left her eccentric personality at home today and now wore a look of fierce determination. Now out in the open, she would continue to proceed forward, now taking in her surroundings and finally her opponent. She would travel until she too was 7.5 meters from the center of the arena, putting exactly 15 meters of space between Enishi and her.  Now that both participants have arrived, Archie would kill the music from the radio and another blanket of silence would fall over the stadium as the crowd eagerly waited for the match to begin.

Fu adjusted her shoulders causing the purple cloak to fall to the floor revealing two katanas, one strapped to her back and the other to her left hip. “I don’t believe we have met, my name is Fu.” She would say, in a controlled, but polite manner. A smile now crept across her face. It was not an ordinary smile one might wear on their birthday or on a special occasion. No- it was the smile that only those who truly lived to fight could produce- those who only found true happiness and purpose during the heat of battle with everything on the line. “What do you say, shall we both surpass our limits? Right here, right now?”

As Enishi responded, Fu’s battle spirit stirred and swelled within. Any nerves that she had felt up until this moment had now been whisked away and she was teeming with excitement in anticipation of the imminent battle that was to ensue. Fu had amassed an arsenal of new abilities that she had not gotten the chance to display during the Chuunin exams nor the battle she had recently participated in. This was the perfect opportunity for her to test her abilities out, but before she would, she would need to determine that Enishi was worthy of battling Fu at her best. At this level of competition, it was customary for opponents to exchange a glimpse of their power to each other to ensure that both opponents were of equal caliber to avoid anyone getting in over their heads. Enishi’s sudden grin was the signal to Fu that he had accepted her challenge to rise to the occasion- both Hoshigakure shinobi agreeing to not hold back due to what was at stake.
 
The time for talking was over. At the conclusion of Enishi’s final inquiry, Fu’s right eye would alter into something legendary, taking on a violet hue with a ripple pattern. At the same time her eye transformed, a semi-translucent cloak would envelop Fu’s entire body, extending 1 inch from her in every direction. As the cloak encased her, Fu would display to Enishi, along with those in attendance, her power. Her chakra would present itself as an image of a demon’s head, which was comprised of the same colors as her cloak and floated above her head, bearing down on her opponent, illustrating to him, her killer intent.  
 
“I am fear.” Fu would say in response to his question, her primal instincts ready to react and her purple eye watching her opponent carefully for any indication of movement or response to her display of power.

The small droplet of sweat that formed on Enishi’s face in response to her display of power did not escape her keen gaze. Currently, the emotion of disappointment was beginning to intrude at the idea that her opponent was not strong enough to be taken seriously. This feeling was soon relinquished when Enish would respond to her by producing his own display of power- expelling his chakra in the image of a mighty storm and taking on an aura of ocean blue surrounding him. The storm then morphed into the image of a powerful hawk, with outstretched wings and a ferocious demeanor- now holdings its own against Fu’s demon head- declaring that both opponents were of equal caliber.  Fu was pleased. A worthy opponent to test her limits against was before her and he had shown her that he had no intentions of backing down. At the conclusion of his final words, Fu would respond, “Prepare yourself, here I come!”
 
Now that the battle was official on, Fu would decide to offer Enishi something that would allow Fu to gauge her opponent. There was no fun in starting the match off by reducing the entire stadium and its’ audience to rubble and ash. Instead, her initiating action to the battle beginning would be one that was subtle, but effective. In fact, most of the audience would most likely not acknowledge it, but those with keen eyesight, and her opponent, sure would. With her eyes locked on her target, Fu’s left hand, which had been resting by her side up until this point, would simply turn over so that her palm was facing her opponent and then a black, metallic rod would generate from the center of her palm and fire once it had grown 5 inches in length. The receiver would be targeted directly at Enishi’s chest and would travel a direct line towards its destination until it potentially arrived at, and then into, his chest.

Fu’s opponent was not one to sit and take a receiver to the chest. He was present and aware of the minute details that could cost him the battle, therefor, he correctly assessed the presence of the hostile projectile fired at him and would respond by taking a sidestep to his left- out of the projectiles intended path. This counter measure did not come as a surprise to Fu but was expected. She did not wholly believe that she could truly end the battle with such an obvious and straight forward attack. The idea was to get her opponent moving and reacting to her, creating openings and opportunities for the kunoichi to follow up with and capitalize on- as well as to gather more information on her opponent.

Fu’s eyes, not focused on her projectile’s path, but on her opponent, would capture everything as if it were in slow motion. Her Rinnegan possessed all the abilities of her Mangekyou Sharingan, granting her extreme clarity of movement- essentially precognition. As Enishi side-stepped, the summoning of three kunai would not escape her gaze, and in response to his summoning of equipment, Fu would immediately decide to activate her Sage Mode. Now that her abilities were invigorated, Fu would respond to the potential threat with a repulsive, yet offensive, technique of her own.

At the moment Enishi would release his three kunai in unison, a blast of pure, and invisible, concussive force would radiate from Fu in all directions without any visible indication of its activation. The speed and raw power of the force would encroach on Enishi, launching his released kunai back towards him once they would come into contact with the force, and if he did not find a way to evade the sudden response, he too would find himself caught up in the force and now being pushed backwards towards the perimeter of the arena. The single blast of force would travel until it's maximum range, destroying anything that was not strong enough to withstand the blast, and moving the remnants of said affected things towards the perimeter of the arena, and away from Fu.

Due to Shinra Tensei being a singular blast of energy, it did not require Fu's undivided attention to retain the jutsu. Instead, she would observe how her opponent would react and then would react accordingly herself. Fu's opponent picked up on the subtle details of her technique which affected the battlefield's environment, indicating to her opponent that something nasty was heading straight towards him, despite his inability to see it.
 
Enishi would activate a technique that would cover his body, similar to her own Yata Mirror, indicating to Fu that he was utilizing a type of jutsu or armor to brace himself for the impact of her technique. Then, with her Rinnegan, she would pick up on the pre-cognitive motions of his hands- signaling to Fu that Enishi was planning to form hand seals as they moved into position. As Enishi's hands came together to form his first hand seal, so would Fu's, as she performed a string of 12 hand seals in unison with her opponent, both completing their hand seals at the same time due to the slight advantage in speed that she had over him. Upon completing her final hand seal, the ground would rumble in response to the ground beneath her feet ripping apart and a large wooden head would begin emerging underneath her, along with a plethora of wooden fingertips also breaking the earth’s surface directly behind the 10-diameter head she was now standing at the center of as it rose from the ground.  
 
At the same time her golem would begin rising from the earth, Fu would pick up on a point of chakra that had now begin to form behind her, 3.1M away, within her 5M passive chakra sensory. A swamp would begin to form from said point, but it would not be strong enough to hinder her golem's creation and would simply form around the giant like water as it grew and spread according to its user. Fu decided to neglect turning her attention to the sudden spawning behind her, and instead, insisted on focusing on her opponent as she rose above the ground level, and out of harm’s way of the swamp behind her, keeping a close eye on her opponent.
 
The golem proceeded to rise from its initial spawning point and after it had risen 5M, five smaller heads that were positioned on the front of the main head would emerge from the mud and dirt. Upon the smaller heads surfacing, Fu would activate one of her wooden golems mechanics, and the smaller, middle head (third), would open its mouth and launch a beam of pure wind chakra towards Enishi. Following the initial blast of wind chakra, the wooden golem would then proceed to grow from its original spawning point, raising Fu even higher into the air and the cluster of the golem’s arms surfacing from the mud/ground behind the head.
